Private Frozen Treasures

This one was a bit different for her. An ice world? She wasn’t certain she liked it, but she didn’t feel dried out. Some tundra planets were like that, all this snow and ice but still dry air. This one was different. Brooke had no issue with it.

Sure, she hated the cold, but a bit of a spell, and really warm furs from an animal native to the northern hemisphere of Dathomir gave her a bit of warmth. The colors were still her Clans, blue and white. Not that it mattered to most, but it helped her continue to claim her connection to home. That and the satchel with some spell components and pieces of living blue coral. Most of the last was left on her ship, in the warm salt water aquarium.

Still, she had trinkets made of it, on her bangles and necklaces. Enough to provide her protection. Not that she was expecting too much of trouble here. Jedi temples, even ancient enclaves, did have their traps but not something that would pull on the Force to kill her.

Merely trap her.

Approaching the door, she placed a bare hand on it. Still cold, but not bitterly so, with the walls protecting her from the winds outside. This door was locked, but it wasn’t a regular lock, this had a work of a Jedi Sage all over it. And she could feel the holocrons behind the door.

Taking a second to fall to her knees, she focused, on the training she received as a Jedi and on her mind of a Witch, how to pick through the protection.

Lily had always enjoyed the weather when it was colder, it felt more like home and she was always happy to put more layers on than endure the terrible intensity of heat with no ways to easily cool down. Just to be on the safer side of things, Lily did grab some snow wear that was going to prevent the worst of the cold that could affect Lily while she was outside during the day. The wind was blowing that only added to the chill and caused Lily to feel her cheeks flush with a light pink, adding some colour to her usual pale complexion.

There was word of a Jedi temple, potentially a former enclave that existed out here, something that Lily decided to investigate after having found a Sith Lord at a previous abandoned temple that Lily had visited. Darth Malvora Darth Malvora had been a tough fight and Lily was worried that there were going to be others that sought to loot and steal the history of the Jedi in the false belief that the Jedi were gone. Lily knew that they should hoard the knowledge but there was something that she felt was deeply disrespectful or wrong about raiding the empty temples of people who lived their lives out, worked hard to develop a home and community.

Even out here on a world that was just a tundra. Something pulled the Jedi here and they wanted to help others from this location.

So, it became another thing on her long list of things to do. Find lost temples and attempt to protect the knowledge and legacy that they held. People cared more for the knowledge in archives than they ever did about the people who existed here, who spent their lives doing good from the temple. Those were elements that were just as important to Lily, remembering the people who lived and breathed the temple. Not solely the knowledge that a temple held locked away. That was important but it could not be placed more important. Not to her at least.

As Lily approach the temple, her eyes noticed that there was someone that was already here, meditating outside of the temple, her hand instinctively reached for her Lightsaber. Experience had revealed to Lily that she needed to be cautious, Sith seemed to be far too bold in their desires to raid and plunder what was once Jedi. However, Lily didn't grab the hilt, not yet. She stepped closer, "who are you? I'm Lily Decoria, Jedi Knight."

Cold worlds. They always had a weird spot for Brooke. It was water, all around, the source of her magick, and strength, honestly. Kept her hydrated, and her clan’s spells powerful. Ice was just another state of it. Perhaps it was her hybrid blood, but why did the cold affect her so much? The blonde shook her head as she continued to work her way through the protections of the door. Honestly, she hoped no one was going to be coming looking for the contents here. But as a member of the Selab, this was her job. Part of it anyway.

As she was working through the Temple’s defense, she could feel it starting to give. All she had to do was keep picking through this protection. Not unlike a lock, or solving a riddle in a very complex computer system, one that fought back against the hacker. It was… honestly, exciting in Brooke’s mind.

Hearing the announcement behind her, Brooke sighed and let the Temple’s protections back up, before turning her head, blonde hair spilling from the hood. She was unarmed and not reaching for anyone weapon, or even a spell component.

“Brooke Waters, of Dathomir and Chandrilla.” Simply stated as she got to her feet, looking to the Echani. She knew the name.

She knew most names.

There was no instant reaction to her name or title, nothing that seemed to scream that this was a Sith. Dathomir was currently under Mandalorian occupation and Chandrila was under the thumb of the Sith Covenant, not ideal but just because one came from those worlds did not mean they were associated with the current ones in charge. While Lily steadied her hand, her guard was not lowered and her mental defences were kept up high just in case something suspicious happened. This was still someone attempting to break into a Jedi temple.

"Why are you interested in a Jedi temple, Brooke Waters?" Lily asked plainly, taking a step forward. Her silver eyes staring forward, analysing every part of the woman. What would be the type of fighting she would use? Would there be Dathomiri influences? Lily had learned a fair amount about how the warriors trained on Dathomir, it was all part of her training as a child on Eshan.

Pausing, Lily moved to the side, "most important question is less on why you are interested in the temple and more on why should I believe what you say?" Lily stated, "I have known Sith desiring to enter these temples and corrupt them, taint the knowledge held within. Betray what these sanctuaries mean and should continue to be about." There was hurt in her voice as she thought about the ideas that places like this would be ruined by the Sith all because the Jedi have fallen in too many numbers.

Brooke did her best to keep people on the edge. She wasn’t beholden to any one galactic superpower, save for maybe some loose congress of worlds along the Outer Rim. She called out instead to two of the three worlds she preferred. Honestly, she spent more time on Pamarthe, but it didn’t have clout or the warning the other two did.

“Me? SEems there are ruins all over the galaxy. I tend to go around and…ensure the pieces of knowledge don’t fall into the wrong hands.” Not necessarily the Sith, but definitely the Raskava. But she wasn’t about to give all her secrets away. Honestly, it was just about keeping data preserved.

And if this Jedi group had left it behind? Well, perhaps the Jedi shouldn’t be tasked with protecting these holocrons. “I mean, you are right. And perhaps I’m just a collector of information. And I don’t want someone not worthy to be collecting the data.” It wasn’t the most official way to speak, as a selabite, but she didn’t want to start a fight with a Jedi. That wasn’t her style.

“I think we are both in agreement that it shouldn’t be left… to vultures.”

Lily listened, nothing said was an attempt to persuade her that this was someone trustworthy. In fact it was someone being very cautious and deliberate with the way they phrased their wording. Could not be called a liar if you select the words correctly enough to not lie but provide yourself enough of a loophole. It was not something that Lily was fond of others doing, she was very upfront and blunt in the way she spoke, honesty with an open sleeve. While she was not confident in trusting this other woman, Lily swallowed the doubts and nodded her head. Nothing screamed out as clear danger or a reason to be concerned.

"I have been doing something similar. I visit temples to protect what they were, what they are. Ensure that one day, when the Jedi are strong once again, these enclaves will be available and ready to accept the people. While also ensuring the knowledge stored is kept safe and secure." Lily was not sure why Brooke sought to do the same, or what she believed was the danger to these locations. It felt like a larger issue was being kept from Lily but the Jedi Knight could not pry without being accusatory.

Inhaling deeply, Lily felt the icy air filling her lungs, it was still very cold and only going to get worse as the night approached. "Why should the knowledge here be better of with you than with a Jedi?" Lily questioned, still figuring out the motivations for Brooke here. What fascination or concern was there? "You claim to keep it out of the hands of vultures, are you not a vulture in doing this?"

Brooke knew how it looked, hell if someone came calling around a ruin of a Dathomir Witch Kingdom site, and she saw them? She’d probably come in spell-slinging first, asking questions later. It was one of hte perks of her training with the Witches. It wasn’t as withdrawn as the Jedi. But she had friends who were Jedi, and lived under their umbrella on Kattada. She had no reason to like to the woman before her.

And hell, if she wasn’t out here tomb raiding, there was even less of a reason to not try to make this person a friend of hers. “It is a shame, what has become of Jedi through the galaxy. Stories of old state they were all around the galaxy, until schisms and their fealty to the Republic, or Alliance of the day.” She made a soft hand motion, indicating the situation as she had known it, one that had gone on for years. Perhaps why Starchaser moved to the Stars, or a world that was removed.

Until Planeshift.

Why should the knowledge be with her?

“Have you met Jedi, of late? Hear there are already cracks within the Republic Jedi.”
As for her being a vulture, Brooke grinned. “Vulture with a noble purpose, is still a vulture. True, but at least I know my purpose.”

Even if it is to hide it away until someone was ready to claim it properly.
