Ember Rekali was born and raised among the wandering Vahla, aware of his predilection for the Dark Side of the Force from an early age. At the age of fourteen, he was caught in between the Ember of Vahl and a wandering Nightsister named Sira Ves, the clone donor of @[member="Rave"]. Ember was captured and subjugated, alongside a handful of other Vahla youth including a girl named Kol. Ember's training began in earnest, though not intentionally; the young Vahla captive learned his mistress's arts by observation, but was unable to overthrow or escape her until her death at the hands of a Jedi Master named Lyn-Char Beorht. By this point -- relatively close to the present day -- Ember was nearly twenty, a Knight in all but name. He and Kol married soon after their freedom was achieved, and Beorht took them as his Padawans.
However, Lyn Beorht was a Dark Jedi Master by almost any measurement, taking out his own guilty past on Darksiders large and small, and though he tried to teach Ember and Kol the Jedi way, he introduced them to the Light Side while falling further himself. At the culmination of their efforts, @Ia'raklane Beorht cast them down for the Sith Empire, and Kol was believed dead.
Ember and his Master, humbled and tired, wandered without seeking close ties with the Jedi Order. They served without recognition during disaster relief efforts on the world of Bo'Riyo. Both became devoted, if guilt-ridden, Lightsiders. It was in this state that they encountered the kidnapped Padawan @Ashin Varanin; for further details of their exploits, see her biography. Suffice it to say that Ember spent a good deal of time serving with her in the Unknown Regions, and became closely affiliated with a small government known as the Jade Worlds. It was under their aegis that he travelled, seeking other Force traditions. He learned from the Keetael, a Draethos Force tradition revolving around hunting and tracking. For a time, he learned from @Je'gan Olra'en, the Fallanassi apostate, and gained a certain measure of stealth abilities. He even studied with a Duinuogwuin briefly, permitting him to never be lost. Though he meant to study with the Gand Findsmen, events interfered, and Ember was reunited with his wife, Kol.
Their first son, @Rach Kol-Rekali, was born during an extragalactic expedition to a star cluster near one of the seven satellite galaxies. This star cluster was unique, similar to the Tyus Cluster; within it, time ran far more quickly. The three-week expedition took several years to complete, and Ember returned to the Jade Worlds with Kol and several small children. The youngest member of the family, a daughter named Benna, was born upon their desperate return to the hyperspatially locked-off star cluster, in pursuit of a Dark Side cultist named Kishkumen. Trapped on an uninhabited world in this cluster, Ember and his family lived for close to two decades, in a state of constant low-tech war.
When they emerged, the war spread into the Unknown Regions, and it was only with the intervention of @Ashin Varanin -- then a fugitive Sith Lord, not yet Empress -- that they prevailed. These enemies were the Cult of Shadow, the same Cult responsible for the Sith Poison variant that cut Ashin off from the Light Side of the Force forever. Ember was shaped by decades of conflict against the Cult, a bitter life marked by his wife's crippling and his son Rach's fall from grace. Kol was eventually killed by a Dark Master named Darius Malakai, one of @Velok's greatest teachers. Malakai also kidnapped, then taught Rach, eventually giving him the dubious gift of the memories Malakai had absorbed from Kol at the moment of her death. This drove an irreversible wedge between Rach and Ember, both of whom were grieving the loss of young Faran Kol-Rekali, the third child in the family.
But Ember, Nightsister-trained Vahla though he was, predisposed to the Dark Side in every way, clung to the Light. He and Kol had sworn that they would cherish each other, but never seek to avenge each other. The spirit of his wife kept him company once he proved to himself that he could continue on as a Lightsider.
With Faran dead, and Certh and Benna safely ensconced in the Jedi Order's care, Ember attempted to fulfil the Jedi role that Lyn Beorht had wanted for him. He was named a Jedi Master and served briefly on the Council, as well as spending time in the Jedi Shadows. Ultimately, however, his ties to the Unknown Regions drew him to another duty. He went to war, there, against the Sith group which Ashin Varanin was in the process of betraying, and he served as her right hand as she executed a Sith Purge throughout the Unknown Regions. When she departed to begin her long game in the Sith Empire, Ember remained.
And began to watch. Disillusioned with the Republic after the conquest of Cato Neimoidia and the dirty war on Contruum, he considered the Order a good, safe place for his children, but he himself lacked a place to call home. He remains on the fringes of the Order, still a Jedi Master in the logs but unable and unwilling to commit. He has returned to Dathomir once or twice, but never found a true home there, either.
Ember Rekali -- fast and quiet runner, unrelenting tracker, child of half a dozen worlds -- is well into middle age. He feels he is waiting for something, and does not know what.
