OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

GENERAL INFORMATION
• Name: Gairthix
• Designation: Non-Sentient
• Homeworld: Veradune
• Language: Bugles and other deer noises
• Average Lifespan: 200 years
• Estimated Population: Planetary
• Description: Elegant yet lethal, the Gairthix stands above most humanoids but isn’t quite as tall as its ungulate cousin, the arlusk. Rather, its sleek form is made to allow for quick and agile movement through the forested areas where it lives. Despite this relatively small size, the Gairthix is still seen as a dangerous creature due to its antlers which can often be heard faintly crackling with electricity.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
• Breathes: Type 1
• Average height of adults: 1 meter at the shoulder
• Average length of adults: 1.7 meters
• Skin color: Tan
• Hair color: Shades of Brown
• Distinctions: Standing at almost 2 meters tall, the gairthix is an imposing figure for most humanoids, even more so when one’s hair starts to stand on end while in proximity to the electrically charged antlers on its head. However, while the gairthix is known for its electrical antlers, it should be noticed that the most impressive racks are held only by the males, who’s antlers can grow and branch out. A female gairthix only grows a set of single point antlers which often curl around their head in a fashion so curved that it is impossible to use for piercing its foes, although it is still capable of delivering fatal electrical jolts.
Young gairthix spend the first two months learning how to harness their electricity from their mothers, and are covered in speckles which mimic the sunbeams peaking through the canopy in order to allow them to hide in foliage if separated from the herd. After these ten months, their fur will generally darken and they will start to grow their first set of antlers.
• Strengths:
Antlers Capable of holding a lethal electric charge
• Control over amount of energy is used with each usage of their antlers
• Antlers and hooves are capable of piercing and trampling their foes.
• Keen sense of hearing and smell
• Very fast runner

[*]Weaknesses:
• No natural defense. Skin is easy to pierce with most weaponry.
• Electric charge requires several minutes to fully recharge.
• Not very skilled at hiding due to the sound of its antlers
• Actually quite delicious

CULTURE
• Diet: Herbivorous
• Communication: Bugling and deer noises
• Technology level: None
• Religion/Beliefs: Grass tastes good. Shock bad things.
• General behavior: Gairthix usually travel in herds, protecting each other and keeping watches while they graze. If danger is sensed, the gairthix will usually try to bound away, unless it is something that they can easily take on and kill with their antlers. While it takes about five minutes for the gairthix to reach full charge, once it does, its antlers can release bolts of energy with various levels of strength. This allows the gairthix to “taze” multiple medium sized foes, or dump all their energy at once to kill one large creature that might be attempting to attack or eat them. Should the gairthix’s antlers run out of energy with its foe or foes still standing, and the gairthix is unable to run away, it will rely on its more basic weaponry, that being its dagger like hooves and pointed antlers. If pressed, the gairthix will charge at the threat with its head lowered in order to piece it with its antlers. If the predator is too close for the gairthix to charge or properly lower its head, then it will rear up and kick out with its hooves, which are surprisingly capable of stabbing through flesh with their narrow-pointed shape
While they are fairly social creatures, gairthix herds are composed primarily of females, with a relatively low number of breeding males. A male gairthix will only accept males that it has sired into the herd. During the rut season, gairthix will often challenge each other for ownership of the herd, whether it’s a younger gairthix challenging its sire for the right to breed first, or a new gairthix attempting to take over the entire herd, the aggressive nature of this breeding season makes the forests of Veradune dangerous for any strangers that might attempt to enter.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Throughout recorded history, Gairthix have lived on Veradune as a main source of meat for brave hunters who might be crafty enough to make it past the electrical charges of their antlers. Historically, the ancient zorrens did this by using large sheets of wood and leather to absorb the bolts until the creature was out of charge. At that point, they would charge in with spears, and later bows to kill their prey. Over time, hunting evolved and the Zorrens learned that the best way to hunt a gairthix was to shoot it while it was unsuspecting and pick up the body after the herd had fled. To keep up with the demands of food while keeping with their code of ethics for taking the meat of their hunts, Zorrens now keep large herds of gairthix females with a limited number of breeding males. When it is time to harvest, the harvesters will go out and shoot a large number of females which they then take to be butchered while the males can continue to keep up the population. Due to the rut season, gairthix meat is mostly a seasonal food, mostly being eaten around the winter months after which they ca replenish their numbers.

This is a really cool wildlife submission, love the concept. I just have one question before I can pass this along.

Your second weakness is confusing to me. Their electric charge being replenish-able doesn't seem like a weakness to me. Is this an incomplete thought, or did you mean to say something else here? Unless you can explain your reasoning, that may need to be reworded, or another weakness selected to keep this submission balanced.

[member="Zark"] sorry, meant to pose it as they need several minutes to recharge, during which something can run up and eat them. If that's not a big enough weakness, I might be able to find something else

[member="Vulpesen"]

No, that works for me. I figured it was something like that, with that taken care of I think ye are ready for final judgment.
