Faction Even Peacekeepers need to know how to fight (any Jedi)

It had been a long time since Tiland had taught a class of normal Jedi, especially padawans. Most often, he taught them more advanced skills to knights and younger masters. But there were times when experience was called for, especially in surviving the battles they fought. With tragedy and war thinning the ranks of more experienced knights and masters, older padawans needed to be more capable of protecting themselves, since there might not be older ones to protect them. And so, he had been called in.

To train padawans and junior knights and oversee practice duels. He had picked the location aboard Peace. One of the training rooms, although he had the droids and computers change it up. Now the room felt alive. All holograms, of course, minus the humidity and intermittent downpours. Tiland greatly appreciated the climate simulation that Alana had got up and running. This would make quite a difference. Training in a sparring room was one thing. But this was to push their limits and capabilities. Wind would blow, simulated trees would topple over, real rain would hammer down on them. Indeed, Tiland's hair and robes were already slick with water as beads of it ran down his face. The old Jedi paid it no mind. And the environment would shift as they moved, bringing in new changes and possibilities. He had picked it for its similarity to Dagobah, where he had fought during the long campaigns between the Knights of Ren and New Jedi Order. If he could have taken them to a real swamp, he would have, but the custodial droids adamantly refused. Next time- field trip.

He leaned on his staff, watching the entryway. The gathering students were already rippling through the Force, waiting for him to open the door and grant them entry. Upon entry, they would be randomly assigned numbers pairing them with another student for a practice duel. He would assess them to ensure some level of parity and set them going. Lightsabers set to stun. But beyond that, no restrictions. It was up to them and their ingenuity. For the least experienced, Tiland would work with them personally.

Checking to see everything was again in order, he nodded and pressed the button next to the door. "Come in and let the practice begin."

Robes and Staff

Karra's eyes fluttered open as the doors in front of her slid apart, revealing the Jedi Master and the training room beyond. She quickly got to her feet and grabbed her walking staff, inserting her saber into the tip and turning it, the satisfying click soothing her ears. She made a mental note to modify ithe staff at some point, build a saber into the tip itself instead of attaching one - one could never have too many sabers in a fight, especially if you were prone to being disarmed. Despite being a healer by nature, Karra knew full well how violent the galaxy could be, and how few people cared about the sanctity of life, much less the unspoken rule of not harming healers. Even without that reasoning though, she liked to fight, the exhilaration and the exertion, the adrenaline pumping through her veins, it made every hair stand on end and brought the world into a laser focus unlike anything else she knew.

She walked into the training room, stopping just short of the rain and holding out a hand to feel the water drip before stepping into its cold embrace. The cold was beautiful, especially on a ship where the temperature was regulated. Already things were interesting, she hadn't sparred in these conditions before, and she had never raised her blade against living people, just droids. Hopefully it would be educational, and even if it wasn't, it was sure to be fun at least.
"Master," She greeted quietly, nodding toward the old master before drawing an apple slice from her robe - the fight would take away from the stress of socializing, but even still, it helped to ease things off a bit with a quick bite.

Zara was down right appalled at what she saw behind those doors. Was?.. Was that a swamp!

"Gods almighty? Eww."

She almost spat at the sight of it. Gross. Since when was Jedi sparring practice supposed to come with a side of brown water. Ugh. She certainly wasn't dressed for a water romp, that was for sure. These were designer clothes Tiland. Designer. Clothes. She was supposed to be fencing today in air conditioning aboard the white-grassed idyllic Peace Station. Not, dumping around in a soggy maelstrom. Blarg.

"Why. Gods. Why me?"

She sighed aloud as the holographic environment swirled just beyond the threshold doors. Surely. She was not the only participate who had just noticed the incriminate weather? Hmmm.

Zara immediately turned and walked back down the hall. Opened a side door. Then took off her fuzzy hat, jacket, and shoulder bag. Neatly leaving all of them in a wicker basket. Now feeling rather underdressed in the next room over. She'd join the practice in little more than her black bodysuit and exotic flight boots. Disgraceful. Yes. But then again. She hadn't exactly gotten the memo about, 'field trip to monsoon island,' today.

She threw her phone into the wicker basket and lazily retraced her steps back to the doors ajar. Wrapping her long hair up into a ponytail and frowning briskly at the moisture to come.

"Okay Kortun. It's your funeral. Here goes nothing."

Zara held her chrome lightsaber against the small of her back and pushed ahead into the simulation. And Force help the poor Padawan or junior Knight who got paired with poor Zara Tate for sparring practice today. I mean. You could say. The scientist was in a very 'damp' mood for fighting.

Heh.

Yeah, and there was more where that came from too. Umph.

Darius did not like conflict. The very nature of it went against his upbringing as a doctor, first with his own people and now with the Jedi. In the ideal galaxy, Darius would never have to use a weapon of any sort, focusing all his efforts on doing the one thing he truly enjoyed. Helping those in need. Sadly, it was not a perfect galaxy. And to do what he needed for those who needed him, he had to be able to defend himself. For him to save the lives of others, he had to learn how to take lives. The decision to attend this combat training weighed heavily on Darius's mind, but he had made his decision.

With the other Jedi in attendance, Darius entered the training room, his eyes narrowing briefly as what he saw around him did not match what he felt. Holographic technology then, it seemed. The concept held merit for training, allowing those participants to practice in a variety of climates and situations without putting themselves in overt risk. Still, the sheer amount of variety he was seeing as he entered the chamber was slightly off-putting.

Unlike some of the others, Darius did not remove any of his clothing or effects, the long brown robe he had grown accustomed to wearing still drawn up around his face, and covering every inch of exposed skin. He did not reach for his lightsaber, instead turning to Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun and bowing his head slightly, his arms folded in front of him. "Master Jedi, it is an honor and pleasure to meet you. I look forward to the wisdom of this day to come." As he spoke Darius inwardly grimaced, his words slipping up once again. He really needed to get used to galactic basic.

Turning to the others, Darius nodded at them briefly, though he watched the overly zealous Jedi with some caution.

Amani followed the other Jedi towards the training room, stopping abruptly in confusion as she peered in to see something that looked decidedly not like a training room. Overhearing one of the others mention the hologram tech, she reached out her hand to feel the rain. It seemed real enough. She chose not to dwell on it, it would at least make for a more natural training session, compared to a sterile and empty practice stage.

Amani knew that she needed to better hone her combat skills if she was to become a great Jedi. She had been holding it off for some time, but knew she needed to get ahead on it despite her own objections. She was a healer, but Jedi were peacekeepers all the same, and keeping said peace sometimes required knowing how to use a lightsaber.

Amani walked over to Tiland Kortun, bowing quickly to greet him. "Greetings, Master. It's an honor," She stumbled over the words a little, but the message got through, good. She quickly moved back to the larger group to blend in, and avoid any unnecessary awkwardness.

Chiassa took a deep breath to calm her nerves, then entered the training room for today's lesson; the near-human's fleshy tendrils swaying gently from side to side as they hung down from the decorative skullcap worn by her kind.

The young Tholothian had only recently arrived at the Jedi Space Station called Peace. Prior to this, Chiassa had been stashed away staying at the hidden Jedi Praxeum on Eira Pechal in the Unknown Regions; brought to that world years before as an Initiate (the only surviving member of her youngling clan) after the sacking of the Coruscant Jedi Temple during the Sith Empire's "Endgame plot" to bring the New Jedi Order down from the inside. The dark-skinned teen was old enough now to be considered a padawan though had yet to be taken officially by a master as their student.

A pair of big blue orbs that sparkled like a rare gem perused over those Jedi that were present as she walked in wearing a simple robe set and a basic lightsaber attached at the slim waist of the female alien. And of course, there wasn't a familiar face in the bunch. Chiassa just shrugged it off as this was usually the case for the teenage girl who tended to be a loner anyway.

The petite padawan gave a respectful cant of her head to the very elder Master Jedi that appeared to be their instructor and then a smaller nod to the others as she came up alongside them when the door was opened to the simulated training scenario.

"Well, this is going to be fun," Chee smirked quietly under her breath as the visage of a swamp appeared before them. She wondered to herself jokingly who would be the mud wrestling champion after this day was over... Now that would be a sight to see, hmm?!

Tiland clasped his hands around his staff as the first four students entered. By the looks of it, his adjustments had caught them by surprise. Good. That had been the plan. Jedi couldn't anticipate things, let alone risk growing complacent in their routine. For all he knew, Peace could be the next target of a Sith strikeforce. So far, they'd been relying on secrecy to keep them safe. But he was too old to rely on that. He assessed the four students. Two knights and two padawans. Excellent.

He would split them into pairs- a knight and padawan, on assignment to rack each other down and capture. That should put their skills to the test and let them leverage their unique skills. "Knight Ino'kane and Padawan Amani, you will be team one. Knight Tate, you will have padawan Tor with you. This is a training simulation. Hunt and capture. Each of your teams are tasked with neutralizing and apprehending both members of the other team."

He quirked his eyebrows at them. None were primarily duelists or combatant Jedi. The knights would be somewhat more experienced, but not quite at this. "This is for dueling practice and experience with things outside your comfort zone. You must trust the Force, your teammate, your instincts. First team has three-"

Tiland paused as Chiassa entered. She was the youngest of the group, and he had to consider it. "Young padawan Chiassa, you'll be with me. We will practice dueling. You're task will be to try and strike me with a training saber." He gave her a small grin and a half-wink. He turned to point to the other two teams. "Thirty seconds until exercise begins."

Ah, so it was going to be Hunger Games was it?

"Fair enough."

Tate turned and ignited her blue lightsaber. Then she suddenly struck two cuts into the holographic environment. Slice! Slice! One on either side of the closing doorway. Creating a glowing line of melting wall. Which, formed a stark contrast in the simulation of swamp rain they were all standing in. Now Zara could judge the distance to the invisible wall. Even inside the sim.

"Much better."

She nodded and turned to Padawan Tor. Her senior in many ways.

"I'll take the Knight. You good with the Paddy?"

Zara pointed towards the others and took a Form V opening stance. She made no effort to hide or otherwise strategize the situation. A fair fight in the ankle-deep water would suffice.

"Dueling practice means we'll go easy on the Force Powers. Just swords on stun for now."

She seemed confident and ready. Even despite her wet hair and soggy disposition.

Karra observed her fellow Jedi as they all entered one by one: Ulnoll, Mirialan, Human, Tholothian. As Master Kortun explained the exercise, the blond drew a small tie and drew her hair back into a tight ponytail, the loosest of strands falling to her face beneath the weight of the rain's droplets. They were in an advantageous environment, provided they could make use of it, and she had a partner. A phantom of a smile passed over her face as the teams were handed out and she nodded toward her instructor.
"Yes Master," She said, hopping up and down for a moment as she loosened up, both inside and out. Now she was starting to enjoy herself a bit, a small smirk finally creasing her lips upward as she struck her staff on the ground, the blazing green light erupting from the tip as she looked at her partner, nodding. "Level playing field, good luck," She said quickly, taking her stance and digging her feet into the mud a little for balance. As things were, she was primed to defend herself and could move either left or right at a moment's notice. Now all she had to do was beat her fellow padawan...

While their opponents were getting ready for a fight, Amani took her time to introduce herself to her new partner.

"You must be, Ino'Kane, then? Did I say that right?" With a quick bow, she introduced herself, "My name's Amani Serys! You can just call me Amani, that's fine. Did he say you're a knight? Cool, I haven't actually ever practiced with a Knight before. I'm still a Padawan myself. I'm looking to be a healer, I guess you could say it's my passion---" Her barrage of pleasantries continued for some time, until she realized the countdown was approaching its end.

"--Oh! Well, I guess we should be getting ready, huh?" Amani re-positioned herself, putting enough space between herself and their opponents to easily react. A blade of green energy ignites as she holds her saber out in front of her. Moving to grip the hilt with two hands, weapon angled forward slightly, Amani immediately places herself in a strong defensive guard. She knew she wasn't a fierce fighter, and she needed to use it to her advantage. No matter what, let the opponent strike first. Play defensively. Bide your time, and wait for the perfect shot. Form III was made for this.

Darius nodded his head as the instructions were given, his hand going to the lightsaber hanging at his hip. As he moved to his sides starting position, he slowed his stride to allow Amani Serys Amani Serys to be able to keep up with him. As they were getting ready, she introduced herself in a torrent of words that bombarded Darius for the briefest moment. He forced himself to blink a few times as she spoke, before nodding his head in greetings as well. "I am Ino'Kane, though that is...how you refer to it as a last name. Please, simply call me Darius. I am a doctor myself, Amani. It is a noble profession. At the end of this, should you have any questions, I will be more than eager to answer the."

As she ignited her saber, turning to face their opponents, Darius did the same. His own green blade jumped forward from the hilt as Darius adjusted his stance slightly. He folded one hand behind his back while holding his saber at the ready with his right hand, the blade angled slightly up and across his body in a defensive pose. Upon seeing the actions of his opponent, Darius glanced around himself as well, getting a feel for the environment. Given the fact things could change at a moment's notice, he figured it would be best to play a defensive battle. Allow the other team to cross to them, and force them to constantly be on the offensive. It would give Darius and his new comrade Amari time to adjust their own tactics.

Darius took a single step forward, placing himself slightly in front of Amani. "They will likely attack us first, Padawan Amani. Stand your ground, but do not root yourself in place. Let them hit and then flow away. Together we can defeat them."

Chiassa listened thoughtfully to the pairing breakdowns of those Jedi present for the purposes of this lightsaber training exercise no less in a swamp-like environment. Well, at least it wasn't in a desert setting where sand gets EVERYWHERE!

Of course, the young teen was the odd man out of the other Knights and more experienced Padawans, but no fear the youngest there would go up against the oldest that being Master Kortun himself, the grandfatherly looking monk who was teaching the class.

"As you wish, Master," Chee answered mindfully with a respectful tone and gentle eyes as they gazed upward looking at him. The padawan caught the elder Jedi Master's small grin and half-wink he gave her.

The petite Tholothian smiled shyly and stepped back, taking a breath in to blow out, centering herself in the Force. She unhooked her training lightsaber from the utility belt worn and got into the starting stance of Lightsaber Form I, which was called Shii-Cho.

Chiassa gripped low on the standard hilt with both hands as taught, then ignited the blue blade bringing the Jedi weapon up into a mid-guard and upright position facing her opponent; booted feet squared on the muddy ground yet ready to move...

Then, the youngling began her attack with a quick downward verticle strike to zone one followed by a horizontal cut to zone two with some umph behind it ramping up with velocity all the while trying to ignore the misty rain that was trickling down her face by now.

Tiland turned to observe the two teams for several moments as they adjusted their stances and began to gauge each other. Excellent. That would keep their focus and attention. He'd give them a few minutes before adding the next level of difficulty. Stun cannons were hidden in the walls behind the foilage representations. Once they got going, he would activate them. Computer targeting. It would track them and different ones were assigned to support the different teams while opposing the other. So some were friendly to each team. Simulate what it was like there on Dagobah when Galactic Alliance and Imperial troops were filling the swampy jungle with blaster fire.

But he shifted his focus to his sparring partner. Shii-cho, all according to the book. Well taught, but not yet experienced enough to go beyond that. Tiland stood still as she began the array of strikes. The staff was held loosely in one hand, but he didn't deflect with that. Instead, he moved. Not very much. He pivoted on one foot away from the overhead strike, so the blade sizzled past him. As the movement shifted to horizontal cuts, he simply stepped back out of range. As her attack speed sped up, Tiland finally reacted.

One hand tightened on the staff and flicked outwards, sending the base of the staff flying upwards, aiming to come in under her lightsaber blade. At the same time, Tiland stepped forward to push it towards her. "Excellent shii-cho technique."

Zara nodded to her partner's readiness and took a deep breath to observe the countdown. Giving a slight nod of her head in salute to all parties. Then slowly switching her stance to better reflect a fencer's grip. In Ataru, or Form IV.

When it came time to begin. Zara slowly closed easily to one sword distance with her opponent. Then slowly advanced upon Darius with her sword pointed forward, right hand palm up. She waggled the tip side-to-side mere centimeters playfully as she advanced. Her eyes watching her opponent for good timing and a fencer's tell.

She would begin by subverting his guard. Very slowly sliding her rigged flat blade right into his guard. Her feet easily balanced to control distance.

This technique was used as a test of Darius' preferred timing during combat. She was testing to see at what distance he would react to the steady penetration and whether or not he would give ground.

However, should Darius wait too long to react and her sword breach his guard too deeply? She would quickly jump for his lead shoulder to disable it. Though, this was wildly unlikely. As, only rookies ever failed to react in such a manner. Yet the threat of a quick lunge to the neck or head was what always caused this slow advancing technique to be so effective.

She used no Force Powers to conceal her intent or empower the body.

Karra stared down the distance, keeping her eyes locked on her fellow padawan as she began to inch closer. With each step, she would twirl and flurry her staff seemingly absent-mindedly, but it was actually a Saberstaff variant of Soresu, ensuring that she had some momentum for the first strike against her, as well as having a good position for wherever she would try to strike. She also switched sides on occasion too, keeping the movements random, leaning into her left and right sides with each switch. She made no real move against her though, she had no intention of striking first, all she was doing was keep her guessing. It was just a matter of who would strike first.

((OOC: I have no idea how to fight xD))

Amani stuck to her guns in spite of Karra's feints. Already the nerves were setting in. She had to fight the urge to make some sort of movement against, a block, a strike, something. Her instincts told her to do anything, but she waited as still as possible, watching Karra's every move for the moment she pushes in.

If there was one thing Amani was determined to hold to in this spar, it was her defensive start. No matter what, she would not give it up until the duel was in full swing.

It seemed the two padawans were stuck in a standoff.

(OOC: I also have no idea what I'm doing lol)

Tiland stepped back away from the small engagement with Chiassa, giving her room to assess the events that had happened and reset her form, or her idea. The other two padawans were caught in a stalemate, trying to probe each other's defenses and gain a better sense of what they were doing. He gave them a few moment's of consideration and then pressed another button on his gauntlet, activating the shifting platforms under their feet.

Around the room, different pillars would activate and moved along the floor, extending upwards, from the side, constantly moving, while lasers set to zap fired from the walls through the simulated jungle, targeting them. No more standing around and testing. They'd have to start moving and adjusting. Else they'd get zapped and stunned.

It appeared Zara's careful offensive would have to wait.

Stun lasers were engaged and fired out from the foliage. So Zara switched to a much more flair-oriented side of Ataru. She began backing up and deflecting lasers to her right with her sword while deflecting lasers to her left with her hand.

She attuned her senses to the direction and location of the oncoming fire. Mapping out the laser grid with her mind. Meanwhile, Darius became something of a background concern.

Given enough time and left unchecked to her own machinations, Zara was sure to note the location of the lasers and engage them with gusto. LASER SMASH!

She dained not interfere with Karra Tor Karra Tor and Amani Serys Amani Serys 's duel. Not while Darius Ino'Kane Darius Ino'Kane was still an unknown factor.

Darius had just begun to bring is saber up to parry the initial strike of his opponent when the room began to shift again, creating new levels of danger for him to deal with. Folding his left hand behind his back, Darius quickly began to move backward away from Zara Tate while still keeping his body facing her as best he could. He did not try to deflect the stun shots as they began firing off, instead focusing all his effort on remaining mobile, while keeping his guard up against the other Jedi Knight.

He did not wish to go on the offensive yet, especially given the general hostile nature of his opponent. Better to keep on guard and allow her to expose more of her personal style and technique. Only when he had learned all he could and an opportunity presented itself would he strike.

Amani had gotten so focused that she was nearly hit by one of the lasers right away. Flicking her eyes to see the oncoming bolt, she sprung her head back, getting out of the way just in time. Okay, time to loosen up a little. Probably should have figured it wouldn't be that easy, anyway. At the very least, it may be an opportunity to surprise her opponent.

She ran in an arc around Karra Tor Karra Tor , intending to move behind her. The abrupt change in position was more to get Karra to make a move, though Amani was ready to take a quick strike if she could actually get all the way behind her without much resistance. Maybe the incoming lasers combined with Amani's sudden switch in strategy could catch her off guard.
