Operations: While small and isolated the Firebirds are fighters, with new allies who have pushed them in a direction to use and make deals with the people they are protecting. For access to construction, manufacturing and supplies that they would be abel to use. While their main goal and drive is to fight, gain recognition and improve their influence they understand the need to fund those endeavors through networking. In this case protection efforts where they will be taking a cut from the profits of the mining and manufacturing faciltiies within the rift itself to fund their development of new equipment.
Rationale: Created during the time of the Old Republic, the Firebirds were more of a social club, founded to aid in the progression and protection of its members. With the rise of the empire they came to more prominence but they also started to become more organized. With the Dark Ages and piled on diasters in the galaxy the Firebirds have become an isolated group operating within the Chiloon Rift using the bubble of the Lost and the environment to manufacture their own equipment and ships working protection rackets with the Miners and smugglers who come to the Rift.

With the fall of the One Sith where alongside the likes of Venefica the Firebirds had been contacted previously. Coming for a short time out of the Rift and aiding the sith lords as they needed it but eventually just returning into it. The isolated rift being a place they could operate the facilities for their own uses making ships, weapons and equipment. Their protection of the facilities having in the contract that they have access to maintain and service their ships at a reduced cost. For the people who make a living in the Rift who generally don't care for outsiders it is considered a beneficial deal being protected by their own people.
Then within the Firebirds themselves there is the leadership that was visited and began to work with Balaya in secret. Her visits to the Rift becoming more frequent as she set up a small sanctuary there in the remains of an old base in one of the less traveled locations. Using the isolated Rift's interior to her advantage and searching to work with the Firebirds in improving upon their weapons, armor and ships. The sith lord let them hide her, a quid pro quo situation of them giving her a means to get materials and build up herself while not having to go out into public or among others.
The Firebirds themselves as a military organization have been taken with a grain of salt. Avoiding joining every Imperial or government to offer themselves and instead with some prodding and goading from Balaya instead have been organizing as a means to strike it out and recruit for themselves. After centuries of just being part of something a chance for them to make their own way forward and push into the galaxy with the aid of allies that are not expected and considered lost to history like themselves. Balaya's other influence has brought two other groups to helping them in the shadows developing part of what makes them more dangerous.
