Private Fool Me Once

Deep breath. Books were material possessions and material possessions were replaceable. The stare calmed down as Aeris let out a deep sigh and shook her head.

“Let’s just forget it.” She said and put her smile back on. “Jem, I understand rebellion, but… Please, do not take it out on the books. Some of them are very old.”

“And, I will try to give Saan’an more free time, but it will also have to be out of his own volition. If he wants to read more and so on, I will not stop him.”

Jem sat back in an explosion of energy, the tension dissipating.

"This is Saan'an we're talking about. He will always want to read." Well, at least she had tried. She should be able to relax a little more now that she had reached a mutual understanding with her brother's master, but all she could think about were those books and how she might smuggle them out before they were found.

She didn't think they were old books.

Saan'an would probably know.

"Thanks I guess... for trying though." A silence stretched out for a moment, an antsy twitch returning to her foot.

"Are you gonna make him you one day?"

“Well, no.” Aeris admitted with another slight chuckle. “I cannot force Saan’an to become anything, I just guide him in the direction of what I know, but he is free to make of that what he wishes.”

It was the truth. Saan’an could only ever be given guidance and advice along with some exercises. What he made of those three things was entirely his own. Aeris would never see to it that he was to become something other than what he wished to be.

“Are you going to become Dagon eventually? Because I doubt the NJO could handle two of him.”

A grin cracked over Jem's features.

"I'm trying," she swore, serious. She didn't know about the man's reckless tendencies, she only saw the side of him at Rhand-- calm, skilled, and doing flips over buildings.

"Hey while I'm here can you get me into the level 4 acrobatics' class? You need a Master's signature but I figure you're close enough." She plied. There was a reason you needed a Master's backing and they were nothing Aeris, on their first day of meeting, could vouch for.

Jem wanted to jump off buildings.

Well, be trained to.

A warm chuckle rumbled in Aeris throat. A deep, throaty breath followed...

"No. Definitely not." Aeris grinned and shook her head. "But I can ask Dagon to grant you the permission. He should have that right as your master."

"Why? Do you want to--" Long sigh. "He did something 'cool' with the force again, didn't he?"

Jem grinned wider.

"Was like ten stories and he caught us. ...Well, then he dropped us. But it was like nothing by that point." She leaned back and sighed, her smile slowly faltering as she came back around to the reality that she didn't even know where the jedi was.

Her worries over his intentions redoubled. Her desire to see her brother was slowly smothered with it.

"I think... I'm just gonna go," she reported without luster. She began to shove her training gear back into her duffle bag. "Do me a favor and... don't tell Saan'an about this?"

She was kinda done pining after other's time.

"He'll find me if he wants."

To hear another Padwaan retell something that Dagon had done was... Amusing. It especially made sense given that Jem was the man's apprentice. To see it was definitely something that reminded Aeris about the time she too had been in those shoes. It was one of those 'good times' that in reality wasn't all that good at all, merely simpler.

"I will do that, Jem." Aeris smiled and let the girl go. "And you, take care."

"If there is any books or texts that you need to find, my door is always open."
