A personalised Norr Ellbow (x)
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create another ancestral weapon of war used by the Norr; these bows are unique to their culture as they are constructed of hollow metal that requires the tremendous physical strength of its' designers to utilise effectively; the result is a bow that delivers considerable kinetic energy on target and widely available throughout their society.

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Hollow-metal construction.
STRENGTHS
  • Impalement: Each projectile used with the Ellbow is functionally a giant metal rod with a mono-molecular edge on its' point; when impacting unarmoured or lightly armoured humanoid targets, the arrow is liable to impale them. This effect can be exploited when fighting in a close-quarters environment where a target can be pinned into a structure and immobilised. Impalement-type injuries require a very high level of care and tie up significant resources to stabilise and treat casualties.
  • Kinetic Energy: At close range, the arrows loosed from the bow have tremendous kinetic energy behind them, about 700 joules, comparable to a powerful hand slugthrower cartridge.
  • Mono-Molecular Edge: Arrows designed to be used as ammunition for the Ellbow have edges on their heads that are honed into a single molecule's thickness; these arrows, thus, when loosed, have a credible threat of penetrating modern armour made from typical ceramics, metals and polymers.
WEAKNESSES
  • Arms Recoiling: The Ellbow's flexible hollow metal arms groan loudly when drawn under the immense strength of the user, and when the bowstring is released, they make a cacophonous 'whoomph' sound that can be distinctly heard fifty metres away in a standard atmosphere. The force of the arms elastically snapping to their original position is violent and intolerable for most humanoids, precluding its use by lesser species if they could overcome the colossal draw-weight.
  • Loading: As a relatively unsophisticated bow design, there is no magazine; the user must load each projectile manually, typically from a quiver, onto the bow's frame.
  • Projectile velocity: Compared to the likes of conventional firearms or directed energy weapons, the projectiles loosed from the Ellbow are very low-velocity projectiles and can be readily avoided at a range where each one-hundred metres translates roughly into an additional second of telegraphed travel time, provided the targets sees them coming.
DESCRIPTION
Bows constructed by the Norr use hollow metal and are called 'Ellbows'; the shape of the bow is cast and then worked more finely by their warsmiths. The result is a bow a full Norr 'ell' long or 114 centimetres long from tip to notch. Steel bows can store dramatically more energy than their wood counterparts, many of which threaten to or outright break under the strength of the Norr, necessitating this type's invention. The loosing of the Steel Bow cracks like a whip, extraordinarily difficult to conceal without the rancour of ambient noise, and its' projectile flies forth with an astonishing velocity, typically no less than one-hundred metres per second. Arrows fired from the Ellbows of Frysk can punch through most common ceramic, metal and polymer-based armour forms. Modern Norr arrows designed and manufactured for use with the Ellbow are constructed from Aluminium and come in two distinct types: The "fixed-edge" design, which has two or more mono-molecular edges that are fixed to the head and the "floating-edge" design, which like the fixed edge, has two or more mono-molecular edges that are attached to the head, but with the appropriate tools can be replaced. The Ellbow is the staple and classical ranged weapon of Norr society, and all children of the Ryk are drilled religiously on its use. Owning an Ellbow among the Norr of the Ryk is considered a civic duty.

Hello I shall be handling this.

Effective Range: ~200-1200 Metres @Standard Gravity (Long Range-Battlefield).

I consulted with the resident factory weapons expert and he said for a bow at best the effective range should be 200 meters. Above that a compound bow was mentioned.Since this uses projectiles, and the barest of technologies for it. You are going to need a canon example of a bow firing in star wars at these long distances or to drastically lower it.

Hey mate, I punched it down to 200-300 metres. I hope that will be acceptable.

Alright it looks better, durasteel being on the low end makes its damage fine. Just remember that most modern armors in star wars like duraplast were stronger or beskar... and that damage is determines by the defender.
