Vera did her best to return the hug, even though her little arms could barely manage to wrap around him. She wanted to be strong like her dad though, so she squeezed back and looked at him with another brave smile. She was ready for this mission and it was going to be an awesome time together. Maybe they'd get to save the Hill people from impending doom or help some prince or princess complete their life's most important task.

Her imagination was running wild.

"Mhmm, so you can bully her with it." Vera shot him another familiar grin, though this one came straight from her father. She then started walking again, and soon enough, they'd find a passage between the hills where a stone arch had been built. There was writing in a language they hadn't ever seen before, and on a walkway high up, several pale-blue figures moved. They were dressed in simple clothes made of materials scavenged in the wild.

They seemed and felt suspicious and looked down at the two approaching Jedi.

"They don't seem nice..." Vera said, a little oblivious to why people would be wary of them.

"Many people will look at us weirdly. We're strangers, after all."

Kahlil smiled, glancing again down to Vera before looking ahead to the Hill People that came into view. He'd step forward first, raising a hand in a small kind of wave. "We don't mean to alarm anyone by our arrival. Long ago a Jedi of our order came here, and we're very curious as to what sort of help they provided, if there are any records or such that might remain." Friend first, then they could search some more on what exactly Valery had done here.

And yes, find something to tease her about.

"Then we'll just have to say hi and be nice!"

Vera dumbed it down a lot, but luckily her simple look on it worked with the Hill People. They weren't inherently hostile, and seeing the Jedi Master wave had them all calm down a little. Especially when they realized the other was just a child — it was unlikely that they'd be here to cause trouble.

"A Jedi, you say?" An older Galacian asked after emerging from the other side of the stone archway. He looked at Kahlil and offered the Jedi Master a polite smile.

"We haven't been visited by one in a very, very long time. But it seems the past has caught up, finally." He looked at Vera now, his head tilting just a little bit.

"My mom was here long ago!"

He chuckled and looked up at her father, "Would you like to join us inside our village? I can show you more about this woman and her people who visited and protected us."

Kahlil_Div2.png

Visited and protected? Kahlil nodded, smiling just a little as he glanced to Vera and her excitement. There was certainly a tale to be heard if they remembered her after all this time. Or the Hill People just lived a really long time. Hard to say.

"Lead on, then. We are very curious about this woman."

"I'll first show you what we built to honor what she did for our people. It's why we will never forget," the man explained as he escorted the two Nobles into town. It was clearly quite rare for the Hill People to get visitors, judging by just how many stopped what they were doing to look at their visitors, and some even followed after them.

Especially the children, who were amazed to see people from another world out here. They had learned about the Galaxy in school, of course, but this was their first exposure to it.

In the center of town, along a row of statues of Hill People of importance, stood another and this one was clearly meant to represent Valery. Though...her face looked a little bit off, and they had made her butt look even bigger.

Vera was staring at it.

"Daddy? Did mommy's butt get smaller or did they make it really big?" She giggled and pulled off her cute little pink backpack, to remove a small camera. She offered it to her dad if he wanted to take a picture.

But as she did, something fluffy could be seen shifting around in her backpack. Fuzzy was hiding away underneath some snackies and ration bars.

"I would say they took some.. Creative liberties."

He was trying not to laugh at this. It was.. Fascinating that her butt was what they decided to memorialize so drastically. That was certainly going to be something she'd be getting made fun of later. He glanced down to Vera, raising a brow at the camera. Then shrugged and picked it up to take a quick snap. It'd be at least funny to have something to show her.

"So, what did she do?"

"Hmm, we should show mom!" Vera nodded and let her dad take a picture, both so they could show mom, and to remember it themselves. It was perhaps uncommon for Jedi, but Vera enjoyed bringing along her little camera. She'd take pictures of the things she saw so she'd never forget, and once she had a Master of her own, she'd be able to come home and let her parents see what kind of adventures she's had. That sounded nice to her.

Today it meant an oversized butt of her mother, and tomorrow it might be a volcano exploding!

"This statue is of Jedi Master Noble, and thousands of years ago, she came to this very village with a group of her Jedi. They set up defenses and held off an incredible wave of Imperial and Sith forces to buy the Republic time to send reinforcements. It was a costly battle, but it's why this village and our people survived."

Vera beamed a bright smile and looked up at her dad, "That's so cool, huh?!" She asked with a grin, but it was at that very moment, that she noticed Fuzzy slowly and sneakily reaching for Kahlil's pack with food rations.

Uh-oh, he wants snackies.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil just took out a snack for Fuzzy to munch on, not even sparing a glance their way. Instead he was more listening to the story. She had quite the impression here, didn't she? It brought a chuckle before he glanced to Vera. She seemed to be loving this just as much. Good.

"That sounds like Valery, yes. We should have her come back here soon. It'd be good for her to see the results of her actions I think."

Vera smiled warmly when her father offered one of his snacks to Fuzzy. The little racyon loved it and quietly munched on it after climbing back into Vera's bright pink backpack. With her buddy happy, she listened to the story about her mom, and smiled proudly.

"That's my mom!" She declared and the villager seemed to blink in surprise.

"...well, if she is still around, it would be an honor to reveive her and her family here together." He had caught on now, and dipped his head deeply to show respect.

"If there is anything we can do to help you on your journey here, please do ask." He continued and Vera looked up at her father. Maybe dad had questions of his own, but they could probably also point them in the right direction!

"Left behind?" The man hummed in thought for a moment, then nodded. "She spent a considerable amount of time in the city after defending our village. If she left anything behind, that is where you should go." The man then smiled when Kahlil mentioned the local cuisine, and he certainly noticed the little bounce in Vera's step.

A young one with a love for food, hm?

"We have some food we could offer for your journey? We'll wrap it up and you can take it with you, unless you'd like to stay here longer, of course."

He looked at Kahlil and dipped his head, "Your partner has been very important to our people, so please, always consider yourself and your family welcome here."

"Yay! We get to have snackies, dad!" Vera then exclaimed with a grin.

"Very well," the man said with a smile when he noticed just how excited Vera was. The young Noble was pretty much universally adorable, and the people here seemed to love her energy. So it was their pleasure to offer them some food, and soon enough, they returned with some snacks that were incredibly sweet but still didn't make you feel like your teeth would fall out.

Vera loved the wrap-like little snacks.

"Yumm!" she called out as she munched on hers, and offered a piece to Fuzzy too.

"We packed some as well for the journey."

Vera smiled then looked up at her dad, "Mom was only here for a short time to defend them. Then she left for the city, so we should go there next." she nodded and the Hill people seemed a little more cautious.

"Just be careful if you go. The tribes have often been very adversarial, and they might not be kind at first."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"We'll be fine. Padawan Vera here is quite skilled."

Kahlil offered one last kind smile as he packed away the snacks then turned to lead them both towards the city. They could enjoy the snacks on the way, that much was certain. Only a bit away from the town he'd turn to glance down towards his daughter, idly chewing a little.

"What do you think we'll find?"

Vera adjusted the straps of her little backpack after storing away her snacks, and started to walk towards the city with a litte skip in her step. She was clearly loving her time out here, being a Jedi and discovering new things about mom. A Jedi from long ago, that much she knew, but the more she learned out here, the cooler her parents became to her.

Next time, she was going to want to learn more about her dad too. Her hero.

"Mom stayed here for a long time, and she left some stuff here! She wrote reports but I saw her writing something late at night, too! A diary," she said with a giggle before looking at Fuzzy on her shoulder. "What do you think, Fuzzy?"

Fuzzy stared at her and blinked, but Vera just stared back, blinked herself then smiled.

"He agrees with me." She nodded and looked up at her father. "Maybe we'll find something about mom's old friends. I think she would like that! Even if you tease her," she giggled again and looked ahead. They were getting close to the city, but she was feeling some tension in the Force because of it.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"It'd be nice to see what happened to her old friends, I imagine. The Jedi of old were very much against the idea of attachment, so I'm not actually sure how much she knew about them or their fates." Sometimes a memory to look back on made it that much more painful. He smiled none the less, gently patting the top of Vera's head. She saw the good in that idea regardless, and he couldn't say he didn't either.

"Is there a place that pulls to you the most? Something you've seen?"

"No attachments?" Vera blinked and looked at her father. In the past, she wouldn't have really understood, but now she did. Her Mom and Dad both loved each other very much, and they loved her and Aris and the triplets. That was not allowed before Mom woke up all those years ago?

"Was that hard? For you and Mom when you met?" Vera asked curiously, unaware of how much Valery had needed that kind of connection in her life. "It's not bad that we love each other, right daddy?" She smiled at him as he patted her head and Fuzzy popped out to gently rub his head into the crook of her neck. Likely because he felt she needed it just a little.

"There!" Vera then called out, as she pointed to a large spire-shaped building up ahead. "That's the city and I feel where to go! But... there are people coming. They feel angry."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"No, not really. She needed time to adjust, but she took that time and well.. I don't think she's ever been happier than she is now." Then he paused. In a way, there was no definitive answer to her question.

"It can be. Emotions like love are important for a Jedi to have less they remain apathetic, but taken too far and it's a quick path to the Dark Side. It's important to not let your emotions control you, but not to stuff them away." He glanced ahead next, narrowed his eyes for a moment. People were angry? At them, perhaps?

"Stay close."

"She has never been happier," Vera said with a big nod before the topic shifted to something she was more curious about. Of course, she had learned the Code already but it would take time for her to understand it as well as the more experienced Jedi did. That's why she asked.

"It's about balance!" Vera chimed in. "It sounds difficult. If you or mom, or my siblings are in danger, I feel..." she paused and frowned a little. "It makes me want to help really badly." She smiled up at her father, but the increase in tension in the Force didn't escape her either.

Soon enough, the two Jedi would feel them close, so it wasn't too big of a surprise when pale-blue people appeared, dressed in fancier clothes than the hill people, and with modern blasters aimed at both Kahlil and Vera. The young Noble, however, did not seem to be afraid at all and stood with her father.

"What is your business here?" the leader of the group, a middle-aged woman, asked.

"Zarel? I don't think they're them. Look at their skin... they're not from here."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"I feel the same way, little star."

He smiled briefly as he glanced down towards her. Once more patted the top of her head. He wasn't going to go any further into it, though. He knew just how much of a weakness his family was to him. But he wouldn't change that. Ever.

His smile remained even as they were suddenly held at gunpoint, though he did pretty quickly move in between them and Vera. It was commendable that she wasn't scared, but he was still her father. And currently not trying to just break their wrists for pointing blasters at his daughter.

"We are not from here, yes. Just visitors to the planet looking to learn some history. Could you lower your blasters from pointing towards my daughter?"
