Corey's OOC
And where were the spiders
Intent: To create the first in a new line of asteroid mining droid units for Resoruce Chasing and Transit (Image is reminiscent of a Reaper from ME, but the size does not add up, and the whole unit can fold into itself, to appear as an oversized cargo container that can be used on real-world 18-wheeled rigs, trains, and starships, or the Chaos equivalent of this unit)
Development Thread: Will provide if needed
Manufacturer: Resource Chasing and Transit (With aid from Haor Chall Engineering)
Model: Gatherer
Affiliation: Public Access
Modularity: None
Production: Minor
Material: Alusteel, and supporting standard materials for the weapons and joints
Description: The Gatherer Droid is the first major export from Resource Chasing and Transit (RCT) and is primarily a large space faring droid armed with cutting lasers, a tractor beam and an internal storage system to strip planetoids and asteroids of their base minerals. This system will compress, using heat and a compactor to create small packages of raw material in a 3 by 3 meter cube. These are ejected from the back of the Gatherer and are held nearby using a stabilizing tractor beam that works even when the unit is folded into 'transit mode.' Before the unit can fold into transit mode, it must eject all the ore/metal that it harvests. The lasers are surplus Rothana Heavy Engineering heavy turbolasers that are toned down for cutting through heavy metals and rock but are able to be accurately used to not damage any precious minerals, or resources found underneath rock layers.
Advanced droid brains are able to use a variety of planet scanning tools to scan the planetoids and asteroids to decipher standard rock and precious resources. As these are intended to be used remotely, either in groups or as a single unit in deep space, to cut costs, life sign sensors were not installed into all units and are instead installed to order for Gatherer’s being used around trade lines, or near areas that sapients are expected.
Heavy Alusteel plating allows for the Gatherer to remain light weight enough for storage aboard large cargo vessels, but strong enough to survive impacts from asteroids, and physical shrapnel. These units do have four legs that are used to either grab small asteroids, or balance themselves on larger asteroids.
Classification: Second/Fifth
Weight: 2500 kg to 9000 kg
Height: Array of sizes from 24 meters long, (6 meters from dorsal to ventral and 5 meters side-to-side)
Movement: Quadrupedal and thrusters
Armaments: Repulsors and two military surplus blaster cannons
Misc. Equipment: Planetary scanners, tractor beams for resource collection (focusing on pulling in fragments and pieces of raw precious metal of 500kg or less), hyperspace signal beacon (for collection when job is done/load is full)
Hyperdrive Rating: Only Sublight
Armaments:
Cargo Capacity: Due to the typically Zero-G deployment of this unit, the maximum internal storage for ore/resources is 4m by 4m that is condensed into a 3mx3m cube
Sublight Speed and Maneuverability: 4
