Description:
The most powerful vehicle that Ultimatum designed. With the intent of overpowering any obstacle in its path, Escutcheons are built to combat most forms of resistance that a standing galactic power could throw at them. As a vanguard for most battles, these tanks are supposed to go in front of lesser forces in order to weaken the enemy forces and have the enemy focus fire on it.

An Escutcheon was initially designed after the older Desolation artillery, with armor intended to resist all but the most powerful of fire. In order to ensure that the tank could survive most onslaughts the armor was given 30 centimeters of Duranium. The armor maintains many of the curves and angles that made the Desolation resistant to anti-armor launchers and kinetic piercers. Of course, with the increase in armor thickness, not to mention weapons and various systems, came an increase in weight. As with its predecessor, these tanks are capable of simply running over most forms of emplacements and fortifications. The added weight brought the danger of complete immobility, thus three tracks on either side helped begin to spread out the weight and a light Repulsorlift took more weight off of the ground allowing it to move somewhat freely. The vehicle still destroys ground and roads that it travels over and is incapable of using most bridges due to the weight issue. However, the tank is still little more than a barely mobile emplacement. It can be used as a defensive position to maintain a line or as a slow forward assault tank and many things in between.

The main weapon and selling point for this tank is the duel Heavy-Turbolasers that are placed on a large turret atop the tank’s frame. The two cannons are of the same type as is found on cruise in naval battles. This gives it a distinct advantage against most other vehicles, emplacements, and even some starcraft if they come within reach of its weapons. The heat caused by the weapon is such that if anyone on top of the tank behind the turret is caught in a wave of usually lethal heat.

Of course, the reliance upon a single overtly powerful cannon is a weakness that would easily be turned against it. In order to ensure that it is not a pushover, the tank has been armed with several other weapons to cover such things as infantry attacks, vehicle flanking, and aerial strikes. The next most powerful weapon after the main cannon is a single anti-tank gun built into a smaller turret that faces the rear with the ability to turn 90 degrees in an arc. The shells fired from this smaller turret utilize the well proven kinetic penetrator method, specifically the use of the fin-stabilized discarding sabot system. The gun can accomplish a shot every five seconds with a single loader, every three seconds with two loaders, and one every second with well-trained loaders.

After that are the 3 anti-aircraft machine cannons on either side. These small guns fire fast and hard, intended to penetrate Starfighter armor and lighter shielding. This makes them ideal for infantry threats. In order to maintain this, the small turrets they are attached to can rotate an entire 360 degrees and an elevation arc of -25 to 125 degrees.

The final piece of weaponry aboard these vehicles are the two light mortars attached in the loading bay. When the roof is retracted, the two mortars can fire in a small arc towards the front of the tank up to 50 meters. The main purpose of these is to launch smoke rounds or similar in order to either grant cover to the tank in emergencies, or to deter enemies from remaining near the front of the tank.

The vehicle is designed with the main turret on the front of the vehicle as a counter to the heavy engine and loading bay towards the rear. The engine is of the same sort as found in Starfighters, merely scaled down in size in order to conserve space. This engine uses hypermatter annihilation in order to run, thus requiring that the owners of the tank have access to fuel source for such an engine. The nature of engine also makes it a prime target for sabotage. While directly attacking the engine is almost certainly out of the question, if someone could enter the tank and knew their way through the tight twisting passages, the engine would show itself to be an explosion waiting to happen. Should this occur, the engine would detonate with such force that its thick armor would be rent asunder and it would act akin to an overly large fragmentation grenade. The loading ramp is a rather large area that allows for the storage of two speederbikes, or a single small vehicle, as well as enough supplies to keep the tank running for a while. The roof of the loading bay can be retracted in order to allow the mortars to fire. These tanks also have a small field infirmary for emergency medical attention. It is equipped with basic care systems and the necessary devices usually found in most field hospitals. The infirmary can house three wounded individuals.

When normal crew members are unavailable or incapacitated, the onboard computer is capable of continuing functioning. The computer controls all functions of the craft however it is less efficient for it. The computer can communicate and coordinate with those of other ships over comm frequencies, however its standard functionality is restricted to a closed circuit system with no wireless connection. This limits the ability to hack into the computer to only those who have physical access to one of the tank's terminals. While hacking is a possibility, the ship's encryption system does make it more difficult for the uninitiated. Nonetheless, a skilled hacker should find it relatively easy to break through the system. Though at the end of the day it remains easier to simply target the engine as a method of disabling the craft.

Inspired by the Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte designs.

So on the surface here are the problems :

 • Too heavy to move. You move it, this thing is tearing up the ground. Even in the best conditions it won't be going anywhere.
 • 20 inches of plating? Thats nearly two feet. Thats incredibly heavy and unnecessary.
 • Mass produced wouldn't even been possible in this situation.
 • Turbolasers on capital ships? This isn't going to fly either.

So without severe edits this won't be allowed to pass through the factory.

Alright so I adjusted several parts to fit within what you have brought up:

Firstly the production is Limited now
Second plating thickness has been lowered to 30 cm, which is only 5 cm more than the real life concept
Weight has been dropped down to 1.3 million kg and a minor Repulsorlift has been added to try and counter it

What would you suggest about lowering the turbolaser but still keeping the same effect?

I think it will work but in my (humble) opinion this thing only needs to be semi-mobile and difficult to move. I think there would be less problems if it was something that plopped on the ground with supports and fired.

Okay I made the change to a cruiser turbolaser and based on your suggestion I have adjusted the post to make the vehicle a barely moving emplacement effectively.

How is that?

I'm going to go on a limb and say pending approval, only due to its now near-stationary set up to help balance out the strengths.

Hallo! Small question. The computer ran capabilities on the tank is a cool concept, but if you could for clarification add a bit about it. Is it done remotely? Does it have a distance max/min? Is it vulnerable to hacking? Also if there's nothing protecting it from hacking and the like I think you can slip that into its weaknesses or if it does toss a bit into the strengths. I really enjoyed the concept, just curious about the computer controlling it.

Other than that, it's pretty solid.

Thank you, I have added a respective point to both the Strengths and Weaknesses. The following paragraph I have put into the description:

When normal crew members are unavailable or incapacitated, the onboard computer is capable of continuing functioning. The computer controls all functions of the craft however it is less efficient for it. The computer can communicate and coordinate with those of other ships over comm frequencies, however its standard functionality is restricted to a closed circuit system with no wireless connection.
