Character Forlan Norsama

Forlan was born into debt-bondage, a slave in all but name, working for a large mega-corporation under the control of the Sith, and he spent his formative years scavenging trash and crawling into manufactory compactors, keeping the war machine of the Sith running. Under such circumstances, Forlan formed a deep and abiding hatred of repression and oppression. From early on he was involved in numerous sabotage actions, though each act of resistance was repaid tenfold in blood. By a stroke of luck, Forlan evaded capture and detection each time, though when he finally escaped capitivity in adulthood he had already lost several fingers between hazardous labour and group punishment. As the Empire fell into civil war, Forlan's group of fugitive slaves, largely Chagrians, came into contact with and merged with other dissident groups. Calling themselves the Crimson Vipers (the colour chosen for its association with war in Chagrian culture), the group carried out sabotage and assignation against Sith-Imperial facilities and personnel.

On one such action, the Vipers encountered an Alliance force under Sergeant Ronval Rubat stranded behind enemy lines chased by Imperial forces. Almost on a whim, Forlan committed the Vipers in breaking the Imperial forces surrounding the RC-JOH team. They quickly formed a good working relationship and cut a deal with the Alliance: the Vipers used their network to coordinate attacks while the Alliance provided training and equipment. The joint operation with the RC-JOH team lasted for a year, cutting off several supply centres from Imperial control and aiding the war effort.

Finally free from the Sith, Forlan and the Vipers considered disbanding, but mistreatment of some populations at the hands of Imperial Warlords prevented them from doing so. Due to the détente between the Alliance and New Imperials, the GADF threatened to cut support for the group if they continued operations. Forlan cut a deal to relocate the Crimson Vipers to border worlds between the Alliance and NIO as a militia under the command of the GADF. With a heavy heart, most of the Vipers left Imperial space, and set up their headquarters on Champala to defend against both remnant Sith and rogue imperial warlords.

On Champala, the actions of Forlan and the story of the Vipers gained more and more popularity, helped by the fact that Forlan himself was Chagrian. At a time when the Alliance seemed content to give ground to the new Imperials, many on Champala saw Forlan and the [group] as brave volunteers willing to risk life and limb against those that, in their eyes, were incompatible with the Alliance's ideals and existence.

Over the years, the continued existence of an armed radical militia, even under GADF oversight, and Forlan's personal leadership was seen as a possible danger to the Champalan government and a source of dissension. Reading the writing on the wall, Forlan volunteered to step down from command of the Vipers to avoid disbandment. For the next few years, Forlan remained a private, though prominent, citizen. Seeing increasing Corporatist and Imperialist presences in the senate, he finally decided to run for the Federal Senate and won the seat for Champala.
