Electromagnetic Torpedo Launch System

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

PRODUCTION INFORMATION

 • Manufacturer: Mon Calamari Shipyards

 • Model: Electromagnetic Torpedo Launch System

 • Affiliation: Closed-market - Any character can use this if they have explicit permission through, for example, a marketplace purchase | Available for Contracted Use

 • Modularity: Not really

 • Production: Mass-produced

 • Material: Durasteel, electromagnets, electronics

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

 • Classification: Launch System

 • Size: Ship-mounted

 • Length: Large enough for guided proton torpedoes

 • Weight: Large enough for guided proton torpedoes

 • Ammunition Type: Standard-sized torpedoes, or guided proton torpedoes

 • Ammunition Capacity: Each battery has 4 launch cells capable of containing 4 guided proton torpedoes OR 8 heavy proton torpedoes OR 24 standard, for-fighters torpedoes at a time per tube, but it can be linked to automated loaders and storage so that these torpedoes can be easily replaced

 • Effective Range: Technically, once fired an electromagnetically propelled torpedo will keep flying until it strikes an object. For more general purposes, the actual effective range depends on targeting systems and guidance on-board torpedoes, but it is more than capable of exceeding the range of long-ranged turbolasers.

 • Rate of Fire: Can launch 4 guided proton torpedoes per launch cell; capable of launching 4 torpedoes at a time, with a few moments between reload for the smaller torpedoes

SPECIAL FEATURES

 • Versatile Arrangement - Can be organized in many different forms. The electromagnetic torpedo launch system can be used for assault proton torpedoes, or can be used in the form of proton torpedo batteries to turn capital ships into torpedo boats.

 • Electromagnetic Catapult - Using two electromagnetic launch rings, the ELTS is capable of propelling a torpedo at speeds that approach 10,000 km/h, making this capital ship weapon capable of targeting other capital ships even with standard torpedoes.

 • Redundant Launch Systems - The electromagnetic launch system’s has two opportunities to accelerate the torpedo using its namesake method. Because it relies on both to accelerate the torpedo to full speed, it will cut speed down in half, but the redundant launch system further in the tube is protected well enough that most weaponry that targets it likely won’t destroy that portion of the torpedo the first time around.

 • Versatile Launch System - The ETLS featured the capacity to make a standard launch, or even to make a standard launch while using only one of the electromagnetic propulsion rings in the system so that it can achieve a lower speed, and allow higher maneuvering for things like guided proton torpedoes.

 • Hardened Against Ions and EMPs - Meant to allow a vessel to keep fighting even when other systems are down, a starship with this system is capable of making attacks that might keep it alive a little longer through their electromagnetic torpedo launch system.

 • On-board Droid Arms - The on-board droid arms of this capital ship weapon give it the capacity to physically modify Guided Proton Torpedoes before they are launched. Because of the modular design of the GPTs, it only takes a few moments at most to, say, swap out the warhead for cluster warheads.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

 • Size - Because of its arrangement, and the lack of a starfighter-sized model, the ELTS is designed exclusively for vessels the size of corvettes and larger.

 • Speed - When propelled by two launch rings instead of one and/or conventional launch methods, Guided Proton Torpedoes won’t be able to maneuver as well as they normally can due to their speed. This also interferes with the maneuvering of other, similar torpedo variants.

 • Accuracy - Accuracy is reliant on the individual skill level of crews, as well as what kind of torpedo is being used, and the targeting sensors on a computer. If military-grade targeting sensors are not used, then the torpedo launch system will likely miss its target at longer ranges. This means that military vessels or vessels with military-grade equipment are necessary, and that you can’t just add this

DESCRIPTION

The Electromagnetic Torpedo Launch System, or ETLS, is simply an advanced version of the same torpedo launch systems that you’d find in starships. It is similar to other systems, but has been equipped with electromagnetic acceleration rings as its most important component. The result is that it can launch torpedoes at immense speeds, and even normal torpedoes can become more dangerous to capital ships. It may not be an end game, but combined with the Guided Proton Torpedo, it is capable of replacing certain missile systems. The result is that vessels can be made more effective in some ways.

Sub looks great, but I need you to link the manufacturer involved, please.
