Fear Not the Dead, Nor the Damned

Rafeesh walked down the tunnel slowly, taking each step carefully. He wondered what was down here. Some ancient Sith ghost? Or perhaps some treasure trove? He looked forward to exploring more. So he kept on walking, he noticed that every several meters there would be an insignia cut into the stone. It wasn't the Imperial or the Republic symbol that he had known. Was it a newer one? Is so from whom?

About fifty meters from entrance he found a cavern that expanded about ten meters. It had three other tunnels that left it across from the main entrance that he had taken. Perhaps they lead further into the stone? He turned back to the tunnel and only then really noticed that the way he had come in was tilted downward, ever so slightly. It was enough though that he could not see the light of day, he was now seeing by these strange stones that glowed with a dark purple light. He turned back to the cavern and found that there had been a base or something here.

There were broken and rusty tables along the sides and what remained of a metal poles that he assumed had held up tent work. Then there were a few rusted lights that had broken and fallen to the floor. He walked towards one of the tables and found that there still were on it some of its contents. Stone tablets that had had their writing destroyed by time, rusted blasters and lightsabers, paper manuscripts all but gone, and a single datapad. Unlike the rest of the things on the table the datapad seemed to be in good condition. When he reached to touch he realized why, the datapad was contained in a perfectly clear container. It must have been some sort of transparisteel, though why it was here he did not know.

Rafeesh put his hand against the metal and felt the cool touch before he grabbed his lightsaber and activated it. He carefully cut through the casing and then turned off the lightsaber, returning it to its clip on his belt. He gently picked up the datapad, half expecting it to disintegrate right then and there. He noted the older model, it was perfectly from his time period. Was it a Sith one that had been left behind? He powered it up to see the same strange symbol that had adorned the walls on the walk down. He found that it was something akin to a journal. He picked the latest entry.

The text was slow to load, but then it filled the screen of the datapad:

The Captain said he would look into our problem with the Holocron. We are still trying to find out who brought it from the Temple. The whole place was supposed to be ransacked. They said that the attack was going well, except for one incident with the leaders. All the Sith have fallen before us and we have yet to encounter any true resistance.

We have had another three injured brought in, mostly lightsaber wounds. Won't be able to do much about the one with the severed leg, but the other two only have slight taps, they should make a full recovery. We will see if high command sends any cybernetics here to take care of the leg.

The Captain returned from the cave, he said something about no one being allowed to go down there. Some of the others heard blaster fire down there. Did the Sith dig that deep to us? It doesn't matter, the captain says that there will be no more trouble with the ghost that had been causing trouble to troops down there. Is he going to blow the tunnel?

Well I was right. He did blow the tunnel, but not before a few of the men attacked him. It must have been the ghost again, it seems to do that quite a bit. At least it has been the main reason for losing people here.

It didn't work. We just lost ten more men to the damned wraith! The Captain was the first to go, shot by sarge. I think she just got another one, I can hear blaster fire. Why does everyone in this medical camp have a gun? I'll write back in a moment, gonna try and take down the poor guy who's under her control now.

It ended there. Obviously the trooper had died. Rafeesh was intrigued with this ghost however. Whose was it? Someone he knew? Rafeedh doubted it. He couldn't think of anyone with the strength to have fought through death. It was a female, at least that was what the datapad indicated.

He wondered which tunnel led to the collapsed cave.
