SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Simple design features stabilized core and crystal magnification system, together with “Plug-and-Play” design, making routine maintenance and repair easy and quick.
  • Essentially the same as the Heartsblood-CPM, the Eternal Heart is an even smaller footprint, only 4% of the space required by other reactors, using a microfusion pile rather than Iso-5 as its fuel source, enabling it to operate much longer and require no future resupply of fuel.
  • Uses a microfusion pile, allowing for terrific fuel efficiency and eliminating the need for fuel storage space; further extended by use of Sybarium crystal power magnification secondary system which enables small reactor to produce immense output with very minimal fuel cost.
  • Able to be sized for any ship type, variant, configuration, or class.

STRENGTHS:

  • Easy maintenance design allows quick repairs and for parts to be easily found or fabricated and for routine upkeep to be performed effortlessly and quickly.
  • Stabilized core is highly resistant to damage and accidents.
  • Stabilized crystal magnification system prevents accidents and degradation while providing extreme power output with minimal fuel consumption, enabling extreme fuel efficiency and lifespan.
  • Micronized design is just under 4% of space required by conventional reactors, yet is able to produce far more energy and is vastly superior in longevity to standard hypermatter annihilation reactor cores found on large capital ships, meaning it can provide ample power to numerous systems without concern of overburdening the system.
  • “Plug-and-Play” design can be implemented aboard most any ship configuration, type, or size with relative ease.
  • Power flow distribution and management increases efficiency and allows ‘on-demand’ redistribution, able to shift between systems and back again seamlessly in mere seconds.
  • Running 'colder' than its predecessors, the Eternal Heart is ideal for ships wanting a lowered heat signature.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Single fuel type (i.e. multifusion pile) means alternative fuels are not compatible with this design.
  • Significant damage to the casing may result in radiation leak(s) that if not promptly and properly responded to may cause serious damage to both ship and crew.
  • Due to its simplified design and workability, it yields incredible vulnerability to an onboard saboteur to easily disable or tamper with this system.
  • Is limited in size of Sybarium crystals which can be used in this design, preventing larger crystals from being installed; Attempts to ‘overpower’ this system by doing so can have catastrophic results leading to cascading systems failures and/or potential full-system shutdown and damage.
  • Despite its incredible output and exceptional longevity, this reactor still has limitations and placing a variant too powerful aboard a ship may overload systems catastrophically. (Example: An Eternal Heart designed to power a 3000m ship but placed aboard a 1500m ship will likely rapidly overload that ship’s systems creating shipwide malfunctions and problems unless that ship is using enough high-demand systems to require such a powerful reactor). This mistake has caused many an enthusiastic boffin to install a larger-than-needed reactor onboard a ship, thinking it would mean ‘surplus power’ only to discover that she’s burned out and overloaded 80-90% of the ship’s systems. Extreme calculation of need versus supply is required when considering the variant size to install aboard a ship.
  • Power redistribution / recalibration may require a few seconds’ time to complete, thereby creating a ‘pause’ to systems functions while this is carried out, during which a serious vulnerability may be found.
  • Due to delicate balancing act required with this reactor, upgrading the systems aboard ships where it is used too greatly will overwhelm the specific calibration limits and result in a total systems shutdown, possibly damaging the reactor in the process. In order for a ship to be upgraded outside of its uppermost limit scale, a total replacement of the reactor is needed, calibrated for the new specifications.
DESCRIPTION:

The Heartsblood Reactor was a quantum leap forward in power plant design, but the development of Roble Manufacturing’s innovative Sybarium Synthetic Energy Crystals opened the door for one even greater. The Sybarium crystals, when focusing lasers were directed through, would amplify power output exponentially, meaning that for the fuel cost of a tiny focusing laser extraordinary power could be had. By marrying this technology with her own Heartsblood Reactor, the result was an incredibly powerful yet wildly micronized system, able to operate for years – perhaps decades – on a fraction of the Isotope-5 used to power the previous incarnation of the Heartsblood.

Able to provide astronomical amounts of power, the Heartsblood-CPM could easily and efficiently ensure ample supply to scores of systems and the most powerful of weapons and engines with ease. This meant that any ship on which it was installed could be virtually bristling with advanced systems, powerful components, and yet handle them all effortlessly.

Yet, it was just this incredible output and exceptional management that give rise to the biggest concerns. Any attempt to ‘enhance’ or ‘boost’ this output further would risk ship-wide damage and potentially catastrophic results. Carefully balancing the Heartsblood-CPM with the exact systems and power needed was not optional, and should significant upgrades be made to that ship, further recalculation is required.

So, when the breakthrough allowing the Heartsblood-CPM to be powered using a microfusion pile was made, the production of the Eternal Heart was launched. The new Eternal Heart was just as powerful but the replacement of the fuel source enabled even greater micronization and efficiency, and offered to produce a starship reactor that would do away with the need for fuel supplies, as the pile was a near-infinite source of energy. However, this meant the Eternal Heart was limited to just this one type of fuel and once calibrated, upgrades exceeding the calibration limits would require replacing the reactor entirely.
