BACKGROUND

The smoking ruins of a nameless Outer Rim homestead offered no shelter for a child. When a pirate raiding party tore through the frontier colony, the boy who would become Ferrin Dorn didn't freeze; he ran into the dense, encroaching briars. For three weeks, he survived on raw roots, instinct, and a stubborn refusal to die, clutching a jagged, scratched piece of metal from his family's civilian transport.

He was found by an Iron Covenant tracking cell. Impressed by the starving boy's resilience, the Mandalorian scouts took him aboard the Mythos Fleet as a foundling. He took the name "Dorn", an old word meaning "thorn" to signify his stubborn survival instinct. While he proudly swore the Resol'nare, he never fit into the crowded military barracks or the metallic, claustrophobic decks of the roaming fleet. As a core part of his education, in addition to learning Mandalorian history, culture, and combat skills, he was trained by trailblazers, scouts, and survivalists. Ferrin realized early on that although he looked upon the Covenant as his family, he only truly felt the peace of the Manda when his boots were pressed into the dirt of an untamed world.

Upon passing his Verd'goten, by surviving alone on a jungle death-world for an entire month and returning with the skull of an indiginous apex predator as his trophy, a Covenant Armorer forged him his first suit of true Beskar'gam from beskar donated to him by the other warriors as was tradition for a foundling. With their blessing, he stepped out into the stars alone in a retrofitted scout vessel he named The Iron Thorn, a fitting moniker symbolizing both he and his ship's stubborn tenacity and rugged toughness. Ferrin spent years customizing his armor plates painting them the colors of the forest floor, layering them with survival gear, and carving three deep "Arrogance Marks" into his chest plate to serve as a permanent reminder of the three times the wild had nearly claimed his life. He became a pathfinder, a master tracker of beasts and sentients alike. Yet, his isolation is born of duty, not resentment. He travels the extreme fringes of space so that his people don't have to, clearing deadly environments and tracking down raw resources to ensure the survival of the Iron Covenant fleet.
PERSONALITY

Ferrin is a man of few words, defined by an intense, internal calmness. He does not possess the hot-headed, aggressive bravado often associated with younger Mandalorian shock troopers. Instead, his personality mirrors the wild environments he patrols: patient, unyielding, and deeply pragmatic.

He is comfortable with silence and isolation, viewing solitude not as a burden, but as a space where he can maintain absolute focus. He is deeply observant, constantly calculating risks, wind directions, thermal changes, and escape routes. While he seems cold or detached on the surface, his internal compass is anchored by an absolute, quiet devotion to the Iron Covenant. He treats his lone-wolf lifestyle as a personal sacrifice, staying out in the dirt so that the civilians of the fleet can remain safe. When he does connect with people, he shows his affection through actions rather than words: butchering a fresh kill for the kitchens, fixing a mechanical problem, or quietly pouring a cup of his private reserve stout for a trusted friend.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS

+Survival Instincts - Ferrin can drop onto almost any inhospitable planet with nothing but a knife and walk out alive. His knowledge of alien flora, fauna, weather patterns, and wilderness tracking is encyclopedic.
+Stalker's Patience - Unlike front-line fighters who rush into the fray, Ferrin is a master of the long game. He can sit completely motionless in a sniper's blind or a freezing mud pit for hours, waiting for the perfect split-second to spring an ambush, and will willingly dig himself in indefinitely if Fleet responders are delayed.
+Adapt & Overcome - Ferrin excels at turning his environment into a weapon. Whether it is baiting a target into a narrow chasm, triggering a rockslide, or using toxic local flora to coat his tracking darts, he maximizes his field advantage.
+Sensible Humility - The three "Arrogance Marks" on his chest plate are a testament to his ego-less nature. He respects the galaxy's lethality, never underestimates a beast or an enemy tracker, and is always willing to adapt his methods to stay alive.

WEAKNESSES

-Socially Claustrophobic - Years of living in wide-open, dangerous wilderness have made Ferrin hyper-sensitive to crowded spaces. When forced to stay inside the metallic corridors of the Mythos Fleet for too long, he becomes irritable, restless, and deeply anxious.
-Lone Wolf - Ferrin trusts his own shadow more than any squad mate. If a mission starts going sideways, his immediate instinct is to cut off communication, slip into the wild, and handle the threat entirely on his own, which can put him at odds with allies who want to work as a team.
-Insubordinate - Because he was primarily raised and trained by pathfinders and frontier scouts, and often operates alone, Ferrin has very little patience for formal military hierarchy, marching, or bureaucratic red tape. He will openly ignore orders from high-ranking officers if he believes their tactical layout violates basic survival logic or planetary reality. He'll do his duty, but he'll do it his way.
-Soft Spot for Foundlings - Because of his own traumatic history as an orphan who was saved from the brink of death, Ferrin struggles to remain emotionally detached when children or young foundlings are in danger. He will often abandon a calculated hunt or a stealth protocol to protect a child, leaving himself wide open to traps.
