Private Footprints in the sand

Mugen was looking at it. "THat will be easier, to maximize the pumps neat the short and to give us the best location it would be the connecting part allowing us to use the cockpit as an observation platform. It will be able to look out and let us see the pods we are using as gates. With the rest of it forming the carrier forr a third water paddock we can use for other sealife we need to raise up to vary the proteins." He was going over it and the galley was where he was looking. "IT would also give us good access to the main cooking area reserves that we have now so we can transfer or minimize the travel time and exposure as we are walking."

Seren followed Mugen's explanation, glancing between the wreck and the camp beyond it, and gradually saw the arrangement he had in mind. Keeping the pumps near the shore made sense if they intended to maintain another water paddock, and using the cockpit as an observation point would give them a better view of the approaches without requiring anyone to stay outside just to keep watch. More importantly, the wreck would tie several things they had already built together instead of becoming another isolated part of the camp. "I like that better. It gives us another paddock without sacrificing the cockpit, and having somewhere sheltered to watch the gates would be useful." The possibility of raising something other than their current supply of sealife earned a thoughtful nod. "A little more variety in what we're eating probably wouldn't hurt either."

The galley might have been the part Seren appreciated most. Every trip between food storage, preparation areas, and where they actually ate created another chance for something to be dropped, contaminated, or thoroughly coated in sand. Putting the wreck somewhere that cut all that made the effort of moving it much easier to justify. "And if we're transferring most of the cooking supplies here anyway, keeping it close to the reserves saves us from carrying everything back and forth every time we cook." Seren looked over the section Mugen had indicated, considering the wreck less as salvage now and more as another structure they were adding to the camp. "It sounds like we've found its new home. Now we just have to get it there."

Mugen gave a nod of his head. "It does, we'll have to clean out more of this of everythign that is clinging around and get the water out as well but if we arre able to do it then we reduce problems. Nothing that can grow in standing water, work to clear away the mold and then we will be able to work on some more of it. With some fo the other ships we can do similat strip jobs. With the right works we will be able to do more and all of the raw material here will give me a lot of what I can use to try and salvage something for power and communications."

Seren looked around the interior again with Mugen's assessment in mind. Clearing the remaining water and whatever had taken advantage of the damp environment was considerably less exciting than discovering intact systems, but there was little point in salvaging a galley, refresher, or observation platform only to leave the wreck unhealthy to occupy. The possibility of eventually stripping the other ships for power and communications made the work here feel like the beginning of something larger as well. Every functioning component they recovered reduced their dependence on whatever limited equipment had survived with them, and communications in particular might eventually become considerably more important than another improvement to the camp. "If you can get enough from the other wrecks to give us reliable power and some kind of communications, I'd say that's worth quite a bit of unpleasant cleanup."

She glanced toward the remaining standing water, then looked back at Mugen. Seren could think of several ways the Force might speed things up, especially when it came to moving water, debris, or heavier pieces that would otherwise require several people, but Mugen understood the systems and what needed preserving far better than she did. "What can I do to help?" She gestured lightly around the compartment. "I can start getting the water out, move anything heavy you want cleared, or help strip out whatever isn't worth keeping. Just point me at something. You're much more likely than I am to know which pieces we shouldn't accidentally throw away."

"Right now we want to get anything organic out of the ship and as much water out as we can before. We can used some patches of sand to absorb the water and scoop it. Then dry it to move it away and we can work on pieces that are preserved to find use for them." Mugen was saying it as he went around the galley [p[[ing panels off of the walls to expose the interior controls and circuits. Fuel lines as well as the connectors that went around the ship and he looked at more of it. "We also likely have crawlspaces between the hull and floor to allow for repair droids that can be accessed albiet slowly or carefully to check what there is."

Seren nodded as Mugen clarified what they needed to do first, her attention shifting from the exposed panels to the damp floor and the grime that still clung stubbornly to parts of the galley. Clearing out the organic material before they trusted any of the interior spaces made sense, especially if mold or rot had already taken hold somewhere they couldn't immediately see. The suggestion of using sand to draw out the remaining water earned a thoughtful glance toward the beach beyond the wreck. It was hardly elegant, but elegant had stopped mattering a long time ago. "That sounds manageable. I can start with the water and anything obviously organic while you keep opening up the systems."

She stepped carefully around the exposed lines and connectors rather than risk putting a boot somewhere inconvenient, then looked toward the lower sections of the walls and floor when Mugen mentioned the crawlspaces. "And once we've got this section cleaned out, I can help check underneath." Seren glanced back at him with a faint smile. "I'm smaller than you, which may finally be useful for something." More seriously, she added, "If any of those spaces are partially collapsed or too tight to reach safely, I can move loose debris with the Force before either of us crawls into them. I'd rather not discover the hard way that something important is hanging on by one corroded bracket."

He gave her a nod while he and Jesse were working to open up parts of it. Jesse taking a moment as she did it to get some of the water with the force and she was pulling at it to slosh it and make it spill over and into the main area instead of the panels and the walls. Jesse moved as she was scrapping some off before making a pile to try and start with something. "There s a lot, we won't likely finish it all in one day but it will be able to be used and adjusted. I am just glad we can be inside and don't have to worry about sunburn forr most of us." She said it with a grin though as Guilia was moving through with some shell shards to scrap better and Mari was putting sand in some fo the water to move it.

Seren worked alongside the others instead of trying to draw all the water out at once, using the Force to coax smaller amounts away from the exposed circuitry and toward the areas where Mari could pack sand. Jesse's approach gave her a useful example, and once enough had collected away from anything they wanted to preserve, Seren shifted her attention toward the organic growth Mugen had identified as the more immediate problem. There was considerably more of it than she had appreciated at first glance. "I think trying to finish all of this today would probably end with us accidentally ripping out something Mugen wanted to keep." She smiled faintly as she added another scraped section to the growing pile. "Getting one area properly cleaned seems better than getting half the ship mostly cleaned."

Jesse's comment about the sun drew a quiet laugh from her. After so much of their work had involved heat, sand, water, or some combination of the three, simply having a roof overhead felt like an improvement worth appreciating. "I'll happily accept one project where the environment isn't actively trying to cook us." Seren glanced toward Guilia working with the shell shards and then Mari steadily dealing with the wettest sections before returning to her own patch. The work was slow, dirty, and unlikely to produce another exciting discovery every few minutes, but watching the galley gradually emerge from beneath everything the sea had left behind made its eventual usefulness easier to imagine. "Besides, once we get the galley clean enough to actually use, I think we'll forgive it for taking more than a day."

Jesse gave a nod of her head. "Which is why we have all day for the moemnt and it s still early." She offered a smile though when she was checking other parts. Scrapping it while mari was moving the sand and lifting it ocne the water was good and they had an infinite supply to eb able to work. Meanwhile Mugen was scrapping and going over the different systems. "These will jmp a lot of what I have been working on by leaps but more importantly it will also give me a better workshop then just hoping the sand and leaves do not catch firre unless needed. It will also give better lining for the kiln we are using. Hold more heat and burn hotter."

Seren paused long enough to look toward Mugen when he mentioned the workshop, then glanced around the exposed interior with a little more appreciation. Until now, most of what they had discussed involved what the wreck itself could become, but the materials they removed would apparently improve parts of the camp that already existed, too. A proper place for Mugen to work without constantly worrying about accidentally setting their surroundings on fire seemed particularly worthwhile. "A workshop where an accidental spark doesn't threaten half the camp sounds like a significant improvement." There was a trace of amusement in her voice as she returned to scraping away another stubborn patch of growth. "Especially considering how much we've started relying on everything you build and repair."

The improvement to the kiln interested her for much the same reason. It was another example of how the wreck was becoming useful far beyond simply giving them shelter. Better insulation meant more heat and, presumably, more possibilities for whatever Mugen and the others eventually wanted to make with it. Seren shifted another loosened clump toward the pile before looking back toward him. "It sounds like almost everything we strip out has somewhere useful to go." Her smile returned as she surveyed the amount of work still ahead of them. "That's making me feel considerably better about how long cleaning this thing is going to take."

"That is the goal, wasting what is here would prove the most dangerous part. We have no where to put it and leaving it out endangers the wildlife that we need for food. if they ate it and choked then they would rot or things could poison them and taint the meat." He said it while going over it. "Survival one oh one in some places but it is also what we need. Making it so that we will be able to get some forrm of power. I'll be able to do a lot more though in some things now. Even these panels would be better shaped for the water ways we have and we can work on hydro-electric power." Mugen was saying it as Jesse leaned back a little. "Though we might need to without power work something that will work like a vent for here."

Seren hadn't considered the discarded material from quite that perspective, but Mugen's explanation made the danger obvious enough. Anything they left scattered around the camp or shoreline could become somebody else's problem later, especially if local wildlife mistook it for something edible. Considering how dependent they had become on fishing and the creatures they were beginning to raise, poisoning their own food supply through careless salvage would be an especially foolish way to make survival harder. "Then finding a use for everything isn't only about being efficient." She worked another piece free and set it aside with the material they intended to keep rather than adding it indiscriminately to the debris. "The less we leave behind, the less chance we have of accidentally damaging the food supply we're trying to build."

The possibility of hydroelectric power made her glance toward the panels with renewed interest. Seren understood the principle considerably better than she understood the engineering required to turn salvaged ship components into a functioning system, but by now she trusted Mugen to know whether an idea was practical. Jesse's observation presented a much more immediate concern. With the wreck enclosed and eventually intended for cooking and workshop use, ventilation would matter long before they had reliable electricity to run anything sophisticated. "We probably shouldn't depend on powered ventilation anyway, at least not yet." She looked toward the walls and then higher along the structure, considering the problem without pretending to know the best solution. "Could we make something passive? An intake lower down and somewhere higher for the heat and smoke to escape?" Seren glanced between Jesse and Mugen. "You two would know better than I would where we could open it without compromising the hull, but I'd rather not turn our new galley and workshop into an oven the first time we use them."

"With the way it is some tears in the hull will not hurt it as much but yes we could set it up. It is all about that and likely use the engine room itself to have the stronger metals. It would be better for a kiln to work on equipment while the galley can be used for food and if there are morre wrecks we can salvage there would be a chance for more. Depending on the size and how they are able to be used we could stack them and connect several into their own defensive structures aside from just rooms or walls. I can foresee a lot more if we are able to do things." Mugen was looking at more of it and giving Jesse a few ideas to it... they might be able to change up other aspects of what they were facing.

Seren listened as Mugen's plans expanded beyond simply making the wreck habitable. Separating the kiln from the galley sounded sensible, especially if the engine room already contained materials that could tolerate much higher heat. She understood enough to follow what he was proposing, though the engineering involved remained firmly within Mugen's expertise rather than hers. "That sounds like a much better use for the engine room." She smiled faintly as she kept clearing the section in front of her. "And I'd certainly prefer keeping whatever you're melting or forging somewhere other than beside dinner."

The possibility of connecting additional wrecks made Seren glance around the hull with renewed appreciation. She wouldn't have looked at the half-submerged remains and imagined anything close to what Mugen described, but that was becoming a pattern. Every time they uncovered another intact section, he seemed to find several possible uses for it. "I think this is the first time being surrounded by wrecked ships has started sounding fortunate." A trace of amusement colored the observation as she scraped another stubborn patch free. "If we find more, I'll leave figuring out how to turn them into a settlement to you. I'm becoming increasingly convinced you see considerably more possibilities when you look at this stuff than I do."

Jesse gave a small look when she finished and stood for a moment looking over all of it. Mari was checking parts and Ginger returned with some food for them after all of it. The heat was there and Guilia could be heard as she was working on the hull and there were slits in it in areas now allowing light and air through as it could be felt and was like a light breeze that came through from the bottom and the top. Mugen was moving as he looked over more of it and the other rooms on the ship were beneficial to what they needed and would want to use. "That will help, just think of it like a puzzle and more pieces revealed the more we can do. If we set it up correctly we will be able to work on improving otherr areas for quality of life."
