STRENGTHS- Reactive Shield Hardener
Most shield systems overlap different shield technologies - chiefly deflector & ray shields. Shields give out when one shield system is overwhelmed by sheer volume of fire, or by exposure to energy types the system is weak against. The RShrD Reactive Shield Hardener is designed to bolster all common shield types with its molecular shield hardening technology. When a specific damage type is consistently hitting against a shield system, the RShrD kicks in to bolster that specific shield - effectively hardening it, and making it more resilient to that consistent type of damage. Its storage capacitors, when full, begin charging secondary shield systems (secondary being those not currently receiving damage). - Compatible
The RShrD is designed to be compatible with any shield system, regardless of the type of shield technology being used or the manufacturer. It can also support the use of advanced shield systems, aiding in the ‘miniaturization’ of such systems for starships and ground-based vehicles via its integrator nodes and nano-capacitors. - Scalable
This system is also completely scalable - usable in nearly any size vehicle or starcraft.
WEAKNESSES- Not a Shield Generator
The GDE-RShrD is a shield hardener - not a shield generator. It is a part of a comprehensive shield system, and would not in and of itself replace a full shield array. - Reactive Overload
While there are overload spirals to prevent critical failure, that does not mean the system is invulnerable to system overload. In fact, there are overload triggers that will shut off the system to prevent such catastrophe. While the hardener is engaged, bolstering a specific energy field - should another shield type be triggered by a secondary type of damage, the system’s capacitors can only endure such power spikes for so long before engaging the built-in failsafes and shutting the hardener off. - Vehicle/Starship Only
The Reactive Hardener System is not for use in personal shield systems, or armor suits. It is far too bulky and intricate, requiring the infrastructure present within vehicles and starships.
DESCRIPTIONWith the presence of massed, devastating quantities of weapon systems in modern starships and ground vehicles; shield systems are hard pressed to keep up. Yet in an age where weapons are designed to overload such shield arrays, the logical approach is not to add more shielding - but to enhance what shielding you already have.
The GDE-RShrD is purpose-built to enhance existing shield arrays, and work in tandem with shield systems previously too advanced for smaller craft (Such as the GDE-RS5 Molecular Reactive Shield Array). While it will not change the very nature of the pre-existing shield system, it will make it easier to deploy and use in any sized craft - and overall increase the survivability of the host craft. The hardener system is designed to increase the modulation frequency of the shield currently weathering the damage, and shunt the incoming damage into raw power to recharge secondary shield systems - as well as build up a capacitor reserve for recharging the damaged system once a reprieve is granted.
