Establishing Relations

Earlier this evening, I invited folks from the Commonwealth to join our humanitarian mission to Tasariq, but then I was told by their FO that they currently view us as enemies. For some reason IC, even though there was a public message by Thurion and trial, they're still under the impression that the SJO intentionally attacked Korriban City, when that couldn't be further from the case.

It's been suggested before that we reach out to the other factions and establish diplomatic relations IC, and I think it's about time that we revisit this topic after all the shenanigans we've been dealing with recently. We've been letting outside parties run with their version of events on Korriban, so I think it's time that we set the record straight. This is a good time to engage the GA, as they are under the leadership of a new FO who seems like a decent character from what I've seen.

Having a few issue with the net today, so I will be brief.

Firstly the Commonwealth seem to be buddy buddies with the First Order now, so not sure how far an alliance would go with them, but we can find out behind the scenes to see if it would be worth our time to RP with them. The same goes for the GA as well.

I am all for establishing IC relations but I am jaded with the amount of times I have seen "alliances made" and then abandoned over reasons purely ooc or when the time comes to live up to promises/pledges/agreements it is "well what have you done for me lately" instead of wanting to actually make a story requiring ooc things to be given. Or well just have yourself in charge with an alt that can influence as many factions have been doing to dictate what they want. Since we are being set up as the new board punching bag for harassment it will be an uphill battle to try and convince others to go against the latest trend.

Making alliances always ends up being trickier than people think because of how difficult people can be about it, but with the GA's new owner I agree we ought to at least try with them. Commonwealth I don't really know about an alliance if they're pally with the First Order, but a diplomatic thing to set the record straight would be in order and perhaps a skirmish or two.

Thurion and myself are in a thread with Lady Kay now, in Ryn's master thread. So I am sure we will get to speak with her there. And maybe after that thread is done, we can do something more 'formal'.

Would it be possible, or would there be any interest in, a thread (council meeting, etc) to establish what our characters would reasonably know about the attack? Such as, any identified participants, their technology, where their ships came from/were going...

That would give us a baseline of in-character facts we could use as we pursue relations.

In addition to the SJO, I'm active in the Kathol Outback with Alec Rekali, and plan to attempt an overture to Clan Rekali with the hopes of establishing a diplomatic dialogue that seems to have been missing since the attack on Ilum, the evacuation of Yavin 4, and our stand-off with the Mando Clans during our efforts at aiding the evacuation.

Also, I'm a member of the GA for business reasons. [member="Audren Sykes"] is a member of the GA who participates in threads with the New Jedi Order. Perhaps one or both of us could approach them as representatives of the SJO (they already have standing representatives from the Corellian Jedi, the Jensaari, and the Jedi Academy Network).

I think their relationship with the First Order is more of a safeguard against them being invaded in the future with the FO being next door, so we're fine there. The FO wants to keep their heads down because they know they're currently the next biggest target after the SJO. The relationship I'm worried about is the one the Commonwealth has with the Mandalorians. Realistically, I don't expect much out of the Commonwealth at this point (they don't want the Mando circus coming to their corner of space), but I'd like to make sure they know the truth about events and remain neutral in future conflicts against our adversaries. That's really my aim here, not necessarily making alliances but just building a rapport to ease feelings of animosity. Right now, people seem keen on trying hate on the SJO like they did the GR, and I definitely do not want to see any abuse like that again.

If you would allow it, and if the Commonwealth is open to it, then I'd like to talk to their leadership IC as [member="Rozalyne Kurganova"]. If a council member could join me, then that would be great.

Since I was present at the raid with a couple of my characters, I don't mind starting up the thread like we discussed over Skype. I just need to wrap up things in the raid with one more post first.

TKO totally slipped my mind, thanks for bringing them up. They've been pretty good about hitting the Sith whenever they show up nearby.

And I'm not really worried about the TKO. To start with, its just the Major Faction name for the Underground. It's not really a government, and you can't really have formal diplomatic relations with a non-state actor. However, [member="Joza Perl"] and I are both active over there, so we have an informal presence that I think suffices.

There hasn't been much discussion from the TKO concerning the Silvers, and where they would side during a potential invasion. If the Silvers would like to reach out to the TKO OOCly, I'm more than willing to discuss it with the other TKO staff.

I feel like they'd be more likely to help if we get hit with a Sith invasion vs Mandos, but I could be wrong.

Also, [member="Sor-Jan Xantha"] and I would make the absolute best ambassador team.
