GENERAL INFORMATION
Name: Dusk Holly
Origins: Maramere
Other Locations: This moss can be found in practically any humid, dark, deep cave system in the galaxy.
Classification: Moss
Average Growth Cycle: 6-7 days for a colony to grow to it’s fullest extent. The brown tip of the tiny stalks will open up, releasing spores into the air that, with the right amount of moisture in the air, land on the ground of a cave system and begin planting it’s roots. After a week or so, and the stalks have grown up from the mossy ground, the reproduction and spread begins once again.
Viability: This moss needs darkness and moisture to grow. Without the moist air of a cave system, Dusk Holly can very easily dry out and die. The same applies when the moss is taken out of a cave system and exposed to lots of sunlight. It will die slower this way, but it will die nonetheless. Allowed to spread unharassed in a cave, however, and it will very quickly cave a system’s floor.
Description: The mossy ground that surrounds the tiny stalks is a dark green color that reflects the darkness the moss is typically grown in. The stalks are a slightly lighter green, while the pods that sit on top of the stalks are a deep brown color. When exposed left alone in the dark, the moss can also begin to put off a light blue-ish green hue due to some of the bioluminescent bacteria that resides in the moss.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
Average Height: The stalks are 1.5-4.0 mm tall.
Average Length: The moss can grow .1-.3m in every direction per colony system.
Color: The moss on the ground is a dark green, while the stalks are a lighter green with tiny brown pods on top. When in complete darkness, the bioluminescent bacteria can turn the colony a glowing blue-ish green.
Nutritional Value: None
Toxicity: None
Other Effects: None
Distinctions: The most unique part of Dusk Holly moss is the bioluminescent bacteria that it contains. Typically the bacteria is released during it’s reproduction, and the entire colony contains this interesting, miniscule organism. The glow that it puts off might not be a lot by itself, but multiple colonies working together to glow this way can light up a small cave system to navigable levels.

Strengths:
No upkeep: This moss colony is totally self sustaining as long as it is kept in a dark, humid cave system.
Natural light: The glowing from the colonies can light up a cave system enough that any intrepid explorer with decent eyes can see well enough to continue their explorations. Bringing your own light source is still recommended though.
Weaknesses:
Wash with bleach: The bacteria that causes the moss colony to glow in darkness can be transferred onto clothing by touch even if the colony itself dies, and is not easy to get out. Wiping one's hands on their clothes after handling Dusk Holly will give them that glowing property until it is cleaned off. Gloves are recommended.
Singular ecosystem: This moss is meant to grow in one type of environment, and one alone. Trying to get it to grow in anything less than a humid, dark cave can result in the entire colony not taking or dying very quickly.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Explorers have known about Dusk Holly for as long as spelunkers have decided to risk their lives exploring cave systems. The glow of the moss colonies lighting up a cave system has always provided a nice reprieve and pretty sight. Dusk Holly can be found on practically every world in the core systems, and has even been observed even in caves as far out as Antham Prime.
