From beyond the Pale of Darkness

HK-36

The Iron Lord Protector (Neutral Good)
Location: Hyperspace Tunnel, aboard the Siege Tower

Objective: Get to the battle as reinforcements for the Remnant, still on the way

Other Characters: Lonely HK

The officers' eyes widened,

"I cannot believe it."

"I never thought I will witness something like this."

A bunch of meeps and mrrews were heard from the HK who was the center on attention on the bridge,

"Can he do one more?"

One of the officers asked, holding a Ropo before tossing it to the droid, the officers gasped,

"He can!"

While they were on their way to join the battle and their troops were preparing, HK and other bridge officers had some spare time so he decided to see how many Ropos at once he would be able to juggle. Currently he was at 13.

I held my right arm behind my back while my left hand stroked my mustache.
"Sound general quarters!" I ordered.
"All hands general quarters, all hands general quarters, man your battle stations, man your battle stations!"
I analyzed the enemy formation for just a brief moment before deciding on who we should target. It was quite obvious at this point that the enemy now about to come into weapons range were not stopping despite Lt. Commander Shapocka’s warning. Nor was there any response
Coordinate with the Grand Stallion, Her Majesty’s Destroyer and the Night Dagger we will concentrate our fire in synchronized salvos at the lead frigate and that they should direct fire at the right flank
"Aye aye sir!"

My orders were swiftly carried out.
Launch our void wing, have the fighters screen the bombers and make sure our wing supports the 181st and by giving them covering fire
"Void wing away!"
The Resolute Dreamer’s void wing was extremely basic in equipment. Old tie bombers and Tie/In models. The 181st were the most well equipped void wing in the Star Fleet. However our 64 fighters and bombers would provide ample support. In reality the tactics would incur some losses. A preliminary scan displayed that these flying skyscrapers were hardly armed.

The enemy formation appeared to be streaming right toward our own formation.
Let the Insufferable know that the enemy intends to push through our formation and appear to be on a collision courses toward our vessel
"Sir it appears the forward two are accelerating toward us!"
So it they were... I could only imagine the insane fool who would so blindly run these ships into the jaws of death...

Ekaro

That fool was no fool, for he was Ekaro.
Yes, yes, forward my pawns of destruction ahahaha! Let the harbingers will be done!” Ekaro smashed his fist again several times onto the obsidian throne. The hallucinogens at this point were severely effecting his depth perception and the bridge had begun to alter colors. He reached out with force clicking his tongue as while skimming the thoughts of the two Deluge frigate under his command.
There was no fear among those destined to die. They embraced it. The grin widened and a hiss of pleasure at the devotion of his followers. Such Sephi were almost the most devoted. Ekaro decided to try and fool the Imperials who were deploying a cloud of fighters like some locust plague. “Order the Kiss of the Gods and the Fist of Triumph to drop bow by 45 degrees with engines to full for 45 seconds then again bring them up by 66 degrees and aim for that ugly monstrosity” Ekaro brought his now broken hand up and with several small cracks in the bones he jutted a finger at the crinan destroyer Night Dagger.
"Your will be done my Doyen" A bridge minion whose face was melting before Ekaro's eyes spoke.
Ekaro had once spent nine months sacrificing those of weaker ilk. He sat in one spot for nine months. All while starring into the depths of a black hole from a far. Cracking the skulls and slitting the throats of those who did not fervently believe as strongly as he did. The Cult of Ekaro was a zealous lot, there were few other groups on Gulamendis that surpassed the devotion these religious warriors displayed.

Ekaro was blessed and cursed by the gods. He would demonstrate the ultimate loyalty to them today. For he learned much from the black hole. That death was a certainty in the universe and only the gods could grant life again if the purest of sacrifice was made. Ekaro knew that the fools who willingly laid themselves down before him to die were of weaker ilk. Lesser beings who had given themselves over to another. The truth as Ekaro saw it was that you had to revel in the death and suffering of others and then you had to enjoy the death of oneself to the fullest…

Ekaro clicked his teeth as the Imperial's ugly vessels began to kindly try and push away with concentrated fire the Fist of Triumph.

Ekaro’s hand was sending waves of energy up the arm and into his skull. The helmet pooled such pain and let it steep in the back of the Sephi’s mind. When death came that stored pain would release all at once to tear away all that Ekaro had built up. He was a beacon of energy in the force. Some might see it as dark as a black hole. To Ekaro, death was the spectrum all colors… a beautiful piece of art that few could experience it more than once!

The vanguard fleet continued to push forward; heading towards their target destination and no matter what fleets stood before them they would not halt. Pyrrhus Alet watched as [member="Ekaro"] took course towards one of the enemy destroyers; watching the Deluge-class make its path for a collision course. The Executor watched carefully as the remaining Deluge's maintained their course. The Carnage class and Mendacity classes under his command were more than conservative the wave of fires trailing behind made their way towards the enemy fighters released and intended to fire their weapons into their formations. However, the gu-54 bombers would not maintain interception roles but instead would attempt to break past the enemy fighters and strike at their frigates. Those that weren't destroyed by enemy fire would either smash into the hulls or narrowly pull away and go to repeat their maneuvers.

"Fire the ions at their flagships when in range.", Alet gave orders to the two mendacity-class corvettes to use their heavy long-ranged ions against the star destroyers as a message to keep them at bay. His own 'flagship' began to charge its mass drivers -- waiting for the right moment to give covering fire when the High King breaks off from formation and heads towards the world in front of them.

The fleet had a great challenge ahead of them. They were clearly outgunned but they would not stop now that they've come so far and Alet was already losing favour with Anja; hence why he was placed in-charge of the Vanguard. Soon enough she would handpick a new fleet commander. Someone more dangerous and tactical than he could ever be.

This was it.

Alva flicked the switches on her cockpit's board as she completed her final systems check and brought her TIE Seeker to life. The engines roared as they activated before entering the more gentle thrum as they idled while Crina's second princess and the 181st's Flight Commander waited for the confirmation of all the Squadron Leader's status as well as the all clears from the members of Skull Squadron Specifically since she was in command of them personally. Once everyone came in green and readied for launch there was no more hesitation, not that there was any need for any after all. Alva had complete faith in the abilities of herself as a fighter and pilot as well as the abilities of the craft she was in control of.

"All Squadrons this is Captain Calvarona, launch when ready. Skull Squadron on me!" Gripping the controls of her TIE Seeker tightly, Alva's hands danced quickly over the cockpit of her fighter as she dropped it from its rack and guided it out of the Insufferable's hanger along with the many others leaving the bowels of the ISD. The enemy were coming right to them and they were going to be ready. Although from the readouts coming in from the sensors it hardly seemed like a fair fight . . . . the enemy squadrons appeared to be rather small.

Location- Aboard one of the Mendacity Class corvettes

[Music]
Kadri stood at the deck of his own ship The Spectator- One of the two mendacity corvettes- awaiting until the capitol ships were at an optimal range. Displays were lit up around his chair, feeding him all of the tactical information that he would need. The ship that he was commanded to aim at was the largest threat, and therefore the prime target, most likely the command vessel of the small force they were coming up against. His own first officer was aboard the other Mendacity corvette, the two currently communicating through a comlink
"Bant, I want you to fire at the dorsal tower of the largest ship, fire after my own vessel. We need to gauge the strength of their ships' shields so that Commander Alet can advise his own vessels an optimal course of action..."

"Captain Ughad, sir! The infidels have launched a substantial number of fighters into the battle!" An information officer shouted. Kadri looked at his own tactical readout, what the sephi woman claimed was true. He sighed

"Patch me through to both vessels, Sephi. NOW!" Such was done. "All fighter pilots man stations, prepare for launch on my command. I want repair teams waiting at a safe distance from the engine rooms in case we have to get into a brawl. Other repair teams will focus on keeping our turrets up and running for when the enemy sees us as a threat. Captain out, prepare for further orders." Kadri moved his hand in a slicing motion across his neck, giving the signal for the sephi officer to cut the communications.

What seemed like hours passed before the captain was given the signal that the enemy ship was in range of their cannons

"FIRE!"

And so the Mendacities fired their Gods' wills at the Insufferable

Executor Alet watched as The Spectator fired its long-ranged ion towards the Insufferable. The ionic charge shot out in a beam-weapon that erupted from the fixed barrel that fit sturdily inside the central hull of the corvette; the white-blue streak of light glanced across the space inbetween the fleets, warping all other sources of light around them as if a flashlight had just been shined in everyone's eyes; well anyone who was looking at least.

"Excellent.", the commander reassured himself in release at the competence of The Spectator's commanding officer. It gave him confidence that they may yet pull off a swift victory as long as their larger ships are kept at bay. In order to impress Anja he had to impress Ozuvyn and to do that he needed to make sure the High King got the bloodshed he desired from this war. "Maintain course: Don't break formations.", he gave out orders to the entire vanguard fleet. "All ships open fire!", he shouted a final order over the intercom before turning to his second-in-command.

"Don't fire the mass-drivers until my command.", he said to the Umbaran officer -- someone with a superiority complex. The Umbaran grinned distastefully with a mocking obedience. "Of course, Commander.", his voice resonated with pride and self-confidence; almost boasting for abilities he had yet to show. Having a weak link in your officers is bad enough but being forced to have your second-in-command be someone who's influential father chosen was worse: Especially in human's company. "Don't get caught up in the glory. This is battle, not a test of showmanship.", Alet spoke with whatever hope to instill discipline he could. This was a rare occurrence amongst the fleet. Few ever had rivalries and even fewer did so amongst the senior officers. This was a unique situation that in most cases would be purged but Alet's state of being as a human has lead to many specific challenges amongst the leadership and perhaps was one of few shortcomings in Anja's leadership that shown.

Musical Accompanyment

We were loaded into the launch tubes. The moment Captain Calvarona gave the order we were launched. We were all silent. As we hurtled out the launch tubes passing under the red luminescent lights I could feel my heart rate begin to increase. Our comms traffic rippled with the numerous other squadrons from the rest of the fleet who were also deploying. In total two hundred and forty four star craft had just launched forth from the Imperial Fleet.

Torch squadrons Star Wings were a modified version of the original design. These were actually two seater trainer craft that had been converted into fully operational assault boats. Adrenaline began to release into my veins. As we were hurled out into the vastness of space I grasped the tactical and operational readouts to get an understanding of our positioning. Having deployed from the belly the Insufferable the 181st was diving away from the star destroyer initially.

The 23rd Void Wing from the Resolute Dreamer had already launched and were moving to join our formation. Tie Interceptors and the old Tie bomber series made up their wing. I looked up as a bright white explosion erupted in the darkness. One of the two frigates that had apparently pushed ahead of the enemy vanguard was taking a relentless barrage of fire from the C-Destroyers. The forward hull section had ruptured, its shields were practically gone although in a few parts it was still sporadically deflecting. One of its engines had exploded. The starboard engine was still functioning some how and the flaming wreck began to turn into a slow spin.

I licked my lips as a wry smile pursed my lips, striking the comms I beckoned my fellow pilots
Alright Ladies and Gentleman lets not the let the ship jocks have all the fun now! Bombers on me, I’ll need some fighter cover! Let us give them an upper cut and slice open their engines? How about it boys and girls lets break these bastards apart!”
A chorus of agreements roared back. “Saber Leader I’ll need you to help me by giving these bastards a good parry for me and my troupe of void kissing bastards to burn their guts out!”
Roger that Torch Leader we’ll skewer, you roast ‘em!”
The enemy frigates were apparently prepared as their formation seemed to adapt to the changing situation or maybe were already expecting this and had kept a loose formation for a reason.
Either way it didn’t matter. Saber squadron and my own were aiming for on these frigates on the right flank of the now broken V formation. “Incoming flak!” Shouted Torch 5 from behind me.
I can see that!” I shouted back as a field of hostile fire began to erupt around us,”Just get me a force forsaken target resolution Frank before I reach back there and throttle you!”
Phrasing!”
I clicked my comms to private. “I will turn this star craft around!” I screamed
Alright Alright!” Torch 5 spoke.
I heard a scream over the comms and glanced to my left to see Torch 7 get struck right in the center of her cockpit. She erupted into flames and exploded. Another scream could be heard from Saber 3 whose shields had failed. His lower right wing was clipped and he went careening by 35.7 degrees toward the galactic southeast. Still alive but barely.
I got a target lock
I glanced down at the targeting computer which showed that we were on a dead set course to unleash out payload into this floating slab of metal propulsion.
We shall defend, for the Empire!” I shouted over the comms as Saber squadron along with my Torch Squadron unleashed a full payload and barrage of blaster fire into the engines.

Fleet:
Flagship: Insufferable ISD II - minor hull damage; temporary deactivation of several dorsal gun batteries
Resolute Dreamer Crinan Carrier - full strength
2 Crinan Destroyers - full strength
3 Merciless Frigates - full strength

"Fire from the corvettes! Heavy ion cannons!" The intruders had defied her Imperial authority and were now officially enemies of the state.

Tålamod snarled as two brilliant beams of light flared towards the hull of her ship, the bridge viewports hastily adjusting to the light intensity and dimming so that all were not blinded as they watched the first volley approach. Insufferable's shields diminished the strength of the ion blasts, but a fraction of both shots failed to be absorbed and impacted into the plating of the Imperial-II Star Destroyer. An alert was broadcast over the intercoms about power loss to sections of the dorsal decks.

"Half of the fighter squadrons, I want escorting the majority bombers and focus on the corvettes which just fired. No mercy, yes. Kill them, slaughtered." Diplomacy was over, as far as Shapochka was concerned. The hostiles had not been playing around when they fired those potent blasts, and she would play no games in return. "Merciless frigates, escort the command vessels on their starboard.

"Captain!" she barked.

"Ma'am!"

"This ship is to position polar south. Keep the corvettes to our portside. Forward to the larger vessels and expose our dorsal hull so all functioning batteries are to be firing, yes!" The mighty Insufferable began to 'dip' with its north hull facing the south hulls of the opposition, turbolasers turning upwards to open fire upon the bellies of the Deluge frigates.

"Resolute Dreamer has just informed us that the corvettes are on a collision vector with her," the comms officer relayed.

Shapochka arose from her seat and rushed to the viewport to visually take this scene in. "All bombers--all bombers, concentrate on those corvettes!"

This whole attack was a lovely surprise. It would take her entire focus and--quite possibly--physical endurance to prove she was not inept at command. Nervously, Shapochka swept back her hair and readjusted her cap. She was not going to make it this far, only to stumble at the first speedbump she faced as a leader.

The weapons had hit. Good, their response was nearly immediate too, a shift of one of the fighter clouds changing its course.
"Captain, we have a ship coming in fast off the port bow! Advised cou-"

"Dip us Thirty-two degrees polar south to this planet, pilot! I want that ship's ventral above us!" Kadri bellowed. "Bant, take the Sword of Sargoth 22 degrees polar North, draw attention to your self. Patch me into the full communication system of both of these ships, officer. Bant, I want you to keep your goals set on firing the ion cannon on that command ship. Captain out!" The Sephi officer pressed a few buttons on her own display before she gave Ughad a thumbs-up. "All fighters launch in defensive formation around the Sword! Fire upon all hostile fighters that would dare get into the range of your guns! Captain out!" A quick nod was all he needed to give before the Sephi once again cut communications between the two ships.

"Pilot, I want you to turn us towards the approaching vessel and continue turning, I want to make them sitting ducks before we meet our Lord Sargon in the Void!"

The Sword of Sargoth began its northern ascent, while the Spectator dipped to the South. Streams of red-hot orveth catapaulting from the Sword and the eight bombers defending it into the oncoming locust swarm.

(There seems to be some confusion, I meant to have the ships responding to the incoming Resolute Dreamer)

The Carnage-class heavy frigate under the command of Pyrrhus Alet was in prime position to fire upon the Insufferable now hit by the long-ranged heavy ion blast. The ship's six mass driver barrels locked onto the ship, just beyond the volley of fighters and fired. Projectiles quickly gained velocity and followed by orange streaks as they headed towards the star destroyer. The Deluge-class' were firing turbolasers, flak, and other defense guns towards the cloud of fighters. It was nearly time; the battle was about to enter its climax and soon [member="Ozuvyn Sar-Sargoth"] would be able to 'land' his ship into the world's surface. Data from the surface was already coming back due to the sensory transmissions, there was some kind of structural complex in-range of his descent path.

"Patch me through to the High King.", Executor Alet said in an order to his intercom officer. The officer compiled and opened up a two-way transmission with him. "My Lord, we're approaching the planet. You may break off.", he intended to let the King know that now was the opportunity without suggesting an order. The rest of the Deluge-class frigates were on a collision course and as soon as it happened would create brief window for him to break off formation and escape the battle amidst the confusion. If they had any good chance of success now was the time. Despite their impression, Alet knew they were already losing. The corvettes would only buy them time and the carnage's mass drivers would have to be used sparingly unless they gave the enemy a prime gap for an attack run. The remaining bombers continued their assault some turning back to assault he fighter swarm.

The rest was up to the High King, Alet could not be certain how much time he could give. "Send out a signal to Order's End.", and once more the intercom officer did their work.

"This is Executor Alet, Commander of the Vanguard. Our fleet has engaged the unknown enemy and the battle is still underway; the High King is beginning his attack on the planet. I request assistance for retrieval." , he sent out the message. Once the frigate was planetside there was no getting it back; the vessel would be wrecked and rigged for self-destruction leaving Ozuvyn only a small window for someone to retrieve him.

"Maintain your formations, fighter squadrons keep pace with the bombers and screen for them in case the enemy's picket screens try to get in their way." Not that Alva thought it would be much of a problem for them. Not only was their enemy vastly outnumbered, but they were also incredibly outgunned. The Insufferable may only have been an ISD II since the III class wasn't finished yet, but even the Crinan Destroyers and Carriers were bigger than the enemy's largest vessel. Plus half the craft used by the Imperial Squadrons was highly advanced such as the TIE Seekers, Defenders, and Avengers. Their opponents were well and truly doomed, it was only a matter of how much time it took and how much fight they put up. Because Alva heard the reports, the cries over the comms, and saw her shifting tactical display. Their foes were being stubborn, and as she figured the biggest threat would be enemy flak fire.

"Torch and Saber keep on course. Hound and Justice Squadrons move to intercept the enemy fighters, wipe them out. Skull Squadron form up on me, we'll be escorting Executioner and Scimitar Bomber Squadrons against the enemy corvettes." Turning her TIE Seeker about, Crina's Second Princess flipped channels to connect to the Resolute Dreamer's flight officer. "Resolute Dreamer this is Captain Calvarona, divert your half your TIEs to support Hound, Justice, Saber, and Torch Squadrons, deploy the bombers and the rest on the corvettes approaching your position. Skull, Executioner and Scimitar are enroute." Pushing on the throttle Alva watched as they began to approach the enemy warships, her eyes switching between her display, her payloads, and the status of the enemy in the void before her.

"Captain, the ion cannon is ready to fire!"

"Set up communications with Bant again, don't let me disconnect them again, I want complete information of what's going on on both sides of this schism." A few seconds passed before he spoke again.
"Bant, change of tactics, fire the ion cannon into the swarm coming your way."

"But, sir, what about the comm-" He was cut off

"That is not an issue right now, Bant. Or do you doubt the ability of your own allies?" As if on cue, several. missiles connected with the Sword's particle shields and three of the eight bombers which had been placed on defense. "There's enough energy in that cannon to disable most it not all of them for a good amount of time. Now do it and get out of there before you get the rest of my bombers destroyed!"

A noticeable sight came through the speakers, "Fire at will!"

Another beam invaded the black heavens

A quick smirk parted Kadri's lips. "Fire at will."

Sir Skull Leader of the 181st is requesting for our fighters and bombers to aid them on their attack runs” The flight officer informed me.
Right right” I stroked my mustache in thought and watched as the enemy corvettes seemed to be putting up a good show. Despite their minimal fire power of their fleet in comparison to ours these intruders were not fighting like ordinary pirates, privateers or even resembled any sort of organized military force seen on the galactic stage these days. Their tactics alluded me.
The two destroyers cut apart the enemy’s forward most frigate. The enemy commander of this rabble seemed to be taking drunken swings at. It was almost as if we were being gauged, and these fools were the paltry meat tossed to a pack of Kath hounds to see how they would react.
The Enemy corvettes certainly packed a punch having made some light disabling damage to the Insufferable.

My gaze held firm as the enemy frigate which had pushed ahead directly for us began to buckle and rupture under the intense fire power being laid upon. A series of small explosions could be seen rupturing the dorsal decks from fore to aft. Each explosion smaller than the last as until they crept from view and then a small star appeared in the void as the reactors went critical, overloading the engines to generate a small explosion. Debris scattered in all directions knocking several of our fighters out of commission.

I turned to look at the flight officer over my shoulder “Acknowledge Skull Leader’s request and direct our fighter squadrons to aid their bombers” I ordered.
“Yes Sir,” the flight officer issued the orders down to the flight chiefs who would then relay it out to the squadron leaders. The 23rd Void Wing began to group up in accordance to Skull Leaders commands.

My attention was now on the tactical holodisplay. The enemy vessels were seeking to perform a reverse Ackbar slash on us, The fools. “Helm rotate us slowly 90 degrees to port concentrate fire on these frigates here and here” I poke at the frigates that were splitting their courses, one galactic norht and the other south which was trying to get at our ventral belly. "Yes Sir!" I put on a headset and listened directly to the orders from the commanding officer. My gaze found itself watching as the Merciless class frigates moved to form up on our port. "Instruct those frigates to follow suit with our rotation. We'll pummel them as they enter into our field of fire"

I turned back to see a second spectacular explosion of similar circumstances to the other frigate, resulting from Torch Squadron’s strike run. A smile formed for a moment as the vessel cracked in two, its wreckage and debris began to drift in all directions. A shower of debris was flung in the direction of the oncoming fighters who began to scramble out of the way, and just in time as one of the enemy corvettes unleashed another full ion blast which appeared to be directed at the squadrons.
My smile turned quickly to a frown "Persistent" I stroked my mustache and glanced at the display, roughly a one third of them were caught in the blast and would suffer damage from both the blast and the debris.

Actions
  • Resolute Dreamer is splitting is fire at the vessels moving north and south of it.
  • Merciless Frigates are performing the same rotation to port and are firing at the frigate to the galactic south.

A sudden bright pulse of Ion energy erupted from one of the smaller corvettes. Its course of fire went straight at the approaching squadrons from the Resolute and the Crinan Destroyers.
The wreckage from the second enemy frigate to be destroyed had undoubtedly just saved a great number of pilots from becoming sitting ducks. It looked like only a third of them were caught on the edges of that blast with a few directly in the path.

"All bombers--all bombers, concentrate on those corvettes!" Came over our comms as we had a number of lovely choices below us to attack

New target boys and girls, the enemy fleet seems to have brought a few glass cannons to the fight. Let’s break the fine dish ware shall we?”
brought our bearing and target acquisition marker onto the corvette that had just fired.

"We have detected projectile fire from the large frigate!" came the cry, its words' power evident as everyone on the command deck turned their heads to gaze upon the fiery comets aimed for them. Shapochka's composure dropped as she realized what was next. Her eyes softened, regret clouding her face as voices of failure filled her mind. Sure, they would undoubtedly annihilate this alien force, but the cost would be unacceptable--especially for a fleet under the command of a descendant of Imperial prestige. She should have seen this.

The floor trembled beneath the officers' feet as each of the driver's missiles plowed into the shield decking of Insufferable, rupturing plating and exposing partitions to the void of space. Her vision could detect the men flung to the stars from quarters near the bow of the vessel. Her eyes burned and her fists balled, dread and fury mixing together to subdue her usually collected emotions. "Move within range," Tålamod commanded. "All operating ion cannons, fire. Then following with all turbos, yes." It was intended to be a disabling and then a dismantling strike to those who dared humiliate her.

"Ma'am, the smaller vessels are avoiding us and advancing towards the planet."

A tear escaped one of her turquoise eyes, knowing that the star destroyer was incapable of pursuing the enemy assailants. I have lost. "Kill this one," she ordered, pointing at the Carnage-class frigate dead-ahead. If the Imperial fleet's smaller ships could not catch up to the remaining frigates in time to avert disaster, then she was at least going to make this brazen opponent pay. "Kill it."
