"Or it breaks us."
That was a scenario he could not fathom as possible, or rather - did not want to. A potential reality he was not ready to face, nor accept. One that Dagon had been actively fighting with tooth and nail against, even if it felt like trying to swim against the current. His eyes had averted away into the distance at the Coruscanti heights that the turbolift continuously climbed on its slow and long ride up.
In the corners of his vision, the Jedi noticed Kyra's own struggle aired through words. He felt his guts tighten into a knot when she divulged to him what had happened to Romi. Sickened, but unable to say anything back. He could only listen and despair. If we can't save ourselves, how can we save anyone else? That paradigm struck a chord deep inside, made him cringe - all this time he had been running; running from his problems by trying to solve others' own. It seemed selfless, but Master Sunstrider had called it selfish. To Sunstrider, Dagon was simply coping.
Trying to escape.
"I'm sorry to hear that...about Romi.." he finally whispered when the last of the others around had left the lift, while it continued its journey up to where no one really went.
He allowed silence to reign for a long moment before turning his eyes back to her, "Maybe we aren't supposed to be saved, Kyra, maybe that is the price we pay to serve the galaxy." that was the truth Dagon believed stubbornly, whether that was so or not - he refused to rattle his worldview. Even if deep inside that truth was far from clear cut.
The doors of the lift opened and Dagon froze in stupor. Gaping at the rooftop before them which revealed the endless vista of the sprawling city, the padlock holding back the sorrow-filled memories shattered to pieces releasing the demons. Ayana; the sun sheds its final rays of light upon the city, they exchange no words, she rests her head on his shoulder and he understands the missing piece is finally found. In every part of his, there’s a part of her.
After Ossus, he'd sworn to never come here again.
This was sacred ground. And he was a sinner.
"We shouldn't be here, we need to go. Somewhere-- anywhere, but here."
