- Plasma Pulse: The EX-1 is designed to accelerate a vessel in mere moments by firing a single, quick burst of energized plasma. This burst can quickly bring a vessels with this engine to their max speed, allowing for quick getaways. The engine can also act as a defense system by firing plasma into the face of anyone chasing the vessel equipped with this engine.
- Burst of speed.
- Defense system.
- Low fuel consumption.
- Slow to recharge.
- Power hungry, and requires shut down of other engines to charge and fire.
- Only effective on light freighters and corvettes.
- Large size.
- Requires additional engines for standard flight.
Designed for a new freighter made by Concord Specialized Technologies, the EX-1 Plasma Pulse Engine is a large starship engine that allows ships that it is mounted to to quickly accelerate to maximum sublight speeds. The engine does this by charging plasma and ejecting it in a single, powerful pulse of thrust. The ejected plasma can also be weaponized against close pursuers, but is only effective against corvettes, light freighters, and fighters.
While the engine is powerful, it has many drawbacks. The plasma pulse is slow to charge and recharge, and realistically can only be used once to hit top speed in any engagement. The engine is also large, and requires additional engines for standard flight operations. This engine is also power hungry, and requires all drive power to fire, thus requiring any ship equipped with the EX-1 to shut down its standard engines for the pulse. There is also the issue of the engine being highly specialized to light freighters, with the engine being too larger for fighters, and not providing enough thrust to justify installation on anything larger than a corvette.
