Private Flames of Rebellion

Coruscant Jedi Temple, Late Afternoon

After a long day of meetings, the Sentinel of Harmony was keen to finally get away. She had been requested for a training session with a padawan of....familiar origins. A rebel. Jonyna had done a bit more research during her meetings, something to fill the time during her dull moments.

Something about this one was annoyingly familiar. Had they known each other? Maybe just a brief run in? The Rebel Alliance was a lot bigger than she liked to admit.

As she entered the training dojo, Jonyna wondered what this padawan would possibly want to learn. She remembered her days learning with Giran, training under Sylvar and her mother. Back then, it was always so filled with adventure, she didn't think about the danger much. She didn't think about how every day they were being hunted, treated it all as a game. A thrill.

Being in the GA for so many years now put that all in perspective.

When Master Noble had told Azurine about Jonyna Si and how she too shared the struggles of centuries of stasis along with them, she hadn't realized then exactly how much the two shared in the way of their past. Even now, as she waited for the master finishing her own daily routine, she didn't know the specific. Only that they had that one thing in common, waking up to a galaxy that had long since moved past them while they'd been suspended in time itself.

She hadn't expected to have such a quick response, either, when she had put in a request to learn from her. She wouldn't admit it outloud, but part of the reason for it in the first place was because she felt so overwhelmed and crushed under the weight of the darkness that came with having everything she'd known ripped away from her, and the idea of there being more who'd survived such things than just her and Valery brought her another booey to grip onto in a tossing tsunami threatening to drag her under completely.

She'd felt the aura approaching long before she'd seen the woman, taking a pause and letting her amethyst eyes drift closed to gather as much information as she could from it. The strength in the force was undeniable, mirroring the brightness of her own but with the sense of control that hers still lacked. Her emotions were centered and steadfast. By the time she opened them again, the doors of the dojo had slid open for her to enter.

Azzie moved from her position atop a pretty high up platform. She'd been warming up by practicing her swift parkour skills that she'd learned and developed in her childhood stealing and running from the Imperials. Jumping down with grace and the aid of her channeling the force into body to do so, though she stumbled on her footing at the end, at least she knew how to recover from it rather well and hoped that it hadn't been too noticeable.

"Master Si," She said, giving a quick bow that looked a bit awkward doing it in all honesty. She was still getting used to all the formalities that she'd never used back when most of her training had been informal, kept as hidden as possible, and consisted of mostly hands-on learning prior to being awoken by Valery. "Thank you for taking the time to work with me."

"Oh Sylvar, please, don't do that." Jonyna laughed as the padawan bowed before her. "So you were a rebel, huh?"

That was the question of the day, for her. She'd done her research, now she wanted to know. Had they met before? She certainly didn't recognize her, but that could mean a bunch of things. All the places they could've. Ryloth, Home One, Tatooine...

She thought back to Giran, the raggedy man he was. Back when they were padawans, keeping hidden was all that was allowed. All that kept them alive.

She paused, letting out a breath. Maybe she was focusing on this too much. "What can an old cat teach you, rebel?"

Azurine gave a bit of a wild grin and a sigh of relief, "Oh thank god. All of the formalities are starting to weigh on me."

Clearly, Jonyna had no interest in beating around the bushes here when it came to her past. Her smile faltered a little bit, and her remaining biological arm raised to rub at the metal prosthetic that had replaced her right one. Her clothing covered just how far up that metal went, attaching to the scar tissue of burnt edges that were signature tell tale signs from a wound of another saber. It had only been a few weeks since she'd been pulled out of her hybernation and brought here after all.

"Yeah, I was. Spent some time in the Partisans before that, but I couldn't keep justifying their behavior to myself," she started. She was unsure exactly what time Jonyna had come from, but given the question, she was beginning to feel a small surge of hope that maybe, somehow, they had been displaced from the same era. "We ran The Hole base on Utapau, provided some of the security for the Corellian Treaty summit, but uh ... I can't say it went as we hoped."

A shudder went down her spine when she remembered everything that happened that day, the day she was tortured, lost her arm, and came face to face with pure evil in the shape of a man. Hopefully, that might provide some context for the Master before her given she was looking at her as if maybe they had seen each other before. Hell, there was definitely a chance they had without even realizing it.

Azzie took a moment to collect herself, trying not to look as beaten down and conflicted as she truly felt. It was a good thing for her that her curiosity was something that never waned, so when she was asked, her face sparked with it, "My master, Valery Noble, told me that you use the force to manipulate fire. I didn't even know that was possible, and I thought that maybe, if you're willing to teach me, I could learn it as well?"

...

That's where she had heard of it.

"Fark, you ran The Hole?! I always meant to stop by there. I used to run the sect out of Ryloth. Tenacity Squad. We helped launch Home One when Dac got blockaded."
Jonyna laughed. "You ever run into any Inquisitors?"

This was nice. Seeing someone of her era, of her background. She kinda wished Val hadn't gotten to her first. Jonyna would've loved to train this one as her own. Then again, that might be weird. "You ever have any teachers back in your day? I just had a Force Ghost on Ryloth and my mom who turned out to be a retired Jedi Shadow."

Then the subject of why they were actually here came up. Right, don't get distracted by nostalgia Jonyna. They're a master, and they're a padawan. It doesn't have to be any different than anyone else.

"Yeah, I can teach you. Kinda learned it on accident myself. Was chasing down a moff on a speeder, he had a scientist we were trying to knab off the Empire. One moment I'm running after it in vein, the next I've got fire shooting out of my feet sending me flying into the air."

Azzie could only stare for a moment in wide-eyed wonder, muttering a couple of exhasperated but excited curses in Zabraki. "Oh shit, that was you?! Raeth had a meeting with Fulcrum and Tenacity Squad about offering our fighters, but I think we kind of got caught up elsewhere then. We still celebrated it, though, what a power move!" The grin that took over her face, even if it was still a little marred by her pain, was as bright as the fire that blazed through her violet eyes.

"Yeah, I was one of the ten founders of the group from the Outlyer crew. Lyer three, at your service," she chuckled and gave a quick salute, though her mind circled to the crucial fact that Lyer two, Lyer three, and Lyer eight would have been reported killed in action aiding with the tragedy of Scarif and her chuckle tapered off a bit.

Her expression became a bit more hardened at the mention of inquisitors, and she clenched her hands at her sides. "The Thirteenth Brother ..." she said softly, nodding. "He wanted to take me alive, something about having untapped raw power that their lord would want ..." she understood the implications of what was said and how dark the confession was, but it had been dark times that they lived through then, especially for a young jedi apprentice.

"I uh, I did, actually. Lyer 2, Kynn. He'd survived the great purge and took me in even though he wasn't much older than I was at the time." Her words even quieter now at the mention of Kynn, a couple of tears managed to slip down her face that she quickly and desperately wiped away. Their dyad kept them tied together even after his death, his soul still so tied to her own that trying to sever that bond would very likely result in her own death as well. His presence was still there with her at that moment, and their connection was clear and hard to miss in her own aura, ever present.

Would you prefer if I showed myself?

The force ghosts voice whispered against Azzie's ear when she had let the pause linger too long made her flinch. Whether he meant well or not didn't matter. She didn't get the chance to solidify a response before the conversation was brought to the training.

"That's so cool. Can you show me?" She asked, trying to pour all of her focus into her curiosity.

Jonyna couldn't help but smile to hear the stories of old. Her past life was behind her, something she tried not to focus too hard on now, especially with her love of the world she had found herself in. But still, it was nice to reminisce. "Raeth..." She pondered. I don't think I met him, he would've talked to our pilot Zash. She was the one who looked like cooked bacon. Piloting accident, tragic story. You'd know her if you saw her. Never took off her orange jumpsuit." Jonyna chuckled, as she let the padawan continue her story.

The Thirteenth Brother...

"You shouldn't worry about him too much. I put Sally through his chest." She said with a bit more serious tone, grabbing the white clothed hilt of her katana, and drawing the blade enough to show it's silver and black blade. "Those inquisitors never expected me to be rocking a blade made of Cortosis. It's saved my butt a few times now since coming out of the ice. You gotten the chance to check out the requisitions office? I think Elias Edo Elias Edo runs it now, we've got a few tricks my company made to help jedi out these days. And I'm always willing to help out a fellow jedi if you want something custom."

The Jedi Master paused, sensing something in the Force. Another presence. This padawan wasn't alone. Then again...

Jonyna's hand idly moved from the hilt of her katana to the silver and wooden tube that was her primary saber. Jonyna admittedly didn't talk to her mother all that much anymore, but it was always comforting to remember she was there. Maybe one day the two could share a moment with this padawan as well.

But Jonyna wouldn't force it. This girl would tell the whole truth one day, if only Jonyna could earn her trust. For now, they would train.

"Of course."

Jonyna's hand shifted away from her saber hilt, and lifted in front of her. With a snap of her fingers, a small flame ignited in the air just about her fingertips. "Pyrokinesis, it's all about what you need. I need to show you how this works, I needed to catch up to that speeder. Wants, they're so fleeting. I want food, I want to go take a nap, but I can live without those things. A need is more...urgent. Something you can't live without. To channel flame, is to channel those needs. To harness them through the Force. In Cathar culture, the Force is alive just as much as you and me, and it's always listening. Always wanting to help. If you ask it nicely...it'll do some amazing things for you. Like help you teach someone you wished you could've met sooner."

There was an informal kindness to Jonyna's voice that couldn't be escaped. Once upon a time, Odfrex, their crew's Trandoshan muscle, described Jonyna's voice of 'sounding like a childhood friend'. It was calm, measured, and humble. And kind. Oh so kind...

Azurine smiled a bit sadly, "Must have been a different one who took up the name later, or before maybe. I-we-" she struggled so hard to find the words. She hadn't discussed the more intimate details with anyone yet, she hadn't even shared all of them with Valery, and if she played her cards right, she could continue to avoid it here, "He died on his flagship one system over from Scarif. Kynn made sure of that."

Darkness passed through her eyes like thick smoke, dulling the brighter, vivid violet shades in them. She doubted she had to say much more on the subject if any of the other things she'd said already could be used as context. Her gaze moved from Jonyna's saber, having her her curiosity and awe as she stared at its design, to her own, which was tied to her belt via a small leather chord. It was clearly haphazardly made, very likely from old rickety parts, and discolored in some places from nine centuries of time passing. She'd never gotten the opportunity to build one of her own. All she had was the one Kynn had built for her and an old vibrosword.

She then turned her attention to the newer prosthetic that was her right hand, looking at the coating on the forarm and back of the hand. It was definitely nicer and less ancient looking than the one she had been found with. "Kaleleon said he'd made the plating here on this part of my arm from Cortisis to used as a shield. I'm hoping it holds up."

With that, her attention was brought directly back to instruction, lighting a spark through her eyes once more. She paid close attention, listening intently and grinning wide the moment the flame appeared across the masters fingertips.

"Awesome."

"A need is more...urgent. Something you can't live without. To channel flame, is to channel those needs."

Her words echoed in Azzie's mind. Though it made sense, fire being such a powerful and urgent force of nature, she didn't quite know how she could force a need in a moment of stillness or relative peace. "What if you can't find the difference between something you'd like and something you need to be able to turn a thought to that direction?" She asked the question without really thinking to much about it, but once it left her lips, she realized the implications of it, and she sighed. The inner turmoil she still held was hard to quell, leaving her reeling as to what the difference between the two really was anymore.

Azzie's smile faultered in confusion at Jonyna's following words. It was so kind and so caring. It was hard to ignore. Somehow, just like with Valery, Kahlil, and Anneliese, it managed to pick up a small piece of her broken soul and stitch it back into place. "It was just me and Kynn back then. We ran into a couple more here and there across the galaxy, but it... never lasted long. Too bad we never got to sit down for a drink with you." Her voice was sincere, yet contained a twinge of bittersweet sadness.

She turned her attention inward, though she held her hand out and closed her eyes trying to focus on the words Master Si had given to her.

What do you need ... she searched her thoughts desperately to find something she might be able to identify without any doubt.

I need to see this through. I need to hold onto my promises. I need to find myself again.

With her eyes closed, she didn't notice the small smoke filtering up from the center of her hand, until it finally sparked alight. Small, threatening to fade with even a small blow of air, but still there.

Jonyna shook her head and let out a chuckle. "Those inquisitors were pretty often to reuse names. Probably was a different one." The Jedi Master, eyeing the padawan, knew better than to push. The younger of the two would share when they felt comfortable. However, her eyes did wander to the padawan's cobbled together lightsaber. "My saber didn't always look like this. Back when I first made it, it looked a lot like yours. Scrap thrown together to make a home for a crystal my mom gave me. I could help you upgrade your saber if you want. You'll need it if you wanna survive these days."

It was the same advice Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble had told her when she first came into the new era, after a solid humbling in the dojo. "Things aren't like how they used to be. Stormtroopers aren't the chit shots they used to be, and the sith don't hide in the shadows anymore. They wield monstrosities and powers that'll knock you flat on your ass. We need to be ready with powers of our own, even if that means we need to up our game from the old days."

Jonyna let out a sigh, shaking her head as Azurine spoke her next words. "Trust me, I get it. It was just me and my boyfriend Giran. He was a padawan that escaped the purge, like your friend. Went around parading himself saying he was a master when I first met him." She let out a snort. "I think he was just trying to impress me. But...I get it. There's days I wish I could go back to ambushing imperial columns on Ryloth."

The master watched as the padawan closed her eyes, and slowly answered her own question. What was a need?

Something you want more than anything. Something you can't live without.

A spark of inspiration. A flame of passion.

Azzie took a deep breath, listening to Jonyna's words as she worked on putting the technique into practice. When she opened her eyes, the excitement that started in them faultered as she watched the little flame fade away into smoke. A success is a success, though. Even if it was a small one, it was a start. At least she hoped.

"Kynn never boasted. Heck, I didn't even know he was a jedi at first. He was always so gentle, compassionate, forgiving... a strong fighter but reserved. You might have liked him."

She then turned her attention once again to her lightsaber and the generic vibroblade hanging from her belt. Though she knew she would eventually have to build her own lightsaber and take the journy to find her crystal like she had been told all those years ago (even if they never really had the oppertuinty to do so in that time), they were all she had and had worked pretty well for her up until now. Her lightsaber, in particular, she didn't know if she could bear to alter much. She pulled it from the makeshift chord she'd fashioned for it and held it forward so the master before her could look at it.

The cryastal within was not originally hers, that much was clear. And the craftsmanship was of high quality, especially considering how it had been put together with what looked like junk parts, probably scap from old starships, and how very weathered it was after many centuries.

"Kynn made this ... the crystal he had gotten from his master before he gave it to me" Azzie finally said, her voice soft, "It's the only thing I have left of him that's both here and physical." She hoped that that would be enough to explain her hesitation at the idea of pulling it apart to completely redo it.

7VaB1in.png
TAG: Azurine Varek Azurine Varek

Jonyna smiled, responding by pulling her own saber off her belt, and telekinetically lifting it in front of her, slowly disassembling it as she had done tiome and time before. "My mother is gone. The crystal she left me, it's all I have left of her." Revealing as the blade slowly came apart, a crystal that shined a bright ruby floated in the air. "The blade it had been a part of, it had been made by my fellow jedi Giran Thracker. When I came to this new time, I let that part of my life go. Rebuilt the saber to honor myself, but also him. He would've wanted me to have the best chances at surviving, and that included having the best saber I could make. This crystal, it's been passed down fifteen generations in my family. It wasn't mine to find, it was mine to be gifted. So I get it. But...wouldn't Kynn also want you to have the best chance of survival? You can keep his crystal, of course keep it, but the saber itself should be yours. A reflection of who you are, not what your past is."

Listen to her, Azzie. She's right. I never intended for you to keep it completely as it was, and your life should not be called into question because of it.

Azurine took a moment to watch the saber Jonyna had revealed float through the with the cryastal exposed. She had never had the opportunity to be taught how to do such a thing, and she realized how woefully unprepared she was if hers even malfunctioned in the slightest. She didn't blame him, though. He had done everything in his power to give her the tools she needed for the time they lived, and she knew he had always meant to teach her this, but with everything they had been up against it was never the biggest priority.

"It's beautiful." The crystal exposed from within had such a different song to sing than her own, but it was a lovely tune nonetheless.

She looked at her own saber, chuckling dryly a bit at how she'd never even seen it disassembled before and certainly didn't know where to start. That was something better left taken to Master Noble, and soon apparently.

"How? How did you manage to be so willing to change it like that, after everything?" she asked, trying to figure out some kind of specific thing that she could do to somehow set her world right again. She had hoped that she'd be able to just keep going without disruption, but that just wasn't the case. Everything she did was colored by the overwhelm associated with being so thoroughly displaced in time. So much of herself had been tied to the concepts she'd enbodied during the rebellion, and without it, it still felt like a giant chunk of her soul had been lost along with it.

When the question was asked, Jonyna just let out a long, hearty laugh. She laughed, and laughed, before finally settling and answering with a simple sentence.

"I got my ass kicked by Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble . He taught me that these days, a scrap saber and a stolen imperial blaster isn't enough to keep yourself alive. It's what my crew would've wanted, it's what my mom would've wanted, and it's what I wanted. Spending so long working with stolen and scrapped together tech with the Rebellion, then going to...all this." She gestured to the temple around them. "It felt only natural to use what the Force had given me. You should too."

Azurine looked up with confusion, though only really startled for a moment. She cracked a smile, followed by her own laughter right along with Jonyna. She'd only barely seen Kahlil in combat thus far, if the Ginnthos on Utapau could be considered much of a fight, but she was incredibly adapt at viewing and reading force auras (that weren't her own at least), being able to visually see in color the shifting patterns and spikes of emotions as well as their sheer power, and Kahlil sure had a lot of it from what she could tell. That definitely made a lot of sense to her.

"They really were bad shots back then, weren't they," she said, cackling. They could get away with so much using only whatever they had available to them then. It was certainly a resourcefulness as well, but the average imperial combatant frequently missed. Her personal thought was that their blasters were just crappy.

"I know you're right. I almost didn't have my prosthetic replaced, but Valery insisted. It's just ... hard sometimes. Overwhelming, really. I'm not used to seeing so many force users at all or having access to technology that I didn't have to fight like hell to get hold of. Like everything has gone on without me and I dont understand all the changes. I ... never actually learned how to build one myself. There were always other things that took priority."

For a moment, she wondered why she was sharing so much here, so openly, like she had with Val in a way. It was so easy with them, and she felt understood in a way that had become so hard to find.

"What else can be done with pyrokinesis?" She finally asked after a bit of a pause, her curiosity coming full circle like it tended to do. A side effect of her narurally fiery nature. She was a rebel after all, thinking outside the box and off the wall plans that had her flying by the seat of her pants was one of specialties, so she wondered just what else could be done.

7VaB1in.png

"You'll learn." Jonyna said simply. "How to trust everyone, how to utilize all the best tech the GA and NJO has to offer. How to use the Force to it's best ability. Trust me, I did. And I'm happy to teach you plenty. Including..."

As if to answer Azzie's next question, Jonyna's feet erupted with flame, sending her rocketing into the air, before she backflipped mid-air, and bounced off the ceiling, before flipping again and landing with ease behind the padawan. "Once you get the hang of it, using flame to assist in Ataru is an excellent way to keep your opponents guessing. Your body is your toolbox as a jedi. Flame can come from anywhere on it, so long as you're clever. Use it to propel yourself, to keep an enemy at bay, to enhance your saber..." Jonyna grabbed her saber, rebuilt in a split second, and ignited it. The ruby blade suddenly spit flame from it's length, Jonyna twirling it as it trailed in a blazing display. "Or something as a light. But, I suggest you first learn something simple." Jonyna smiled, deactivating her saber, and holding out a hand. Suddenly, the whole hand ignited, though Jonyna seemed entirely unphased. "How not to burn yourself. You can ask Val for help, she's been using flame just as long as I have. Technically longer."

Azurine couldn't help the smile at just how blunt Jonyna was with her, but in a way that was less gentle and reminded her so much of some of the people she'd considered family back in the Rebellion. It was extremely refreshing, made her feel more at home than she was expecting. It made her wish that they had met all those years ago. The stories they could have shared, the trouble they could have gotten into together. The thought alone made her chuckle. Now was as good of a time as any, she supposed. There were plenty of stories that could be told, and many to make.

Her violet eyes went wide before she could even say anything more, watching the master blast up to the roof, flip around, and end up behind her. Her battle precognition reacted on instinct, even if she knew she wasn't in danger, and she whipped around quickly to face her once again. Her gaze sparkled with fascination and excitement. As someone whose fight training from an early age consisted of Iridonian traditional tactics that had been designed to keep enemies on their toes by not letting anyone be able to predict your moves and striking as swiftly and powerfully as possible, Ataru had been her go to. "Amazing."

Knowing this was possible opened so many doors in her mind. She was so used to having to come up with on the fly plans and creative solutions with the few tools she had that the possibilities for what she could do with this power seemed almost endless if she tried hard enough and put in enough practice.

"I wonder if-" she muttered to herself before taking a moment to concentrate. She tried to find the proper way to put the phrasing in her mind before it finally came to her as she looked at the target across the room.

I need to hit that target.

She focused on that thought, allowing the connection to flow through. A long, thin flame, not very bright, still clearly able to be snuffed out by a quick blow of wind, shot out from her hand like a whip. It didn't reach where she wanted, but she needed to be able to give herself a challenge, or she wouldn't be able to convince herself that it was a need.

Of course, she only had time to enjoy it for a moment before she inwardly cringed from the pain and the fire dissapated completely. She'd put so much effort into her idea that she hadn't quite taken into account what Jonyna had said about not being burned. She glanced at her glove that was singed and had some pieces missing and the skin there a little pink. Not a burn that would leave a mark or hurt for long (likely because it wasn't that strong of a flame) but still there.

"Don't burn myself ... got it." She repeated, putting a small amount of energy into enhancing her already quick natural healing for the pink of the skin to fade. Rather than try anything else, she decided to put that thought into her brain instead. Hold the fire, don't burn, trying to follow her instructions more closely without getting ahead of herself again.

"It'll take time, don't rush yourself. I spent about 6 months after arriving here just honing my skills with the Force, learning whatever I could from the temple archives I never had access to. Go digging into the holocrons on pyrokinesis if you ever need more guidance. Farmboy's order did a ton of research on it, and there's some 'crons that go back to before the purge even. I've even got a bot on my ship that can mimic the styles of older masters. Obi Wan, Anakin, Windu, all that kinda stuff. You'd be surprised how much you can learn from old recordings." Jonyna chuckled, before eyeing the vibrosword at Azzie's hip. "You know, if you wanted I could upgrade that too for you. I got a knack for sword crafting."

Azurine turned her ineard attention back outward, listening as closely to Jonyna's words as she possibly could. She was right. They had access to all of this information they never had back then. She'd never even gotten to set foot on Coruscant until now because it could have been a death sentence for someone like her then. Though she had only heard those names in passing, they still made her eyes widen with a hint of excitement. She'd have to go digging for these older records.

"I've been spending a lot of time in the library. Usually when I can't sleep," she said, not realizing how her words indicated her difficulty sleeping until after they'd already been spoken, "It's as massive as Kynn used to say about it."

She hesitated for a moment, her gaze falling to her vibrosword. She honestly didn't think this old thing could be upgraded to a point that it would still be usable given that she'd gotten it and it's second blade that had broken long ago off of a mercenary back when she had been a Partisan. "I don't think there's any saving this one, but it deserves to go down in a blaze of glory someday after everything it's been through," she chuckled a little bit at the thought, "I wouldn't necessarily say no to something new, though. Well ... if you're offering at least."

Azzie paused, her eyes still resting on the blade at her side. A twinge of longing flashed through her amethyst eyes, making them gleem with a greyish smokey color for a moment.

"Have you ever thought about what life might have been like if you hadn't gotten thrown out of time ...?" she asked the question before she could really stop herself. It was a thought that seemed to cross her mind far too often than she would like. It was a stupid question, and she knew that, but maybe she was hoping that she wasn't alone. Valery understood, and that helped so much more than she could have hoped for, but she also needed to hear it from someone who'd lived the exact same war she had.

"I can work out some ideas. If you ever wanna spar with Aris Noble Aris Noble or Rayia Si Rayia Si , come by my ship. I'm parked right in the hanger bay with the old Imp ship painted in rebel colors." Jonyna chuckled, before blinking at her next question.

What would she had done had she not gone in the ice? Oh Sweet Sylvar, she hadn't thought about that in ages...

"...I had plenty of plans. Marry my two loves, overthrow the Empire, fight Vader..." Jonyna let out a low chuckle. "Didn't even know about Palpatine. Probably would've gotten my butt kicked by those two. But...my plan was to start my own order. Grandmaster Si, that's what they would've called me. It was...a pipe dream. Farmboy Skywalker had the better claim anyways to the legacy of the jedi, and I was just some vagabond calling myself one. Don't think we would've gotten along anyways."

Jonyna took a seat, giving Azzie a smile, that sort of bright smile you give a childhood friend. "Pop a squat. I think we earned a breather for now. I think I would've just continued doing what I was gonna do anyways. Fighting the good fight. But...that's all what if. I don't think too much about what ifs nowadays. Think too much on what could happen, you lose sight of what is. That's what gives us Rebels our edge, yeah? That...spontaneity!"

Azurine couldn't help but chuckle a little bit, "I guess you missed the show, huh? Hotshot is one hell of a fighter. Taking him down took a lot. I think that was the first time since I got here that I had that much fun." She still had the bruise from her little spar with Aris Noble Aris Noble on her chest. Hopefully, she'd get the chance to thank him for it later, feeling like she owed it to him for the respect.

Her thoughts turned to confusion for a minute, "Farmboy Skywalker?" The question came out before she could stop it. She knew it had to be someone who'd come around after she'd been locked into stasis, given she'd never heard that name before. Knowing that, she sighed, finally meeting Jonyna's eyes again. Her purple gaze held the depths of what she was thinking and fear she had to speak it, but it needed to be said. Only Valery and Kahlil knew most of the situation. It was about time she let it out to someone else.

She took a seat next to the master, her eyes moving between the floor and her while she gathered the strength to speak about what she'd avoided putting into words since Valery had found her.

"I uh ... I never saw the Battle of Yavin that everyone uses as the time measurement. When Rogue One had made contact about having gotten the plans but needed a way to transfer them, my team had been sent to a nearby system to keep a fleet there from answering any distress signals when others went to Scarif itself. Kynn ... he ..." she wiped the back of her hand across her face to desperately hide the forming tears, "He sacrificed himself to make sure our plan worked and the flagship got destroyed ... and he knew I'd never let him do it alone. So, I was frozen. Everyone thought I died with him."

Her lip quivered as she looked at her hands and then her lightsaber, "I always thought that maybe ... maybe when the war ended, we could have helped rebuild his order together. I thought we ... could have a life together someday outside of the war."

Azzie tried not to look as small as she felt, doing her best to take in deep breaths. Guilt seeped into her mind. This was not necessarily what she had wanted to do here today, and she felt awful for wasting Jonyna's time like this when the intent had been to learn.

Her eyes widened, though, when her brain finally processed the mention of Darth Vader. She could still hear the deep mechanical breathing and the dark laughter in her nightmares sometimes. Her hand instinctively reached to brush against the mechanical right arm, cringing from the phantom pain brought back at the thought of the day she'd lost it. It left her her grapsing the metal until her fingers went numb. "You really didn't want to face the Devil ... trust me," she said, clenching her eyes shut tight against the memories. As much as she missed the life she'd been ripped away from, that encounter was one she could only wish would go away.
