Jedi Temple training room

Master Angulendaara had stepped away to escort someone to the Medbay. One of the students took a training lightsaber directly to the face. Broke his nose; blood gushing out and everything.

One's misfortune was another's opportunity.

Nilah was temporarily forbidden from using any kind of lightsaber after the incident. She accidently cut off two of her own head-tendrils with a fully-powered lightsaber. Training with real lightsabers was something she wasn't supposed to do unsupervised. She wasn't ready. Pfft, bantha fodder. With Instructor Angulendarra currently indisposed, who was going to stop her from picking up a lightsaber?

The blue blade of her training saber crashed into one of the training dummies. She spun to parry another droid's attack, then counterrattacked with a slice to the second droid's shoulder. She was forced to spar with the bots, the other students refusing to give her the time of day. Partly because they didn't want to get in trouble, partly because they were sick of her competitiveness and snide remarks.

Nilah kept hacking away at the droids. The air recyclers clicked and hummed as they struggled to filter the scent of sweat and burning ozone.

Training alone wasn't the most enjoyable of tasks, but nevertheless it was something that Aedric made an effort to regularly do. He hoped to impress a master enough for them to take his under their wing, and for that he'd have to train. A small frown spread across Aedrics face as he heard the familiar sound of training saber connecting with a droid. More often that not Aedric was able to use this training facility without ever being bothered, but for once somebody had beaten him to the punch.

After a few moments of deliberation, he eventually approached the room, and watched the girl spar with the droids for a few moments.

"You should train with me instead, those droids get predictable quickly." He rose his voice, strolling over towards her as he grabbed his own training saber. He came to a halt a few feet behind the droids, idly fiddling with the hilt, waiting for her to acknowledge his arrival.

Nilah didn't acknowledge the boy's arrival immediately. Nobody was going to disturb her training. But, his words of droid predictability rang true. She ducked to avoid a droid's attack, then did a sweeping slash across all three of the droids she was sparring with. With an extended magenta hand, she Force pushed them away; they crashed on the ground in front of the boy's feet.

Nilah righted herself and the blue blade of her training saber disignited with a hiss. She put a hand on her hip and acknowledged the boy's presence for the first time.

Amber eyes quickly scanned, sizing him up. "Oh, yeah? What makes you think you're not just as predictable?"

In contrast to her designiting her saber, he actually ignited his, a similarly coloured blue blade appearing from the hilt. He had taken her acknowledgement as her basically accepting the training offer, as well as the dismissal of the droids infant of her.

"Because I'm actually am capable of making choices beyond pre-coded decisions?"

He stepped forward and passed the discarded droids, coming to a halt just a few feet infront of her. Despite only being an inch taller, he made a show of looking down as he sized her up.

"Besides, I just think it'll be fun for me two." He shrugged.

"Because I'm actually am capable of making choices beyond pre-coded decisions?"
"I won't hold my breath," she said, laughing.

Nilah ignited her training lightsaber in response. She thumbed over the power dial, raising the intensity of the plasma's heat. It wasn't fully-powered and nowhere near lethal, but it was strong enough to burn a layer of tissue or leave a nasty bruise.

"Think you can handle a little more power?"

Nilah brought her lightsaber up in both hands, entering Ataru's opening stance. She was still learning the basics, but worry wasn't a word in her vocabulary.

Time to see what Mr. Choices was capable of.

Aedric's thumb passed over his own power dial, raising the intensity of his saber to match hers.

"Reckon so." He shrugged, watching as she settled into a stance. He recognised the form somewhat, as he initially had been interested in learning that very form, however he had simply not blended well with it.

As he settled into his own stance, it vaguely resembled Form V, specifically the Djem So variant.
"Whenever you're ready." He muttered, beginning to stalk forwards, and circle off to her left, waiting for his moment to strike.

The boy didn't hesitate. That was good. Perhaps she finally found a formidable opponent. Let's hope Mr. Choices didn't disappoint.

She watched, recognizing the boy's stance as Djem So; her constant studying of the various lightsaber forms paying off. The fighting style was more advanced than what she faced among the other neophytes. She knew it was defensive and relied on counterattacks. Nilah would need to strike fast and true, all while avoiding leaving herself open. No easy task.

"Ready."

Nilah ignited her lightsaber and synchronically performed a spinning slash. It was a simple move, easily defended against, but she just wanted to test the boy and see what he would do.

As soon as she said ready, his grip on the saber tightened and he began to carefully observe any movements. The counter-fighter style of Djem So wasn't natural to him, and it certainly was a test of his patience to not go on the offence, however, he'd learned to enjoy mentally applying himself more to a fight, rather than simply following his instincts.

As she began his her spinning attack, he stepped forward, intending to meet the blow early before the spin could generate a huge amount of momentum, and parry it with some force. He swung his blade up to meet hers, before going to slash his blade downwards immediately afterwards towards her shoulder.

Nilah planted her feet in hard, matching the strength of Mr. Choices with her blade so she wasn't sent off balance. He was surprisingly smart — momentum was king in combat, it was Djem So's greatest strength. It was also one of Ataru's greatest weaknesses. Form IV relied on momentum to dictate the pace of a fight. The practitioner's own kinetic energy could be used against them, sending them off balance and creating an opening to strike.

Predictable, though. Like a droid. Nilah anticipated a counterattack and met his lightsaber blade with appropriate speed. She attempted to use her strength to push his blade straight down and follow up with an elbow to the boy's chest before hopping away.

The magenta padawan smiled, knowing Mr. Choices could finally be the adversary she'd been waiting for.

Aedric began to back pedal the moment he felt her parry his counter attack, correctly guessing that her counter would follow very quickly afterwards. How very predictable of her. What wasn't so predictable was the choice of weapon, namely her elbow. He'd expected a stab, or another spin, which was why he had backpedaled so quickly.

The distance that had been created between them, as they had both decided to back away, unsettled Aedric, who would have much preferred to continue to fight at a close distance.

He made no further attack, inviting her to once again go on the offensive, as he simply began to circle off to her left side.
