"There's no guarantees this yields any results,"
"I understand," Braze offered in reply.
He wouldn't throw a fit if this didn't work. There was a flicker of hope, a small ember buried deep, but he wasn't betting on it. In truth, he expected this to fail. Lately, things had felt increasingly bleak, his outlook shadowed by a cynicism that had crept in slowly. It had become harder to hold onto the bright-eyed idealism he once carried, even when he tried to offer his views, even when he tried to counsel others.
His gaze shifted to Corin, studying him with curiosity. Freed from the layers of grime and dust that once clung to him, he looked different now. Less like a wanderer lost in the storm, more like someone who had finally stepped out of it.
"I made this one for you. " Braze offered.
Braze reached into his sleeve and pulled out a small glass bottle, offering it out to Corin. It was teardrop-shaped, tapering into a delicate curve that fit easily in the palm. The surface was smooth and cool to the touch. A matte black label adorned the front with silver lettering standing out in subtle contrast that read
'Obsidian Rain'. The liquid inside was dark, almost an inky midnight blue with shimmering bits swirling with in, shifting subtly when moved, like a storm trapped beneath glass.
The top of the bottle was secured with a gunmetal collar sat at the neck, leading into a black mesh atomizer, adding an old-world touch against the otherwise sleek design.
The scent within was comprised of a rich blend that offered top notes of warm Clove laced with cardamom and a faint edge of elemi resin. The mid notes held an almost creamy leather accord, accompanied by a floral note of dark iris, and the deep, resinous scent of burning myrrh, rich and slightly smoky. The base notes held a woody sandalwood, accompanied by the earthy and masculine scent of vetiver root, and just a touch of sweetness brought out by tonka bean, that lingered softly like the last breath of a dying ember.
Braze shook his head gently seeing his adoptive sister.
" It's understandable all things considering. " he offered gently.
"But it's good to see you out and about. " he added. He knew very little about Phy in truth but he could understand and empathize with her grief over Jasper. He was however comforted by her presence that much came through his carefully guarded aura.
He looked up and stepped in when welcomed by Ran.
"Thank you kindly." He offered a dip of his head in a small bow in a sign of respect. He seemed well aware to mind his manners.
His fingers fussed at the edges of his sleeves in a nervous habbit of self soothing displacement activity before he carefully slipped free a small trinket from where it rested around his neck alongside two others, nearly identical in shape and size. Only one, slate blue-gray with a touch of jade green, which he moved to place down for examination.
"This is it." He murmured, casting an uneasy glance toward the green-skinned woman. His fingers lingered for just a breath longer before he let go of the trinket.
"I picked up a few of these charms on Eshan during the summer solstice. They come in pairs. You split them between two people. If both still have theirs, and they're alive, the charms stay warm to the touch. When you bring them together, they light up… kinda like a friendship bracelet, I suppose." Braze explained.
His hand drifted back to his sleeve, rubbing along the edge as he hesitated before continuing.
"This is my half of the set I got for Jasper and me. It's been a few years now since we got them."
There was no certainty that any of this information would help, but he laid it out nonetheless, his fingers still tracing the fabric in small, quiet movements.
