OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Submit a modular personal shield.
  • Image Source: By Jamie Pyne.
  • Canon Link: /
  • Restricted Missions: /
  • Primary Source: /
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: G.E.A.R.
  • Model: GE-MES
  • Affiliation: Didact Defense Solutions
  • Modularity: Different modules can be installed to swap out the ways the shield works.
  • Production: Mass-Produced.
  • Material: Agrinium, duraplast, other personal shield parts.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Modularity: The personal shield can be modified with different modules to change its effectiveness against various damage sources. It can hold three module, which confers a resistance rating of average. It is also possible to overcharge a module to increase its effectiveness, but that would block the usage of the other modules. At its apex one can overcharge one module to increase the resistance to Very High, which blocks the usage of the other two slots. One rating increase coincides with one module being blocked.
ENVO: Resistance against environmental damage. Heat, radiation, acid, static discharge, things like that.
  • EXO: Resistance against exotic types of damage. Sonic, disruptors and similar things.
  • COM: Resistance against conventional combat damage. Plasma, EMP/ion, slugs.
  • DEMO: Resistance against explosive and blunt trauma. Kinetic, particle beam, et cetera.
  • MONK: Resistance against space monks. Lightsabers.

[*]Sub-modules: The personal shield has an additional augmentation slot, which can be used to enhance or change the way the shield works.
  • LEECH: This sub-module is most effective with the COM and MONK modules. A portion of the plasma, lightsabers damage is converted back into the energy of the shield.
  • PROJECT: This sub-module allows the shield to be pushed outwards and be projected across a small area. On the flip-side this makes the shield less effective and cuts its operation time in half.
  • REFLECT: This sub-module shifts the polarity of the shield and ensures that it will bounce back any plasma bolts. It can only do that for a short duration, before it burns out though.
  • SHOCK: This sub-module adds a shock to the shield. Those who try to touch the one carrying the shield will be shocked for their trouble. After four shocks the entire shield is drained and will need time to recharge though.

Strengths:
  • [MODULAR] - Allows for increased flexibility on the battlefield and in strategic operations.
  • [EFFECTIVE] - Rather than spreading its effectiveness around, this shield can be highly specialized and tailored towards the needs of the soldier.
  • [SIMPLE] - Plug'N'Play, you push the modules in and it just works.
Weaknesses:
  • [DELAY] - It can take up to a minute, before the shields are recharged and ready to function when you switch modules. This includes switching different sub-modules to change the property of the shield. So, while it is easy to swap in the heat of battle, it is very risky to do so if you aren't clear.
  • [RECHARGE] - Once the shield hits 0% and begins recharging, it completely stops shielding its wearer, until its at 100% again.
  • [COMBOS] - Some combinations are more useful than others. Just shoving in modules doesn't tend to work and can lead to disaster.
DESCRIPTION
Didact Defense Solutions operates in a lot of different environments and the missions themselves are equally varied. A standard personal shield would not always be effective for every job, which is why DDS contracted G.E.A.R. to create something... new for them. There were a handful objectives drawn up with this design- modularity was chief among them and ease of use was a second important marker. Effectiveness a third, it couldn't be less effective than the average personal shields currently on the market and, in fact, needed to be better if that was possible.

The addition of sub-modules to change the way the shields behave was done with that in mind.

This would increase the surprise-factor Didact possessed in the field, because their tactics could change within the span of a minute. This would presumably force anyone they face to also change the way they operate against them.
