Private Flames of Rebellion

Oh...

She didn't know.

Maybe it was best Jonyna was the one to break it to her.

"Back then? Probably not. Nowadays? I could probably take him. Fought Carnifex a few months ago, survived that. I think I could handle Vader now." Jonyna shrugged, letting out a sigh. "But...alright, might as well break the news to you. Those plans Rogue One were grabbing, you know what they were for, yeah? The Death Star? Some farmboy from Tatooine, Luke Skywalker, he stumbled across the station himself. Went to Rescue Senator Organa, who turns out, is his sister. He was discovered by Obi Wan Kenobi, who turned out was hiding on that barren rock as well. Later led the strike team to take down the Death Star, fired the final shot himself. Death Star goes kaboom, everything's dandy...then the Empire hits back. Kidnaps his friend Han Solo-" Jonyna lets out a snort, remembering the name was always funny to her. When she had met Han the first time, he was just some no-name smuggler out in Hutt Space. Of course he'd be the one to go on to bang a princess, make a name for himself.

"Lures Luke into a trap to fight Vader himself. Turns out, not only was Vader the disgraced Anakin Skywalker...but..." She made a hand gesture, as if to let the padawan link the two names together. It didn't take a genius to link to last names together like that... "Luke went on to become a jedi knight himself, took the glory we both wanted and overthrew the empire with the Rebels, and started the New Jedi Order that still continues to this day. I just call him Farmboy because he took all the credit for stuff people like us did. There's a whole lot more, plenty of twists and turns with Farmboy, but...he was the one destined for greatness. We had to wait 900 years. But we're here now, eh? Still kickin', still making our legends. Don't get too caught up in the past, kid. We're still alive, and that's what matters."

"He's the reason I lost my arm," Azurine said bluntly. It wasn't much of a fight, and frankly, they had never intended to run into Vader in the first place. She was lucky to have come out of that alive despite the mutilation she suffered because of it. If Kynn hadn't managed to carry her out of there, she wouldn't have, but they lost someone else in the process. The choice he'd been forced to make then had weighed on him, and she'd felt it. "I fully believed I was going to die that day, so waking up in a hospital bed was shocking."

She listened to everything Jonyna had to say on the subject. Of course, she had known what the plans were for then, and the idea of it had put terror in her soul. Valery had given her a summary, but names and specifics hadn't really been said or asked for at the time. She'd gone into much more detail here, which helped her piece the summarized events together more smoothly.

Though the name Anakin Skywalker had been familiar, probably someone Kynn or Baine talked about once in passing, but she hadn't known that he was Dath Vader then ... and her eyes went wide as everything slowly made more sense. He was the reason she'd lost her arm ... the reason she'd been tortured by an inquisitor whose goal was to turn her. She searched Jonyna's icy blue eyes for confirmation of the connections without having to ask and certainly received it.

"I'll be damned ..." she muttered the curse in Zabraki, leaning back and shaking her head. Clearly, she'd missed so much. At least everything they worked for at Scarif had provided the necessary information to bring such a machine down.

"You know, I was never in it for the glory, so I say let Farmboy have it. I'm glad he managed to push the movement to victory, so I respect that. I just wanted to make a difference in the galaxy. I was so tired of watching people suffer at the Empires hands, and I couldn't stand by and let it happen without trying to do something. And I made myself into one hell of a thorn in their sides, so I'd call that a success." A small, bittersweet smile cracked across her face. The past may be the past now, but it had made her into who she was today. That was something she'd never forget.

"900 years ... it's still hard to wrap my mind around some days," she paused, taking a deep breath to calm the trauma and guilt back into the recesses of her mind, then flashed a sly grin before craking a quick joke, "We're still looking pretty good for being in our 900's, huh?"

Jonyna's response was to snicker, and strike a pose. "Good enough for me to make it onto the cover of Rogue. I get it though, I had the same issue. Couldn't stand by and watch stormtroopers kick people when they were down. The Empire is bad mojo no matter what era you're in." Jonyna looked to Azzie with a cocky smirk. "But we can always hold it over them, we survived the first one. We won, they lost. And they'll keep losing. No matter what happens, no matter if we lose or win, we'll always have history. Vader died, Palpatine died, and the Empire died. We're the survivors."

Azurine laughed with Jonyna when she posed, almost falling over, "I haven't heard of that, but if you have a copy, I've got to see it!" She grinned. An aurora of purple and blue hues flashed through her eyes.

"Knowing the Empire, or any variation of them, is still here really grinds my gears," she said, shaking her head, "But I'm not gonna stop casuing a massive amount of hell for them while I'm still breathing. Whatever it takes, for the Alliance." She took a moment to enjoy the silence that came with the clear familiarity they had with each other, eventually turning and giving the master a quick hug. In her mind, they were comrades in arms once, and to her that camaraderie forged in war wasn't something time could break.

"Thank you, Jonyna. I'm sorry if I've wasted some of your time when I asked you to be here for training."

The quick hug turned into a longer one as Jonyna pulled the padawan in. "Hey, don't worry too much about them. I've been doing plenty to harass them. Empire of the Lost, Dark Empire, they all call themselves the same thing. Long as we keep at it, they'll have the same fate, yeah?"

Jonyna enjoyed the moment of contact with the padawan. Knowing there had been others, others doing the same thing she and her group had been, it brought some hope to her heart. Hope that there were others doing the same thing they had been back then.

"Don't worry about it." she chuckled as they broke. "I'm always happy to train the youngin's, and we rebel hearts gotta keep together. Stop by the Reaper sometime, I'll give you the tour. Show you some old trinkets I got. Let you take a swim in the pool."
