The Eclipse is a modern-constructed lightsaber inspired by ancient design concepts. It was created by Astra Sadow for herself, and herself alone, to utilize.

The most striking feature of the blade is that it is flat like ancient Sith Swords, but its edges burn a bright red with all the cutting power of a standard lightsaber. The flat of its blade burn with Sith Alchemical glyphs stating, "There are no limits." Whether the glyphs are in tribute to a bloodline traced back among Sadow, or merely for aesthetic purposes, only its creator knows.

While its less contemporary design -- a flat blade -- doesn't have the omnidirectional presence of a rounded one, in a trained hand no handicap can be found. It does make cutting a circular hole through blast doors quite difficult, however. And while the combination of older (Mullinine) and newer (Sarrassian Iron) materials poetically bridges the past with the present, it is the Alchemical rites performed that binds the saber to the Dark Side as it was always meant to be.

Its second notable features is the cross guard that can extend from inside the hilt on activation. It protects the wielder from any melee weapon -- especially swords capable of withstanding saber contact -- sliding down the length of the saber and through the wielder's limbs.

• Flat Long Sword Blade - Dual edge lightsaber edges with the full power of a standard lightsaber.
• Extendable Cross Guard - Retractile guards protect the wielder's limbs especially against other melee weapons that are not lightsabers.
• Alchemical Hardening - Special rites imbued (restructured) the metals with ancient Sith strength to weather the rigors of abuse and battle.

• Cross Guard - Hand and forearm protection from melee weapons, if used properly.
• Hardened - Not easily destroyed, but not impervious to high-energy or explosive destruction.
• Efficient Movement - Some say the burning round blade of sabers tugs on a wielders' grasp and requires compensation; this blade has no such inertia and behaves akin to a steel long sword.

• Flat Blade - Not as easy to carve a circle in solid materials. Squares are easier by far given its relatively flat or broad geometry.
• Exotic - Not everyone knows how to wield a flat blade; certainly not many Jedi or Sith as a lightsaber. Special training and adaptation of Forms are required by the wielder.
• Force Powered - It remains a lightsaber in channeling the Force through kyber crystals. A region denied the Force or lightsaber-disruptive substances (e.g. cortosis) can disable use of the weapon.
