SPECIAL FEATURES

  • EM Field Generator, generates an electromagnetic force field, preventing enemy missiles from hitting the target.

  • CFE-G2MK7, a type of crystal engine that uses permafrost crystals, gives boosts to turbolaser systems as well as overall improved system efficiency.

  • Copycat Pod, an electronic countermeasure device that copies the targets transponder signal, used to lure ships away from the target.

  • Orbital Drop Pods, an orbit to surface drop pod that enables the insertion of troops in a rapid manner.

  • Smoke Dispensers, enables the target to lay down smoke screens providing effective cover for troops or vehicles on the ground.

  • Rocket Pods, gives the target the ability to provide cover fire for troops or vehicles on the ground.
STRENGTHS:

  • Ground Support: Provides support on the ground via anti blaster aerosol dispensers, rocket pods as well as cover fire. In addition it has the ability to drop up to twenty orbital pods.

  • Advanced Combat System: In addition to the standard tracking and battle analysis computer, the Ecklund is equipped with Infrared Orbital Drop Reinforcement Targeting Beacon allowing for a more accurate placement of drop zones, and successful landing of pods.

  • Crystal Engine: Improved rate of fire, cutting power, rate of speed and overall ship power the Crystal Engine gives a much needed boost to what little turbolasers the Ecklund actually has.
WEAKNESSES:

  • Ship to Ship: The Ecklund has little in the way of actual ship to ship combat. Built with ground support and ground engagement in mind, the vessel can do little in engagements involving capital ships.

  • Fighter Screens: While possessing only the average of speed, the Ecklund in addition to having little to engage capital ships with. Can do little against fighters just as well, the vessel is just as vulnerable to attack craft if not more so than capital ships.

  • Firing Arc: The Ecklund-class has a limited firing arc when compared to other ships in her class. Her guns are limited a forty-five degree firing arc, and added with her poor maneuverability the vessel has to compensate with speed and an improved rate of fire to bring down her foes.

  • Vulnerabilities: The belly of the ship, where her launch bay sits and where her hangar rests is where she is most vulnerable. Her armor here is thinner than anywhere else making her more susceptible to boarding pods, missile attacks, or other weapon systems.

Description:

The Ecklund-class was developed to address a key role that had been underserved within the First Order for quite sometime. A proper drop ship, a ship dedicated to orbital drops - the rapid insertion of troops. While only in a limited-run production, the First Order Corps of Imperial Engineers, in conjunction with First Order Naval Engineering and Primo Victorian Shipwright the state-run shipwright company created a ship that could hold up to twenty drop pods, holding ten troopers within each pod. Enabling the First Order to drop an entire company’s worth of troops in a singular drop.

But the Ecklund would do more than just drop ground support, it would work to move in and provide cover fire with air to ground blaster cannons, antiblaster aerosol dispensers and go one step further in being able to extract troops with its emergency extraction access (rope ladders that deploy from the bottom of the ship). A loading ramp that can deploy to allow for a more efficient extraction of ground forces. The vessel is also able to make room for up to two squadrons of various attack craft/bombers.

In order to help the Ecklund conduct its mission an Infrared Orbital Drop Reinforcement Targeting Beacon was attached to the ship’s combat suite, giving it an ‘advanced,’ suite. This would help the ship to better create drop zones and extraction points. To do this the ship sacrificed much in the way of traditional ship to ship combat equipment and took on more air to ground fire and rocket pods. The ship would be able to make two runs as it holds up to a total of forty rockets, twenty already loaded in and another twenty in storage. Once the rockets are expended the Ecklund will have to leave the area to resupply.

The vessel also sacrificed the traditional Antimatter Hyperdrive Engine in favor of the smaller, Crystal Fused Engine. Taking a reduction in its hyperdrive class but improving overall ship efficiency. The engine also provides a boost to the ship’s rather small compliment of turbolaser firing systems, as well as an improved rate of fire for said system. Also on the Ecklund is an EM Field Generator which serves to protect the ship while on the ground.

Just like any shield or generator system it’s not a permanent solution, a mere temporary defense which means the men and women both on the ground and on the ship must work together, quickly in order to get their job done. The Ecklund-class ship will debut in the next quarter, and should it prove as efficient in the field as it does in simulations and on paper, it may be included in the next set of tier two block fits.
