SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Proprietary expanding coil aerofoil design provides stopping power in unexpected ways.
  • Lightweight construction allows for ease of handling.
  • Integrated power cells in magazines ensure that the customer doesn't have to keep track of two different stats to keep the weapon fed.
Strengths:
  • Expanding Coil Aerofoil- This weapon fires a tightly coiled aerofoil that, when compressed, forms a 10mm in diameter slug that's easy to handle. The coil is secured by a bead of aluminum solder. Once it exits the weapon, the coil expands to a maximum diameter of 25 centimeters. The razor sharp edge cuts through the air, ensuring stability, and can potentially cut through unarmored flesh just as easily.
  • Expect the Unexpected- At this time, there are no other known weapons of this type available. For someone encountering it for the first time, the razor sharp spiraling blade of death is likely to come as a shock.
  • Convenient- The pistol is lightweight, and the integrated power cells in the magazine ensure that the customer doesn't have to keep track of two separate numbers in a firefight. Swapping mags swaps power cells.
Weaknesses:
  • Close Range- Due to the nature of the aerofoil, this weapon has a shorter range than the average slugthrower or blaster pistol.
  • Armor- Though the potential to penetrate light armor exists, the aerofoil will not cut through serious armor.
  • Recoil- The aerofoils are slightly heavier than a bullet of similar size. As such, recoil is increased over slugthrowers of similar mass. This is exacerbated somewhat by the lightweight construction.
DESCRIPTION
In most respects, this is a standard railgun, albeit one that has been modified to fire a particular projectile. It's powered by a power cell built into the magazine. Though the magazines can be recharged and reused, doing so in a firefight is impossible, as it takes about 15 minutes to get a full charge.

The projectile is a deceptively simple coiled aerofoil. The tightly wound aerofoil is secured by a bead of aluminum solder to keep it from expanding prematurely. When subjected to the intense magnetic fields of the railgun, the aluminum is vaporized. As soon as the aerofoil leaves the barrel, it expands to a quarter meter in diameter. The thin metal is razor sharp, so when it contacts unarmored flesh and standard clothing, it has the potential to slice to the bone with little to no resistance. While it lacks the mass to force its way though bone under all but the most freakish circumstances, it can sever flesh, and arteries with little trouble. Though it has the potential to cut through light cloth armor, any sort of solid plate will stop it cold.

The aerofoil design, although aerodynamic, simply doesn't have the range of standard pistols. After about twenty meters, it becomes impossible to predict trajectory with any sort of accuracy. While it's great in close quarters, such as onboard ships, it likely won't be useful on an open battlefield.

Aside from the ability to cause potentially deadly lacerations, the primary strength of this weapon is the element of surprise. If there are any similar weapons floating around the galaxy, RCFC has yet to encounter one. As such, someone facing this weapon for the first time runs the chance of being caught off guard. Even armored or lightsaber wielding opponents might find themselves wondering just what the hell they're up against when a rotating spiral of razor sharp doom comes flying at their face.
