Fear is the mind-killer. (Dominic)

Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

The simple words echoed through her mind as careful steps carried her slender form across the arid expanse between the landing pad and the mine’s administrative office. Bright silver-shaded eyes scanned the datapad in her hand as she walked, perusing the messages that had been sent over the last few weeks. In the course of her research in the bestiary archives on Bastion, she had come across mention of the energy spiders that dwelled deep within the mines of Kessel.

An intriguing species that not only had a connection to the spice and created webs of glitterstim, but fed upon the energy of their prey for sustenance. A concept with which she herself was intimately familiar, given the gift of her mother’s genetics. Vylythis was curious if they could be tamed and taken off-world, in spite of the previous failed attempts she’d read about. Given the trait they shared, the Knight wondered if perhaps it would give her an advantage.

Her musings ceased as she came to the gate of the mining complex. Admittance was the task of moments as she presented her credentials, and sauntered her way into the facility. Slender fingers smoothed out the silk and leather of her outfit, ensuring it was in perfect place. What little breeze there was outside toyed with her crimson curls until the door opened before her and she stepped inside.

The administrator greeted her himself, instead of sending one of his minions in his stead. Vylythis would have given him credit for it, had her senses not alerted her to the nerves that quivered beneath his skin.

“Am I going to be disappointed?” she asked, her voice emerging softly, but with a crisp Bastion accent.

“No, no of c-course not! I have done as you asked. The c-creatures are prepared for tr-transport.” the man stammered, his form cringing visibly as he heard her audible sigh.

“Then why are you so nervous? Were there complications? Are the creatures perhaps not in the condition we agreed upon?” She raised a sculpted brow, levitating the datapad in her hand to the quiet assistant that stood behind her and just a bit the right. Her hands rested briefly against the lightsaber hilts clipped to her belt before they folded demurely together at her waist.

“We lost so many of the slaves we sent to capture them, my Lady-”

“The slaves were, as you told me yourself, expendable, and I transferred a substantial sum to you for this.”

“W-well y-yes, but there have been….troubles...r-recently.”

“What kind of troubles could there possibly be that enough credits can not fix? I know precisely how well your mine is doing.” her tone sharpened slightly, though she gave no other outward sign of her displeasure.

“R-raids...freeing groups of slaves at a t-time...the security has been s-stretched so v-very thin.” he gasped, clawing at the invisible hands upon his throat.

If there was one thing she could not stand, it was the utter incompetence of those outside Imperial territory. While she had technically completed her business, there was something within the Force that seemed to anchor her to the planet. She freed one hand and gestured to her assistant, prompting the woman to utter a soft ‘yes, your ladyship’ before she took charge of having the crates transferred to her ship.

Vylythis, for her part, let go of the Force grip on the administrator’s neck with a disappointed shake of her head. Spinning on her heel, she strode back out into the open area between the surface buildings, eyes slipping half closed as she gave way to her Force sense and began to systematically search for something or someone out of place.

The Bastion descended through the skyline of Kessel, The ramp extended, Dominic sat on the edge waiting for the go ahead, he was being sent in ahead of the rest to try and find the area with the highest concentration of slaves. The ship continued to fly through the orange clouds produced by the mines, 500 feet above the surface, he was terrified, he had a job to do though... Then his com came to life, the droid at the helm told him to jump...

Once he was away, the ship ascended back into orbit, Dom was left free falling toward the mines, of course he had a parachute, Kahlil didn't trust in his ability to survive the fall with the force alone... 400 feet.... 300 feet... He kept falling, on his way down though, the force spoke to him, warning him of.... something.... He chose to ignore it though he had more important things to focus on. 200 feet.... 100 feet.... And 50 feet. He pulled the cord and the parachute deployed, he immediately used the force to slow his descent, combined with the wind resistance he only just managed to land without a scratch. As he removed the parachute he activated his com. "We... have touch down..." He clicked it off and proceeded to move toward one of the large vents, thinking that would be a good place to start looking for slaves.

He reached the facility and looked over the area, noticing someone stood out in the open, all by their lonesome, he moved along the rooftops, trying to keep himself unseen and undetected, where the force had spoke to him on the way down, it was practically shouting at him now, something about this person... didn't feel right. None-the-less he kept up his usual cocky and immature attitude as he spoke. "Hey there red, what's someone like you doing all the way out here?"

Well.

This little trip to Kessel had suddenly gotten far more interesting.

Fingers rose to course through her crimson curls, absently fluffing the long locks as they swirled about her slender form in what little breeze there was. Her hands then folded together at her waist, eyes still half-closed. She had a general sense of the man's location, but politely waited before pinpointing it to see what he would do. There was a certain scent in the air, dissociated from what was normal for Kessel.

A human, perhaps. Or at most, one of the near sub-species.

And possessed of a spark of energy that denoted Force ability.

Fascinating.

He was neither truly light or dark, but relatively close to balance. If he'd been trained, it hadn't been for long, else his Force signature and scent alike would reek of the Light she was more than familiar with. Lofting a brow, she canted her head towards where his voice came from, allowing her silvered gaze to cast about for his form.

"A lady never answers such an impertinent question without a proper introduction. Won't you come out and at least say hello?" she purred softly, pitching her voice to carry just enough to his ears.

Dominic Sat atop the door the woman in front of him had recently exited, he decided that it would be fine though, surely he was quiet enough so his footsteps were practically non-existant, surely they wouldn't find him based solely and his voice. He Paused his movements as she began to speak, he considered her offer of a formal introduction.... Subsequently deciding that it would do no harm simply meeting and greeting, maybe she would be a potential acquaintance...
So not seeing anything wrong with it, he leaped over her head performing all manner of flips to try, unsuccessfully, to impress whoever this was, though upon landing he noticed her eyes closed, making the flamboyant entrance all but pointless, he had landed around 10 feet from the stranger, leaving a big enough gap in case things got ugly, while simultaneously landing close enough to at least engage in conversation.... And that's exactly what he was going to do...
"So red, you can open your eyes if you want, i might be missing an eye i don't think i'm that ugly. But anyway, you said a Proper introduction was in order so, Hello, I am Dominic Shiro, who might you be?"
Like most things in his life, Dominic wasn't taking this seriously at all, even performing a bow while introducing himself.

With a flourish he entered her direct field of vision, his physical exertions certainly not going unappreciated though viewed only through the lens of the Force. Silvered eyes opened to drink in the sight he proffered, and the Lady took the time to admire him with a slow, lingering glance. A sculpted brow was lofted as he spoke, giving his name and a rather dubious bow. If he had any knowledge of courtly graces, it was rudimentary at best, but the basic form was at least there...somewhere.

"A...pleasure to make your acquaintance, Dominic." she said, before dropping into a graceful curtsy, the motion borne of years of practical training and experience in the Imperial court. "I am Vylythis Zambrano." Her titles were omitted on purpose, as they were a trial to explain to those unfamiliar with the expanse of the Zambrano family. Her name would suffice for now.

"As you have already asked, I'm here on business. Might I inquire as to what brings such a gentleman to Kessel?"

Vylythis inclined her head towards her assistant as the woman deferentially approached, handing the Lady a datapad that required her signature. She scanned the documents within and applied her signature in the proper places before handing it back. "Has everything been secured? Excellent. You may return the manifest and attend to the ship, thank you, R'issa."

Her gaze flashed to a brighter shade of silver mingled with blue for a moment as she returned her attention to Dominic and awaited his reply.

He watched as the stranger before him, introduced herself as Vylythis Zambrano, performing a curtsy to boot. The initial thought of her overall persona, was that of a smug privileged daddy's girl. The name felt oddly familiar though, but he hadn't the faintest idea where he had heard it. He ignored this feeling though, trying to keep up his stance and appearance, the force however continued to holler at him, yet he didn't understand why, he couldn't feel the force he was used to around her, but he could feel something else..... What was it?
What was the reason she was here? Business, as if a more vague answer existed, but at least it was a start. Someone else came from the doorway behind her, appearing to be Vylythis' assistant, further reinforcing this idea when they handed a data pad of to her, Dom waited until they had finished their little conversation before moving slowly toward the Vylythis, running his hands into the pockets of his jacket.
"Seeing as you've given me little to no context, i'll do the same, i'm here cause i'm looking for some people" Dom smirked as he approached, clearly thinking he was being annoying but in all reality, Vylythis probably didn't care, he starred behind her to see her assistant disappear behind door "Who was that?" He removed one hand from his pocket moving it behind his back, reaching for a small blade he had clipped there, he was expecting for her to become a bit defensive about this so called 'business' happening.....

A faint sigh escaped her lips as he stepped forward, dissembling and attempting to hide the motion of his hand slipping to the small of his back. If she were to wager, there would be credits going toward the fact that he was reaching for some sort of weapon. Whatever it was, it bore no significance until it made it's presence known, so the Lady simply stood where she was, not moving a single inch.

"Well, there are plenty of people on Kessel, though you would have more luck finding amenable locals in the southern hemisphere where the climate becomes so much more hospitable." she added in kind, canting her head to the side as he inquired after her assistant.

"That is my personal assistant, R'issa. She is the most loyal and valuable member of my staff and thus has my full confidence in all matters." Silver hued eyes flashed briefly to crimson and Vylythis had paused before allowing herself the luxury of a verbal reply and neglecting to mention how protective of the woman she was. Courtly intrigues and power plays saw to that.

Her stance shifted slightly, enough to disturb the half cloak that fell about her shoulders. It slipped aside enough to reveal the dulled silver of a pair of lightsaber hilts clipped securely to her belt, one on either side of her waist. "As for my business, it is for personal research. I made a purchase from the Administrator of this facility and came to collect my new pets."

He placed his hand on the blade, wrapping his fingers around the hilt. vylythis spoke up and said about locals being more southern. "To be perfectly honest i'm not looking for a local, why do you think i'm standing right here?" The grip on his blade tightened, though he still did not remove it, instead opting to talk for a while longer, after all, there was still that aura surrounding Vylythis, one that still baffled Dominic.
While the Vylythis.... 'introduced' her assistant, Dom had taken another step toward her, closing to about 7 feet, and with every inch, the force told him to retreat, but yet again he shut it out, for no other reason than, he was intrigued by this woman, and the aura that surrounded her. Though that name, Zambrano, kept coming up in his mind, leading to always think of the Bastion, about her crew, about.... "Kahlil..."
The young man, ceased his approach, struggling to process what he had just figured out, Kahlil hadn't really spoke of his family, but he had said about how dangerous they were. The wind picked up, blowing the woman's cloak aside, revealing the hilts of lightsabers, Dom almost chit himself when he saw the hilts, though he had been in plenty of melees before, he hadn't had to fight against someone who could cut him in half with little to no effort. None-the-less, he didn't let the feeling of fear show on his face, though she could most likely feel it radiating off of him, he loosened the grip on his blade, and instead moved toward the com link, trying to activate it without the woman noticing....

A soft, sumptuous laugh emerged from her lips, carrying through the air to his ears with a touch of the Force to amplify it simply because she could. “Ahhh, now who’s dissembling? You could at least be as honest as you’ve asked me to be...or are you not capable of such a thing?”

She lofted a brow as he breathed a name softly, so much so that it took her a moment to truly register that he had said anything at all. “Khalil….ahhh, so you know my half-brother...this has gotten so much more interesting.” Vylythis purred, her gaze sweeping across his form as something in his stance told her something had changed.

The scent of his fear registered before the lush feel of his slid across her Force senses, her eyes fluttering half closed for a moment before opening once more. The silver of her gaze had sharpened somehow, as had her delicate features in the time she took to take two steps forward. The distance between them closed and she kept her attention fixed upon him, using a thread of the Force to levitate her cloak across to R’issa’s waiting hands.

//Wait in the ship, Ri, I’ll be along eventually. Make sure it’s ready to go, please.// she sent the thought privately to R’issa through the Force, feeling her assent given as steps carried the petite brunette away.

Vylythis let her gaze slowly course across Dominic’s features, a smile flitting across her lips. “If there’s something you’d like to say, now would be the perfect time...although, I wouldn’t recommend calling for help. It likely won’t arrive in time, and I can certainly be...reasonable.”

Dom chuckled to himself as Vylythis spoke, of course he wasn't going to be honest with her, he only knew her name and that she was collecting some 'pets', for what she wanted them for was anyone's guess. "I don't know if you've noticed but honest literally isn't in my vocabulary, but antagonise is, so how about it red? You feeling hostile yet?"

His question was soon answered as she had picked up on him speaking of Kahlil, to which she seemed intrigued by this sudden revelation, his eyes narrowed as she spoke, a half-sibling? A sudden feeling of dread came over him, calling for help wouldn't work, the crew were in orbit and would take far too long to get down here...
He moved his hand away from the com and back to his side, watching as she came ever closer, asking if He wanted to say anything, what was he supposed to say in this instance? Wow your intimidating? y'know where a bathroom is? Though the question he settled on was a simple one: "The force that surrounds you, it's different from Kahlil's, tell me, what is it?" Using his question as a distraction as he reached out with the force to grab a number of rocks laying around their feet, with the intent of using them as projectiles against Vylthis...

"Ahhh...that is a pity. I had hoped to find you capable of more erudite discourse, but alas, I must be disappointed."

Canting her head to the side, she stared at him intently, stopping three paces away from him, her gaze holding to his. He was going to try something, but what, she wasn't certain yet. Whatever it was, it promised to be entertaining at the very least. He spoke again, however, and she found herself offering a delicate pout in response. "Really? Antagonizing? I do apologize, but I'm not feeling hostile yet. You'll have to work much harder than that to provoke hostility...I do try to be civilized."

Vylythis smiled once more, feeling him reach out through the Force as he posed a query to distract her. Very well, she mused, I'll play along. I wouldn't mind a snack for the trip back to Bastion. He might even last longer than the last one.

"Very simply put, my dear Dominic, Khalil is a lightsider, and I am saturated in the darkside. My half-brother has forsaken his heritage to play at being a Jedi, and I have been trained to wield the darkness that I was born into. But don't worry...he'll come home in the long run. The strays always do." Her expression turned predatory for a moment, her smile revealing a flash of glittering white fangs.

Dominic decided he had heard enough from Vylythis, the fangs protruding from her mouth had all but made that decision for him, the time to strike was now, if he could just keep her occupied for long enough, he could grab his com and call the crew... And with that thought a large number of rocks pebbles and all manner of dust collected around vylythis, pelting her from all sides. With the Sith distracted, he scrambled away, grabbing his com and placing his thumb over the activation button, making it only a few paces before stopping in his tracks.
He thought about what she had said... Kahlil, the lightsider.... And she, saturated in the dark side... Why separate the force into two components? Surely it would make more sense to keep all aspects of it. He instead decided to place the com back onto his belt, and releasing his hold on the debris still pelting the woman, as the rubble dropped to the ground he reached out a hand, calling upon the force once again to grab at one of her lightsabers.
"I've thought about this for ten seconds and i'm almost certain i'll be killed for this but... I want to make a deal with you, a duel, you win: I tell you where Kahlil and the rest of the crew is, I win: You teach me this darkness you speak of. Deal?" At this point he was doing his best not to shake from the potential danger he had just put everyone in, this simply gave him more drive to win, igniting the blade, awaiting a reply

Shielding had never been her strong point. Her abilities lay in the physical realm, toward pure brutality and precise, damaging strikes. So when the volley of dust and debris came towards, a good portion of it got through before she managed to protect herself from the rest of the onslaught. Every the patient one, she waited, watching him through the Force as he paced and thought her thoroughly distracted. Whatever her half-brother had taught him, it clearly hadn't been effective.

Vylythis was thoroughly prepared to be disappointed when the 'storm' ceased, using a touch of the Force to brush the dust and debris away from where it had settled on her. Fingertips rose to gingerly brush against her bloody lip, the scent and taste giving rise to her senses and her hunger.

Lofting a brow as her gaze flooded crimson, she watched as Dominic took possession of one of her hilts and ignited the dark blood-red blade. Stereotypical of a Sith, perhaps, but it suited her aesthetic all the same. She laughed as he spoke, the sound lyrical as it rang out from her.

"An intriguing bargain you bring to me. You have brashness and bravery in spades...I will teach you regardless and savor the process. Let this be your first lesson, then. Never assume a Sith is simply a being of the Force...some of us are so much more..." she purred, breathing deeply and using the speed inherent in her vampiric heritage to dash around Dominic, pausing briefly to lean towards him from behind and move to brush her lips against his ear, before she returned to her former position without utilizing the Force at all.

Dominic kept his stance tall and attempted to give the impression of any type of formal training in lightsaber combat, but in truth, all he had to fall back on was a few years of fighting Trandoshans. To say he wasn't exactly feeling like his usual self would be an understatement, the cocky brash and joke obsessed moron had suddenly learn a new word, seriousness, becoming completely fixated on the Vylythis, watching her movements for anything that might hint at a preferred way to fight...
He brought the saber up to his chest, casting a glow across the left side of his face, then proceed to bring it back down to his side, only to notice she had moved, where though? As this thought crossed his mind, he felt a slight breeze on his ear, turning sharply on the ball of his foot only t o catch the blur of he red locks. Stumbling back around, his eyes narrowed and his voice raised. "I'll take that as a yes then" What had he gotten himself into.
And with those final thoughts, the blade in his hand was lifted so it were pointing directly at her face, why did he decide betting the crew was a good idea? Dominic had learned from his time on Felucia, unless they're unaware of your presence, always let your opponent strike first, attempt to learn how they fight, and eventually use it against them...

A soft, taunting peal of laughter emerged past her lips as she flitted around him, before finally coming to a stop before him once more. It was exhilarating to allow her abilities the freedom they longed for under the tight control she kept them under the rest of the time. Her posture changed, going from rigid and formal to something more relaxed and comfortable.

“Mmm...this is much better.” she breathed as she stared at him unabashedly, the smile curling her lips speaking volumes.

The hilt in her hand was soon ignited, rising slowly to hover beside the one he held angled towards her features. A brow lofted and Vylythis’ voice emerged as a purr. “Ahh...so you’re not entirely useless. Excellent...one should almost always allow their prey to move first. The things you can learn from those few seconds are invaluable.”

“But always while remaining observant.”

The words were uttered soft and slow as if they were an incantation of sorts. Skittering noises and tumbling rocks echoed from around them as she continued, the sound building as something very large seemed to be approaching them.

“You never know who else could decide to stop by…”

Useless? That was her first impressions? Dominic, after hearing it from her was determined to win now, prove her wrong and learn her secrets. he kept the saber held high, occasionally knocking it into the blade held by Vylythis, trying to hold off the engagement for as long as possible, attempting to read her, to no avail. A dark side user, the opposite of the light, half-siblings, opposite to one another, Kahlil uses.... uhh soresu? Was that the name? The defensive form, so an offensive form maybe, Ataru?
How was he supposed to fight someone who had likely been fighting wars as long as he was a slave? Especially since she was starting to act like he usually would, the cocky type, or at least that's how it seemed. He started to become both agitated and frustrated, agitated due to the possibility of his death and all those he cared for, frustrated because he just wanted to start. He was distracted by the sound of skittering under his feet and the sudden rumble of the earth beneath him, though what really caught his attention was when Vylythis starting mumbling.... Something. He turned to her, with narrowed eyes and a small smirk forming across his face.
"Are these the pets you mentioned earlier? S'not exactly fair to bring in help, or are you just scared to lose to someone using your own blade?" Surely that had antagonised her at least a bit, enough to throw a hit or something. In hindsight it probably would've been better to simply throw the first hit, it might now have given her a chance to summon whatever was beneath them. he grasped the knife he had on his belt with his free hand, intending to at least slash her a bit...
All that was left was to see who would strike first, Dominic, Vylythis or whatever hell-spawn she had summoned....

An audible sigh emerged, dusted with disappointment as were her delicate features.

"Pets? My dear Dominic. I do not have pets. I have companions. They are more reliable than most sentient species...my siblings included."

She remained focused on him though spared enough concentration for the illusion to continue, knowing that eventually some of the larger species would be roused to wakefulness by it. Then, perhaps they would deign to grace her with their presence. The thought of it brought the smile back to her glossy lips and she canted her head to the side.

"Dominic, as delightful as your cockiness is, you simply must learn when to brandish it and when to keep it leashed."

A slow, graceful shrug quickly turned into a flash of movement. Using the arc his last hit against her saber had sent it on, she swept the blade toward his opposite shoulder, intending to disable the limb if he did not move himself out of the way. Her features remained calm though her eyes flashed crimson as she made use of the Force with a concentrated punch of energy towards his stomach.

It would perhaps be more difficult to be a cocky male if he was doubled over trying to catch his breath.

Dominic almost cracked a smile when she spoke of her siblings, though that smile quickly deteriorated into slightly annoyed expression, all of his attempts to make her antagonistic failed. Or at least, they hadn't so far, none-the-less, he continued to tap the blades together, until she finally struck. The blade moved toward his arm. Slightly predictable, almost like it was meant to be that way. "Cockiness hasn't gotten me kille-"
While mid sentence, Dominic was sent backwards through the air, becoming winded by the sudden hit, he had never expected her to fight like that, but at least the match was finally on. He tuned out the skittering and pounding under his feet, while trying to recover his lost wind. It took mere seconds, and soon enough he was once again smirking. "Finally! I was beginning to think this wouldn't happen." In truth he hadn't really expected the sudden use of the force and was taken back by it. However he still didn't let it show on his face, after all, this was still likely going to be fun.
Dominic, having recovered, lunged toward her raising the saber, making it appear as though his intentions were to strike from the top, but in reality was simply using it as a distraction to attempt to sweep her legs out from underneath her. The dirty fighting from Felucia was finally showing itself again.
