OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a ship component that enables extensive exploration.
  • Canon Link: /
  • Restricted Missions: /
  • Primary Source: /
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Originally: Didact Defense Solutions | Modified heavily by Cogmind.
  • Model: EXO-P1
  • Affiliation: Daro Tarsi | Closed-Market
  • Modularity: No.
  • Production: Semi-Unique
  • Material: S-thread components, agrinium, duraplast.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Laneblazing. The EXPO-P1's main function is opening up stable, temporary hyperlanes for the ship its installed in.
  • Interdiction. Additionally it has the unique ability to penetrate through an interdiction field and land deeper within the origin of the field.
Strengths:
  • Blaze: It can forcibly open temporary hyperlanes through extreme astronomical phenomena. Nebula, ion clouds, no problem.
  • Pierce: Additionally it can partway penetrate into an interdiction field and as a result re-enter realspace in a different position than the interdictor might suspect.
Weaknesses:
  • Limited: The component only works for the ship it is installed on. You can't take anyone with you, sorry.
  • Scale: This module is only feasible to be installed in sub-capital ships. This means anything larger than a frigate isn't compatible with it. Try an' it is very likely the ship will be ripped apart at entry.
  • Drain: Using the Laneblazing function temporarily lowers any armament rating to Very Low for the duration of the travel and for some time after reversion into real-space. If a ship already has an armament of Very Low it will drain away any residual power and disable the Armament systems for the same amount of time. This means that this component is most effective on non-combat ships.
  • Hyperdrive Fry: Penetrating into an interdiction field stresses the hyperdrive by a lot and as a result the hyperdrive rating is temporarily lowered by -1 when that functionality is engaged.
DESCRIPTION
Didact's Lanebrain was a tasty little dish.

Especially for the kind of unscrupulous types that operated Cogmind. They saw potential in the research that the private security firm was doing and after some wheelin' an' dealin' (none of it strictly legal) managed to acquire some experimental schematics that hadn't panned out for Didact. After some experimenting and tinkering Daro managed to get the concept working: a component that could theoretically rip open stable hyperlanes for the duration of a single trip.

Reusable, efficient, perfect for scouts and explorer types.

Of course, it would be even more tasty for smuggler barons with deep, deep pockets.

The result was the EXO-P1.

Compatible with most sub-capital ships (with some tinkering and hotwiring) it enables the ship to blaze hyperlanes temporarily. Additionally, a function that Daro doesn't really advertise a lot, is that it can pierce an interdiction field. That... well, if there had been any warranty on the EXO-P1 they would probably void it with that little stunt. All in all the EXO is a very high risk, high reward type of deal.

Lots of options if you know what you are doing.

Certain death if you don't.

Few people really knew what they were doing in Daro's experience.

We are not accepting any submissions which allow ships to bypass interdiction fields through means that go beyond the scope laid out in canon. An S-Thread booster does not enable someone to escape an interdiction field, nor to cut through one, it enables the opening and stabilization of a hyperlane route through hyperspace turbulence and gravitic anomalies, which are the extent of what an S-Thread is capable of doing as laid out by novels surrounding Byss and its article.

The ability to bypass interdiction fields effectively negates the single way to combat hyperspace travel that much of star wars canon and legends material hinges on.

If you would like to use these to penetrate part-way into an interdiction field then that would be fine.
