GENERAL INFORMATION
Fleet Name: Raider Squadron
Classification: Starfighter Squadron
Affiliation: Galactic Alliance
Description: A brand-new starfighter unit, created to help address the manpower problem in the Alliance's fight against the Maw, it employs foreign volunteers, but one of its real strengths is the veterans implanted in the unit to help with training, and bring their experience to the unit. They are a mobile raiding and strike squadron, that is also capable of more conventional methods, using tactics taken from their predecessors and other special forces units to take on their missions with a tenacity generally not seen. A roving unit, they are members of the new 303rd (Foreign Service) Wing. Two flights of Raider Squadron are made up of foreign volunteers from planets occupied by governments hostile to the Alliance. They are also overseen by Starfighter Special Operations, giving them a greater degree of autonomy.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Newly-promoted Captain Mylo Thorne, a member of the famed Revenant Squadron was sitting bored in the ready room, reading through archive holo-articles, when he came across an old special forces manual created by a Pathfinder officer. Enthralled, he read on, interested by the innovative tactics and began to draft his idea for a new starfighter squadron. Sometime after the Battle of Ilum, seeing how key some those tactics were, he brought his draft idea to a panel of Starfighter Command officers. His initial pitch was flat-out rejected. But before he was shown the door, one of the members of the panel told him to work on it.
Mylo took the advice to heart.
A few months later, the final draft was ready, and he went back to Coruscant to go and pitch his idea. It was a hit. And he was given permission to begin recruiting for "Gray" squadron, as it was called to keep the unit under wraps. However soon enough, Major Ari Naldax approached him to attach the unit to the 303rd, a new unit made up of recruits from worlds under occupation. Apprehensive, but also curious, he brought the idea to command, who were interested in the idea and gave it the green light.
To ensure oversight, the unit was put under the watchful eye of Starfighter Special Operations. Recruiting mostly from foreigners recruited to fight for the Alliance, the unit began to train out of Blizzard Base, the facilities being on loan to them by the SIA. After a few successful skirmishes, "Raider" Squadron was given the green light to start combat operations.
