STRENGTHS
  • Big Guns — The Emancipator was built to punch above its size. The Emancipator was equipped with powerful long-ranged weaponry to puncture through the shields and armored hulls of enemy capital ships from a safe distance.
  • High Speed — The Emancipator was designed with a winged aft to allow the shipbuilders to install additional StarDrive engines to provide the star defender with an immense speed advantage.
  • Hidden Bridge — The Emancipator’s command center is located within the safety of the main hull of the star defender.
  • Slave Circuit — With its onboard droid circuit the Emancipator requires a smaller crew.
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Hangar Bay — The Emanciapator has a confined hangar bay. Due to the nature of the space, this star defender is unable to carry a large complement of starfighters, and due to the lack of a tractor beam, the Emancipator is ill-suited to engage in search-and-rescue or capture missions.
  • Starfighters — The Emancipator lacks anti-starfighter emplacements, which leaves the vessel vulnerable to starfighter harassment.
  • Exposed Rear — The Emancipator does not have any weapon emplacements on the aft, which leaves the StarDrive engines vulnerable to enemy harassment.

DESCRIPTION
The Emancipator project was initiated to address the problem of Imperial fortress worlds, which were frequently found to be protected by a fleet of capital ships. Early on during the design process, the design team decided to sacrifice point-defense systems and instead concentrate all the offensive power on heavy-hitting guns to tear through planetary shields and wreak havoc on enemy capital ships.

One of the challenges that emerged in simulations, the Emancipator could deal damage, but couldn’t take it. To remedy this, the designers decided to reduce interior storage and the hangar bays. This allowed them to strengthen the integral structures and thicken the hull. This provided the design with the durability to withstand enemy fire.

The design team decided to give the Emancipator a winged aft, reminiscent of the MC80 Star Cruiser, in order to install more sublight engines. The intention was to give the Emancipator the ability to create great distance between it and an enemy ship, so it can continue to harass from afar.
