Not that many force users hailing from Csilla become Dark Siders, lesser still are non-denominational. The Chiss prefer an ordered world, a world that has no place for the chaos that the Dark Side holds. Be that as it may, even it has some tasters of the forbidden fruit, persons who hunger for its seductive power. When these people rise; Mountains crumble and nations fall. They become the ultimate powers in the universe. They have their purposes, to spread fear and bloodshed throughout the galaxy.
Gadave's purpose, however, is to dissect them and their ilk.
He started out as a member of the Sith, becoming an Inquisitor, in fact. He was renowned for using his knowledge of Sith alchemy to either create beasts or turn men into them. But throughout his service he always wondered one thing. How can the Sith say they control the force when they do not understand it? For all their knowledge they themselves are being controlled by their primal influences. It was an interesting question, and the answer perhaps was, Gadave thought, that the Sith themselves were shackling themselves with the bounds of ignorance.
And from that came another question, was he himself shackled? He, along with his brethren, had chanted the part of the code, "my chains are broken," but through his research he had come to the conclusion that though the more primitive side of darkness gave almost unlimited power, it removed individual control. Perhaps, as he and the Sith preached their control of the force, the force itself, (If it is indeed an entity) was laughing at them, mocking their naiveté. But make no mistake; Gadave knew his ambition was to control the force. However, the Sith, blinded in their overt glee in wanton slaughter, were not the place to find it.
So he set forth, going into self exile in his eagerness to probe the mysteries of the Force. He sent out Bounty Hunters, to capture live force users for his examinations. To fund his experiments, he used his alchemical skills as a sort of "Face surgeon" (A base task, beneath someone of his stature,) doing commissions ranging from aiding fugitives seeking to start life anew, to removing undesirable facial features for the rich, (Gadave personally considered their entire faces undesirable)
When he acquired his subjects he would, to put it bluntly, tear them apart to find out how they ticked. He tortured Light-Siders, and gauged the amount of time it took to break them to the dark side. He'd inject Dark-Siders with hallucinatory drugs, making them think they were with other prisoners, friendly and helpful prisoners, and measuring when they'd finally crack and give into lighter emotions. Altogether, he increased his knowledge of light and darkness, but not of the Force itself.
Of course he was able to get padawans and acolytes, but the "meat" of specimens he needed were of a higher level, a level he could not afford to pay bounty hunters to capture. He needed sponsors; ones equally exuberant with his choice of study. And then began a time when the galaxy was challenged by a new power rising from his original home, (The unknown regions) which hurled its body against the other forces of the galaxy.
This power was known as "The Primeval," A strong, but nauseatingly religious faction which spent its days obsessively searching for its gods. Personally, Gadave could care less about their devotion to their deities, but he could not ignore the possibility that there was a bit of truth to their statements. At one time, Gadave had dismissed the Celestials as possible creators of the force due to their erratic behavior and their defeat against the Rakata.
But was the idea of omnipotent being(s) too far fetched? In the absence of other theories this did seem like a possibility, and if by joining them he could learn more about them, or perhaps help the Primeval in their quest to find the "Lost Gods," then it would potentially jump-start his research. Besides, if these Lost Gods were the talk of mere yokels, at least he would have someone to fund his research.
Character Traits
Bane of the Ignorant: Gadave has no time for fools who bother him. In fact, he is infamous for incinerating those who do. He is short tempered, and even when people have earned his trust he shows no outward compassion for them. But if someone shows a willingness to learn, he will train them, albeit complaining about them most of the time.

A Driven Intelligence: Not even his enemies doubt his great intelligence. He demonstrates it in almost all he does, whether it be incinerating his adversaries or dissecting some lost padawan. Gadave likes to... remind people of this, and will never cease vaunting his mental skills as long as he still has them. He also distances himself from those he considers of weak mind.

Workaholic: When someone bothers him while he is working, one of two things happens to them. One; he sends them on an extremely dangerous task which will most likely end in their deaths. Two; He mixes their ashes into his tea. He will absolutely not tolerate, even if they are high ranking members of his faction, people interrupting his work. The Capital is invaded by Mandalorians? He won't budge while he's working, even if he's doing something as lowly as brewing tea.

Not Honed: You will be hard pressed to find someone with greater knowledge of the force, but knowing is different then doing. He has only trained in three abilities, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and his alchemical abilities. And even these have wild and unpredictable results. In his age induced stubbornness, he does not wish to have training from anyone, though it is becoming increasingly apparent that he needs it.

Alchemist: Gadave specializes in Sith alchemy, a powerful discipline that only few pursue. He personally believes this school of study is the key to unlocking the mysteries of the force. But when he's not using it in his experiments, he is using it to sate the appetites of his faction's war machine or using it to enhance his tower.

Power: It is not so much per se, that he is powerful in the force; it is much more that he feels powerful to people. When he is displeased with someone you can almost feel it in the air. When he gives an order to someone, even if it is a simple one, they feel the need to do it quickly rather then feel his wild fury. However when he's not on his home turf, (His tower) this seems to have less of an effect, and people see him for what he truly is; An old man.

Physically weak: Time hasn’t been kind to him, and despite his use of Sith alchemy to reverse the affects of aging, he lacks the strength needed in most combat situations. So much so, he has elected to not using a lightsaber, as anything that could withstand one would probably send his blade flying from his hand. His physical countenance is also quite low, and if will probably refuse to do anything draining on his body.

Apperance
Two words can describe him physically; old and grumpy. He is of around seventy years of age, but lacks the wrinkles that others have at his age. He is 1.767 meters tall, but doesn't frequently stretch to full height as he spends most his time hunched over his work. His eyes are typical of his race but his skin itself is of a darker hue then most Chiss. He weighs 77.11 kilograms but that number fluctuates due to his obsessive consumption of tea. He has a long black beard with streaks of grey in it. His face is usually in a scowl.
