Approved Species Experiment 29 - Epicanthix Umbaran Genetic Splice

Status
Not open for further replies.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To flesh out a genetic splice by an Arkanian scientist that only produced one successful living result.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Links: Epicanthix Umbaran Arkania
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Experiment 29; Jenica Ananillka is the only surviving member of the experiment.
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Homeworld: Arkania
  • Language: Galactic Basic and Umbarese
  • Average Lifespan: 128 by Galactic Standard
  • Estimated Population: Unique
  • Description: A nearly perfect hybridization of the genetic features of both the Epicanthix and Umbaran species, she stands at seven feet ten inches and possess the majority of the Epicanthix external features. She possesses the typical dark hair but in lieu of her purely Umbaran counterparts her skin is fairer, and questionably paler, than average Epicanthix. Her bone structure mirrors that of an Umbaran but possesses the durability of an Epicanthix; a well hidden support to her seemingly thin figure. Her eyes have a strangely unique property that comes in the form of exposure to sudden and otherwise bright lights; being that while her eyes are naturally a dark green bright lights will expose that her eyes are actually semi-achromatic. This feature fades with the diminishing of such light but is ever present.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average height of adults: 2.38 meters
  • Average length of adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Fair pale and slightly tanned
  • Hair color: Dark and almost black
  • Distinctions: Unlike average Epicanthix or Umbaran she is uniquely blended in a way that glorifies the best of each species. While it can be considerably difficult for most species to discern, an Epicanthix or Umbaran would be able to determine the exact differences by her nature. Physically she is as tall and sturdy as an Epicanthix but due to the Umbaran genetic inclusion she possesses fairer skin and brighter eyes, bordering on achromatic. While her physical features are strong, her bone structure matches that of an Umbaran with mildly gaunt features to her facial structure; often appearing unhealthily thin for her size. When exposed to bright lights her eyes reflect the same achromatic nature of her Umbaran genetics.
  • Strengths:
    - Closed Mind: Due to the inclusion of Epicanthix DNA she is can prevent being affected by powers that invade the mind.
    - Influence Mind: Due to inclusion of Umbaran DNA she has a subtle influence over the minds of others; ranging from influencing their thoughts, reading their minds or, in some cases, controlling them.
    - Strong Physique: She possesses the physical stature of Epicanthix with stronger than normal bones.
    - Accustom to Darkness: With eyesight derived from the Umbaran evolution she is able to see ultraviolet and has excellent night vision.
  • Neutral:
    - Mind Flux: She can open and close her mind at a time to enact the different species abilities through concentration. Exposing the mind to influence the minds of others or close her mind and then unconsciously block out outside invasive influence. While this is a useful talent this cannot be done instantaneously and leaves her mind in a limbo until her mind is either open or closed; this can last minutes if the switch is done too often.
  • Weaknesses:
    - Weak Heart: While physically she's strong in most every area, despite her physical appearance, she has an underlying issue with her heart. Due to her size and nature her heart struggles to keep up with her body and can induce fatigue with and without warning.
    - Optic Sensitivity: Sudden bursts of intense light of any kind will cause her temporary blindness or disorientation; bright environments will cause momentary disorientation until she adjusts.
    - Mind Flux: Cannot have her mind open or closed and benefit from the effects of the other power at the same time.
    - Intermission Period: While switching between her talents she is unable to make use of either and is thus both offense and defense are rendered ineffective until the switch is complete.
    - Migraines: While she is capable of blocking mental invasion and using her mind to influence those of others, each on independently from the other at a time, an excess of these in quick succession can, and often will, bring about intense migraines that must pass before she will regain their full effectiveness.
    - Sterile: Due to her nature as an experiment in splicing the DNA of two very different near-human species she is unable to reproduce in any way; leaving her sterile.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Similar to that of an average human of her size.
  • Communication: Spoken word, written language and body language.
  • Technology level: Galactic equivalent of the scientists who raised her.
  • Religion/Beliefs: She adheres to no particular religion or belief system.
  • General behavior: Born and raised under the watchful eye of Arkanian scientists she is very sensitive to being exposed to the outside world. Prior to her exposure she was quiet and isolated and, as such, she continues to act as such save for when she comes to trust an individual; this trust is often earned through either reading the minds of those around her or through consistent exposure to said individuals. She is naturally untrusting and wary of scientists of any kind.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
It was never uncommon that Arkanians enacted strange experiments. As such it went without saying that they would perform an experiment to undergo the combination of two uniquely talented species. One Arkanian scientist in particular took interest in the idea, in particular, to combine physical capability with psychic in a way that did not require the Force. He believed that in combining the genetic traits of the Epicanthix and Umbaran species one could create a being who was physical sturdy and mentally formidable without requiring any unseen field influencing them. It wasn't until the experiment was begun that the Arkanian truly witnessed the challenge he faced.

At first he brought in subjects from both species to try and breed them naturally; resulting in a cross species that did not match his desires. His next attempt proved disastrous, an attempt marred by a result of more dead subjects than live; ultimately those live subjects dying from unforeseen complications. He, fortunately, was not one to give up easily in the endeavor that he had set out to accomplish. It was when he turned, finally, to the method that had been tried and true that he found the saving grace for his project. Casting his concerns to the wind, along with a great many of his expectations, the scientist took the genetic material of his last few Epicanthix and Umbaran and went to work.

The fruitful result was a girl. A true hybridization of the two species, in way unprecedented, beyond his expectations. Disregarding the subjects that had failed and those that had died from complications, the Arkanian proudly boasted about his success. Raised, nurtured and educated in isolation it was no surprise that she would eventually seek her independence from the facility in which she was born; even were it to go against his desires for trying to replicate the experiment. In time she found her freedom, subject to ridicule from her father and creator, and came to face the galaxy head on on her own. She was the first and only of her kind.

First off, I'm going to need you to change the language here- this is a sub for a 'unique' member of a created species. No problem. But the sub is clearly written with a larger population in mind (height ranged, multiple skin tones, etc etc). Please edit these things to reflect that we are only talking about a single individual, since that's what's being subbed.

Thank you, let's dig into the details now.

The main issue, balance wise here, is the mentalism stuff, but we can absolutely work with it. I'm going to need you to add in something (it makes sense to put it in weaknesses, cause it is), that there is a delay while she switches between the two- i.e. she can't just do it at the drop of a hat, instantly- and that while she is making the switch, *neither* are effective. It doesn't need to be a hard time limit, just one that will see use if this is ever used in a PvP situation.

I'm also going to need you to add in a weakness that is *not* situational- which every weakness but sterile is (which, for the record, isn't a weakness in a unique species sub, since you can't have more anyway, so it's not getting counted toward balance), while your strengths are mostly geared toward things that function in one way or another at all times. Think of something that affects her, preferably physically, most/all of the time.

I've added additional weaknesses to reflect the above concerns. I wasn't aware that I was being very situational, I'm usually better at sorting out perpetual weaknesses with personality traits. I'll have to pay better attention when working with physical weaknesses.

Looks much better and I appreciate it. One last thing just to make it super clear and then I'll stamp this:

- Mind Flux: She can open and close her mind at a time to enact the different species abilities through concentration. Exposing the mind to influence the minds of others or close her mind and then unconsciously block out outside invasive influence.
Can you please make sure to clarify here that this process takes time and is not instantaneous.
