OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Greystone Mercantile
  • Affiliation: The Shadows | Will of the Emperor
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: Empyrean Contracts
  • Modularity: Significant; can be a traditional written contract, a contract carved into a stone tablet, or even a sleek aurodium disk that records the verbal or telepathic agreement of two unconventional signators. Any given Contract's power largely depends on the participants' power.
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Paper, Flimsiplast, Human Skin, Stone, Gold, Aurodium, etc. | Slivers of Force Essence
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • See below.
STRENGTHS
  • Pacta Sunt Servanda: Empyrean Contracts are made mystically binding with the infusion of the tiniest sliver of its signators' Force Essences, allowing them to lash out at contractual breaches through tangible expressions of power. Furthermore, they are well-suited for dealing in more arcane assets like "memories, hope, Luck, Souls, Soul Futures, willing servitude, firstborn children, and unlisted securities."
WEAKNESSES
  • Soulless Need Not Apply: Droids, the Force Dead, and others who lack a traditional Force Essence cannot make use of these contracts.
  • Contractual Nullification: Empyrean Contracts lack the capacity to enforce their clauses if they or their targets are within the presence of a Ysalamiri, Void Stone, or equivalent; powerful Force Users, Force Nexuses, and strange phenomena may also provide interference.
  • Documentation is All: Unlike conventional agreements, these Contracts are null and void if the document itself is destroyed*.
  • Dubious Legality: These contracts may be seen as unconscionable by mortal courts, excepting Sith/Muuns/Neimoidians.
  • Crimen Falsi: Attempting to forge one of these or a signator's agreement tends to go horribly, horribly wrong.
DESCRIPTION
Inspired by various mythological "deals with the devil", Greystone's Sorcerers set out to make fact from fiction; while these may well be pulled from "thin air" or manifested in burst of fire and showmanship, the truth is that most are made by specialised Weavers and subject to the most exacting of professional standards. The true source of their power is not this process, however, but the slightest sliver of the signators' very
souls.

This fact is very rarely pointed out to mortal signators, due to the "strange taboos" many hold as far as the soul is regarded; given the tiny size of the extraction and the fact that it "probably grows back quite quickly", side effects are all but unheard of, potential punitive clauses notwithstanding.

It is strongly advised that would-be users read up on "Netherwordly contract law" or use agreements determined by intent, not the letter of the law.

*Contingency clauses may apply, please read the fine print.
NB! This submission is purposefully vague so as to facilitate cooperative roleplaying; just because a character has agreed to something before does not mean their writer cannot retract said agreement. These are only as binding as both sides agree they are. Period.
