Private Eyes & Ears || Queen Svana

THEED PALACE, NABOO
Shortly after With Fresh Eyes

The influx of bodies into the Queen's chambers had shaped the agenda of the day.

While Naboo was still in the early stages of recovery, the outpouring of support had provided the monarch with direction. Her Majesty knew what allies, assets, and aide she had at her disposal. This, overall, was good for the southern jewel. But, having so many speaking over one another was not conducive to creating an action plan. So it was that an appointed time was offered to all who had made the journey to Theed. So it was that Vynter patiently awaited his moment.

During the moments in-between, the Emissary was permitted to tarry within the Palace. Vynter chose a balcony only a few corridors away from the meeting rooms. This would permit a prompt arrival when the time came, but also a view of the capital city. For a time, his hands rested upon the railing, eyes settled upon the horizon. His mind was a whirlwind: where Naboo no doubt saw numerous allies manifesting out of the ether, Vynter saw vultures circling overhead. Very few, if any, gave assistance for free. Even his liege sought a partnership - not charity.

For the Queen's sake, he hoped the world's circumstances did not yield any raw deals.

When the hour came, Vynter quietly strode into the meeting chamber with minimal fanfare. As he had once before, the Emissary offered a polite bow in greeting. "Thank you for meeting with you, your Grace." he began. "It was heartening to see the outpouring of support for Naboo this afternoon."

Pleasantries aside, now his own mission could begin.

The day had been long. There was no other way to describe it, and while assistance was of course both appreciated and needed, it had left Svana with a headache she had yet to be able to get rid of. The throbbing at her temples was amplified any time someone mulled about. Even the appearance of water she had requested made her sigh and press a hand to her forehead momentarily before she thanked the young woman. Dehydration was setting in, but the day had been busy...or rather that was the excuse the Queen would use if anyone were to state something about it. Not that she gave such a thing away.

Even now, when the chamber door opened again Svana's posture righted easily. She still sipped at the water that was there in front of her, but anything else was easy enough to ignore for the time being. "It would be rude and irresponsible not to give those who are here, answering our call, equal time to sit, discuss, and flesh out details." She pointed out to him, and while her tone was tired it was not rude. "That being said, thank you for being patient and remaining close by to make this meeting possible."

With pleasantries out of the way, even as sincere as they were, Svana shook her head. "The amount of offered support is mildly suspicious." She stated with a sigh. "And while I do not wish to look a gift horse in the mouth, I cannot help but feel like I'm in the water, surrounded by sharks..." That wasn't to say that the offers of assistance received today were all bad. Genuine hands had been extended to Naboo, after all. But it was a lot to take in, and not everyone always had such honest intentions, especially in these sorts of situations.

Heavy was the head that wore the crown.

That much was evident. Vynter had witnessed the signs for his entire life. From his upbringing on Vandor to standing before his liege on Verun. Though might radiated from monarchs, the weight of rule was indeed cumbersome. Even the Queen of Naboo fell victim to its demands, as evidenced by how she shook her head. Vynter held his peace as she voiced her thoughts, folding his hands neatly behind his back. And when finished, the Emissary took a step closer.

"Your grace, you are exactly that. You are in the ocean, surrounded by sharks. Naboo finds herself in a precarious position. Aide and assistance are needed, but many would seek recompense in the future. To have the crown indebted to them."

Vynter placed his dominant hand upon his sternum.

"Not so my liege, for I have come to settle his debt to you. To Naboo. As you recall, when the former capital of Genosis was under duress, it was your people who opened its doors to the government. In doing so, Naboo was taking on a great burden and a great risk. Though what remains is so far removed from the southern systems, we do not forget our own. And you, your rule, and your people are our own."

"It is the will of my liege that an accord be struck. A symbiotic relationship of the kind you once shared with the Confederacy. Defense. Trade. Transit. Security. All shared between the Ascendancy and the Kingdom of Naboo. Our success becomes your success. Our survival becomes your survival."

He then motioned his hand towards the monarch.

"What are your thoughts, your grace?"

There was an elongated and slow sigh that slipped past the lips of the young Queen as this presentation was made to her. The Confederacy had dropped off the grid and left Naboo high and dry to deal with not only the end of the assault, but the aftermath as well. The fact left a bitter taste in Svana's mouth and more than a little hostility. And yet neither of those things touched her expression, and there was reason for that. Not only did she need to keep herself poised, but the fact that a hand was being reached out with the acknowledgement of the initial crisis? It was a step in the right direction.

"My thoughts," she finally spoke out, and hummed softly as if in thought afterwards. "There is no hiding the terseness I feel towards all of this. All of it," she clarified. It wasn't just the former Confederacy reaching out, after all. "However, of all the hands reaching, that of the newly formed...Ascendancy, is at least one of familiarity and therefore the one to reach back for. That being said,"

Now Svana sat down, but her gaze did not leave this ambassador as she did so, and she sat at the very front edge of her seat just in case she needed to rise quickly for whatever reason. It had become an unconscious move since everything had happened. "If this deal is to be struck, Naboo cannot be abandoned in crisis again. Countless lives were lost, and we are still uncovering more as we try to clean this city up. And that is just this city. Both sides will have to do better," Svana recognized that this did not fall entirely on old Confederate shoulders, after all. "Both sides will have to have plans, and back up plans, and plans to back up those plans in case something like this ever happens again."

There was a sternness in her gaze now, yet it was laced with the underlying hurt of someone who felt like they had failed miserably. "The innocent people of both side must come first."

Her sigh carried weight.

The Emissary could only imagine the frustration of the monarch before his eyes. After the cataclysm, the worlds of the Confederacy convened for a final meeting. It was there, despite the protests of many members - Naboo included - that the great experiment was put to rest. The Vicelord and his Presidium did all they could to argue for the continuation of their great nation. They attempted to keep everything united so that they could all survive and rebuild together. In the end, however, the majority chose and the dissolution took root.

All that remained went south, leaving those who wanted to remain whole alone. At the very least, what remained of the government remembered those who made the attempt to stay together. Remembered its truest allies. And thus, they reached out. Vynter nodded lightly as it seemed that the Queen would accept the gesture. He listened in silence while she made her conditions - that Naboo would never be left high and dry again, and that there be plans should anything like the cataclysm strike again.

"We agree." he answered, once more speaking on behalf of his liege. "When the Cataclysm occurred, as you recall, it was democracy which sent us scurrying to the far side of the Galaxy. Democracy, bureaucracy, and the trappings of defeated politicians. We have cut ourselves free from those chains - ascended if you will. I say this to assure you - so long as we have breath in our bodies, Naboo will never be abandoned again."

"Once the formal treaty is established, the Dominus' advisors can collaborate with your own cabinet. We will gladly establish plans for seeing the safety and security of our peoples - especially in the event of a crisis."

Vynter paused, reaching into his coat to procure his datapad. Upon which, a modest agreement had been drawn. One speaking of the mutual defense, transit, trade, and security that he had already presented. His fingers deftly tapped upon the screen, making an amendment regarding the security of the innocent specifically, before offering it to the monarch. "The absence of traditional democracy allows us to keep things wonderously simple. By your signature upon this device, the futures of Naboo and the Ascendancy can become intertwined."

All that remained was the final step.
