Name: Firr Tree

Homeworld: Kashyyyk

Development Thread: [When / If required.]

Average Measurements: 50 m tall, Diameter 61 cm, Weight 2721 KG

Cultivation Requirements:
Can be grown in many environments, but must be kept in a cool climate. Must be at least lightly watered. Over watering can suffocate the roots. As the tree grows in the poles of Kashyyyk where its large trees are thinner they often receive more direct sunlight. A mix of sand and loam is best for these trees. Organic mulch such as sphagnum can help the trees grow. The plant needs at least a little carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to breathe.

Distinctions: The plant is bare of most physical features throughout the year, but when it blooms glowing lights bud from its tips and pines grow all over its bare branches. The glowing lights are its seedlings. It purifies eco systems rather well. Clearing pollution away relatively easily and putting back out more breathable air. It does this by using the pollution to breathe. It can survive on large amounts or it can survive on small amounts of pollution. It breathes in the monoxide via its pines. When they "breathe" out they relase breathable atmosphere into the air.

Strengths:

The wood of Kashyyyk grown trees is extremely tough (Even space worthy)

This tree is very pretty to look at

Weaknesses:

The tree needs a cool environment to live

The tree will die if a ring is carved out of its bark

Average Growth Cycle: 1 year

Average Life: It can live up to 100 years and retains freshness for up to 3 months once harvested for planks

Nutritional Value: None

History: Much like most of the flora of Kashyyyk no one truly knows how it got there. Some believe it was created by the Rakatans to celebrate some unknown holiday. Others speculate it has always been native to Kashyyyk, but not even the Wookiees truly know where The Life day trees comes from. It has been a part of the Wookiee’s celebration since the beginning of the holiday. As a result it is comonly refered to as the life day tree. The trees bloomed around the time of the occasion and the Wookiees believed it to be a sign from their gods. They traveled from all over the planet to lay offerings beneath its branches.

When the Empire came around these trees were drove almost to extinction. They burned the sacred Flora at Palpatine's order. Believing the flora to be a sign of dissidents and blatant rebellion. A few Wookiee chieftains saved some of the precious seeds and planted them within their own villages keeping the trees secret until the Empire could be overthrown. When the rebellion began to beat back the Empire almost every Wookiee house hold sported these trees openly as a sign of freedom.

So, began the Tradition of decorating a life day tree within one’s household. Instead of gifts to the gods they layed out presents for each other and the Life Day tree became a universal sign of caring and love. The tradition grew throughout the galaxy. Slowly people everywhere began to put trees up in their homes. Despite all of the terrible happenings that have wracked our galaxy the life day tree is the one good one everyone remembers.

Intent: To create a species of tree for life day

Submissions for the Life Day Holiday Challenge may only be submitted to the NPC section of the Codex - being a species, this sub will not be considered when selecting winners. You can still, though, submit this species normally and then use it for your NPC challenge sub pending it's approval.

Knowing this, would you still like for this submission to be judged?

Please elaborate on what the glowing lights really are (as they're not electronic, surely),how it purifies ecosystems, and clears pollution.

This trees high output of natural atmosphere (Breathable gases) Make it possible to breathe in space. If only for a short time.
Please clarify what you mean by this.

I'd also like for you to change both of your weaknesses, as both the first one is pretty universal and apparent with flora, and the second is clarified in another section. Some things to add might be: A weak immune system, which often inhibits growth and prevents them from reaching full size, or Can only survive in certain climates or temperatures (please specify), and any changes in them would almost surely result in death

Additionally, five years is quite a short time for a flora of this size. With such a short life span, I'd like for you to elaborate on it's reproduction. Furthermore, you say that it's lifespan is three months once harvested. Why would the tree be harvested if it offers no nutritional value?

If the species predates Life Day as a holiday, it's probably best

Please add another paragraph to this, if only bringing us up to speed with Chaos' timeline.

If the species predates Life Day as a holiday, it's probably best to change the name of the species to something else, and then you can say that it is commonly referred to as a Life Day Tree.

A mix of sand and loam is best for these trees. Organic mulch such as sphagnum can help the trees grow.
How does this work with the trees being found in cold pole regions of Kashyyk?

I'm not just here to judge, but to guide as well!
Normally I'd be more stringent with species submissions, but because it's relative simplicity and purely aesthetic function, I'm going to chalk this up to pending. Nice work.

Approved pending secondary.
