Strengths:

  • Expert Tactician: The EX-1 is superb simulation opponent, like previous iterations of the Thrawn Simulator, and tactical aid to officers.

  • Unorthodox Insight: Imitating the late Grand Admiral's ability, the EX-1 can analyze art pieces associated with an enemy and provide some insights into the enemy's thought processes that might not be immediately apparent to the user otherwise.
Weaknesses:

  • Specialized: The EX-1 is one-trick pony, and cannot be adapted to anything else besides act as a tactical planning device.

  • Unreliable: EX-1's ability to provide insight into enemies based on art is not reliable, having approximately a 40% success rate. This means that it should be not relied upon to exactly predict enemy moves, but to open up the user's mind to different possibilities that could occur.

  • Specialized: Its narrow focus means that it is not useful in any other situation.

  • Localized: Its programming is located in a specific mainframe and contrary to some other AI it cannot move its programming through the HoloNet or other easy means.
DESCRIPTION
EX-1 started out as one of Lucerne Labs's most traditional AI experiments. Rather than using neural pathway mapping techniques, some of Lucerne Labs more junior engineers further developed the existing Thrawn Simulator to try and make it a more than a mere piece of simulation software. The resulting program EX-1 program turned the Thrawn Simulator into a full-fledged artificial intelligence capable of easily interacting and conversing with people in a more casual and personal matter than the previous software. As part of this transition, EX-1 was given extensive knowledge about Grand Admiral Thrawn himself, including his personal life, professional career, and political life. Combined with a voice and holo-graphic visage modeled after the chiss himself, EX-1 can almost make it appear that the Grand Admiral himself is present.

As part of this experience, the group labored to try and recreate Thrawn's legendary ability to analyze opponents by simply viewing pieces of art associated with them or their culture. Regrettably, this effort was only a partial success, as Thrawn's exact methodology for this ability is unknown to Lucerne Labs. However, they were able to piece together tactical analysis programming and combine it with an anthropology database to make a superficial imitation of his ability. Unfortunately, this fusion wasn't perfect nor were the tactical and anthropological databases weren't wholly complete, which means that the process has only a success rate of approximately 40%. While this means that it cannot be used to predict exactly what an enemy will do, it remains a useful tool to bring up potential possibilities to the user that they might not have otherwise thought of their own. As such, it is useful tool to make sure that one doesn't develop tunnel vision.

After its initial conception, EX-1 was tested personally by Admiral Quee, who further helped refine the design to its final form. It became clear as they progressed that the development was becoming exponentially harder and the success of the project was likewise coming to a plateau. This resulted in the project being shelved as the engineers were shuffled to more promising projects. EX-1 spent several months in a cold storage facility on Hast before being presented to Matsu Ike at Kashyyyk at a celebration of Lucerne Lab's ties to the Silver Jedi Order and the ISAF.



VIRGO is an AI specializing in analyzing and predicting economical trends on a galactic scale. Its focus allows it to formulate plans and projects for Czerka to increase its profits, simply by taking in account sentient nature, current trends and political situations. This narrow focus allows it to excel in these fields, but it is severely lacking in every other field. You won't see VIRGO come up with battlefield tactics or control the security of a corporate facility.
