Funny Meeting You Here (Uther Weiss)

As they closed the distance, he pushed away the air from around his right hand to create a vacuum. He deflected her staff strike with an upwards slash of his saber to knock up her staff arm, thereby exposing her chest, then brought his elbow up and forward to strike her in the chest. At the same time, he caught her flaming fist in his hand. Within the vacuum, she had no molecules to excite into a fiery state, so the fire around her hand was extinguished.

While gripping her hand, he sent a small pulse of electricity between them, targeting the nerves in her arm to make it numb. It wasn't exactly a Jedi approved move, but he wasn't Jedi, and those flames she was spewing weren't going to feel too good if she hit him with them.

Talia clenched her teeth as the electricity danced up through her musles. That actually hurt. She could no longer feel her arm, but she didn't let it distract her. She brought up her knee to Uther's gut as hard as she could and used some Forc energy to add some extra power to it.

When he felt her arm give out, he knew that he had successfully paralyzed it, so he stopped generating electricity to prevent any more serious effects. When she tried to knee him, he let her, taking the full brunt of the attack, flexing his abs she struck. It knocked the wind out of his lungs, but there was no real harm done to his augmented body.

With three of her four limbs out of commission, it left him free to sweep his heel behind her food to knock her into the air, then tackled her to the ground. Before she could get her bearing, he kept her staff pinned under his lightsaber, her paralyzed arm twisted in a stress position, and the leg she kneed him with stuck between their chests. At the moment, it seemed like he had the upper hand, but he had also placed himself in a precarious position with the pyro. He started pushing away the air around the to make a vacuum so she couldn't rely on her fire attacks.

Taia was definitely in a bind. Uther had her pinned tightly on the ground, and was making it impossible for her to use her Fire. She took a moment to note how close they were to eachother. "I guess this isn't all bad," She said with a smirk. Then she closed her eyes and began to concentrate. She gathered her Force energy, absorbing it like a sponge. Finally, her eyes flew open as she sent a large shockwave in his direction.

Despite her current predicament, she looked like she was enjoying herself. The suggestive nature of their positioning wasn't lost on him, so he returned her smirk with one of his own. However, things got serious again when he felt Talia charging for something. He didn't feel comfortable remaining on top of her to find out what exactly that something was, so he rolled off her a few moments before she released her energy. The brunt of her attack had been focused upwards, so he was able to escape the worst of it. Still caught at the edge though, it sent him rolling much farther than he had originally planned.

He stopped himself with TK, then used it to assist him in snapping back up into a guard position. Talia had been pretty liberal with her use of energy projection, so he wondered how much left she had in the tank to keep up with him. If this turned into a duel of attrition, then she would lose, just by the virtue of his augments.

Talia pulled herself off the ground quickly as soon as Uther rolled off of her. She'd actually managed to make him smile. Well, half-smile. That still counted for something in her book. She returned to her defensive stance, staring him down. That blast had taken a bit of effort on her part. She wouldn't be able to do another one like that for a little while.

When Talia shifted into a defensive stance instead of following up, Uther found it a good place to end their first duel. He deactivated his saber, then gave her a bow of respect. She had surprised her with her willingness to engage him as she was a caster type, including wielding her staff like a bludgeon. (That would have caused a nice big knot if he had allowed her to connect with that.) That was a sign that the recognized her shortcomings and her willingness to adapt. Their fight ended with holding her in much higher esteem.

Talia watched Uther relax and deactivate his weapon. Letting out a sigh, she relaxed as well. She wiped a bit of sweat that had formed on her brow. "Well. That was both entertaining and educational. You certainly know how to play a good game, Uther." She said, grinning widely. Placing her staff back on its holder on her back, she stretched and popped her fingers.

Now that the duel was over, he felt comfortable standing close to her again. She had an infectious smile, and already feeling good, he couldn't help but her a big grin back. From past experiences, he knew how people could be pretty sore about outcomes even in mock battles, instead of acknowledging their shortcomings, but it was nice to see her keep a good attitude about it.

"As do you, it was an enlightening experience sparing against a Witch."

Seeing her perform her fiery art, it got him interested in giving it a try himself. Already, he was considering all the possibilities of with pyrokinesis.

"So, is your art something exclusive to your kind, or would you be willing to share what you know?"

Talia laughed. "My kind? You make me sound like some rare breed of Bantha!" She joked. "Anyway, I started learning when I was five years old. My father noticed that I had a tendency to start fires at random when there were no materials around to make one. So he told me about the Force, my abilities, and then he started teaching me. My younger sister was the same way." Brittany wasn't as hot-headed as she'd been. Or hard-headed, for that matter. "I can teach you the basics, I guess. What you do with it from there is entirely up to you."

It was always interesting hearing about how some people came into their powers. For some people, like Talia, it came naturally, but for others they had to work at it to even be able to levitate a feather into the air. For Uther, it was forced upon him though. His skin and bones were now infused with micro-crystals that let him draw upon the force like he was a natural. It certainly didn't feel natural though, not at first. Even when he wasn't actively using the Force, he felt the sensation of something enveloping and tugging on him, like a strong river current.

"I didn't mean it like that, my apologies. I meant you as a Witch. Your ways are different from the Jedi and the Sith. Anyway, I would be grateful for whatever you could show me."

Talia shrugged. "Eh. I can do that too. Never hurts to learn." She rubbed the back of her neck. "But first, I have got to get some nice, cold, refreshing water. Care to come with, or are you going to pull one of those solemn 'I drink forever alone' stunts on me?" She said, smirking.

"I could go for some juice myself, good idea." He wasn't actually thirsty, but he found himself enjoying her company enough to humor her request. He clipped his lightsaber back on his belt, then brushed away the remains of his orange from the field into the forest to become compost. "Let's hit the dining hall."

Talia walked with Uther into the dining hall. Everyone was coming and going at a leisurely pace, making the atmosphere light and care-free. Talia walked over to one of the massive iced containers near the food bar and dug out a bottle of water. "What kind of juice do you want? They've got orange, grape, apple, cherry, strawberry, lemonade, limeade, and a bunch of other mystery drinks." She asked, looking over her shoulder at him with one hand still in the ice.

"I'll take a cherry, thanks."

He found them smally empty table next to one of the windows, then quickly glanced through the news feed on his expandable datapad. The One Sith still had the momentum, but there was now a lull in major operations. While it wasn't explicity stated, he knew coalition forces were scrambling to get it together. Things weren't as hectic with the Jedi, but they still busied themselves with analyzing all the weapons that the Sith had brought to bare. Like the Voxyn on Alderaan.

Studying Talia for a moment, he was reminded that she was a mercenary. It made him think of his old PMC company, North Wind. He wondered how many of them were still kicking around in Eshan or lord knows where. It pained him letting his friends and family still think he was dead or missing.

Talia sat down across from him, handing him his juice. She personally didn't look at too many news feeds. News was always either sad or angering or bleak or all three. The only time she ever payed attention to it was if she was going into a war zone or disaster area. That, or if her job involved someone famous. She sipped her limeade in silence as Uther glanced through current galactic events. Then, she noticed his gaze grow distant. It was an almost pained expression. She wasn't one to pry into other people's business, but when it came to friends, she was empathetic and concerned. "Is there something bothering you?" She asked, suddenly gentle.

Talia's question broke him away from his thoughts, thankfully.

"No..well maybe. I was just thinking about family and friends. Since the war broke out, I've basically been stuck out in the boonies trying to continue my training, but even before that, I wasn't one to visit home often. I regret that now."

He was mostly truthful in his explanation, but omitted the part about his time with the Sith, and the fact he was living under a different alias instead of coming up front about his return.

Talia nodded her head in understanding. "I've felt the same way about my brother for a while now. Carter. You see, my family used to be a lot... bigger, than it is now. My father, my mother, me, and the twins. We were very tight-knit, protective of each other. Not rich, but we worked hard and ate well. Then the Clockwork Rebellion began. My father went to fight. My sister followed him. By the time we could leave, they were gone. It was hard on mother. Especially hard on Carter. It was up to me to get us all back to mother's birth home on Corellia. It wasn't as extravagant as we hoped. We had to turn to mercenary work to support ourselves. Me and Carter? We were unstoppable. We got the job done, and we did it right. But, our status didn't rub certain people the right way. They... They killed our mother. All I remember is feeling... numb. As if it was merely a horrible dream, and that I'd wake up, and she'd be there telling me not to worry and wishing me well. But it wasn't a dream. We knew who'd done it. We knew." For the first time since she'd met Uther, her laughing eyes and comical expression vanished, replaced by a hollow and solemn face. "In that moment, I felt anger. A rage so pure, so rampant and deep. It consumed me. And... I loved it. It's never happened since. But when it was there, I couldn't be killed. Carter and I stormed into their residence and exacted revenge. We burned it to the ground. I felt their blood wash over my hands, their ashes rising into the air. It was enough." Her expression returned to normal. "After that, Carter joined up with the Republic and turned into a soldier boy. We haven't talked in a long time. I'm hoping I can meet up with him soon, though."
