- Variable Power Setting - The power setting of the Gauss coils can be set on the fly to match the target's level of protection. This can be put down to its lowest setting for unarmoured targets, or maxed out, using the entire powercell in one shot to penetrate vehicle armour.
- MFTAS Scope - The Penetrator comes standard with a scope using MFTAS technology, though it can be replaced with a more advanced scope if the user prefers.
- HUD Uplink - Several sensors and a nanocam are built into the Phalanx, allowing the rifle to sync with a helmet's Heads Up Display and show information such as remaining ammo, weapon temperature, errors, display a reticle, or look around obstacles without exposing the user.
- Extreme Damage - The Penetrator hits with the fury of a Rancor that just ate a bulk cruiser full of hot peppers being corralled away from water. It's designed to penetrate heavy infantry armour and even light to medium vehicles.
- Long Range - So long as the user can draw a line of sight between the end of the barrel and the target, the Penetrator theoretically can hit it, so long as the user has the skill to back it up.
- OverPen - True to its name, the Penetrator can over-penetrate its target, the round blowing through without imparting a significant amount of energy. This would leave a hole right through, but have very little effect on the target. Avoiding this requires significant skill on the user's part and knowledge of the target's armour to dial back the amount of energy used in the shot to an appropriate level.
- Massive kick - To match its furious damage, the Penetrator has a terrible recoil; firing the weapon without bracing it first is not recommended. An unsuspecting user can be knocked to the ground or worse, suffer injury directly from the recoil. It is recommended to use either strength augmenting armour/cybernetics or use the provided bipod and fire the weapon from a stable position, such as seated or prone.
The Penetrator was designed with one goal in mind: being able to reach out and touch any infantry in any armour so long as the user can spot them. Its variable power system means that the energy sent through the Gauss coils and transferred to the slug can be set high enough to make even the heaviest of armour worry if it can stop the round, or disperse the energy of a non-penetrating hit. Even vehicles are not safe from the Penetraitor's rounds, a skilled user can shoot weak points and damage critical components.
