Intent: To create an interesting metal to attract some attention to Duniya- or rather Duniya's second moon. If anyone wants to mine this, they're welcome to.
Development Thread: Not sure how I'd go about doing that, but I will if needed
Manufacturer: Found on Duniya II.
Model: Dunite
Affiliation: Whoever finds or mines it
Modularity: Can be shaped into virtually anything
Production: Found in large amounts, only on Duniya II
Material: Dunite
Description: Dunite was originally discovered when a tiny meteorite was found in the Baban Tudu mountains, containing trace amounts of the material. It was promptly studied, and eventually named a new metal ore; Dunite, after the planet it was found on. Since then, no sources of Dunite have ever been found. Ironically enough, no one thought to look in the asteroid that orbited the very planet the meteorite had landed on, which contained incredibly high amounts of the ore.

Since enough has never been found to fully study it, most attributes of the metal ore has never been discovered. It is extremely soft and malleble, easily shaped with simple hammers and chisels. It's most useful quality, however, was not able to be found through the tiny sample unearthed in the Baban Tudu mountains; it's knack for deflecting heat. Due to it's molecular structure, Dunite is able to 'deflect' heat in small amounts, dispersing and dissipating it. This, and the fact that it's extremely light-weight, makes it perfect for coating armors. However, it is not foolproof; Dunite is indeed able to deflect and disperse heat, but it's still an extremely malleable material. A blaster bolt's energy and heat would do virtually no damage, but the force behind all but the lightest blasters would easily dent the metal. Heavier blaster weapons may poke a hole through the metal entirely, just through the force of the bolt. Though Dunite is able to dissipate small bursts of heat such as blaster bolts- it is also knownt o easily melt with more frequent high temperatures. Automatic blaster fire to the same spot, incredibly high temperatures (such as the beaches of Mustafar), and beams of plasma such as lightsabers and fusion cutters would melt through Dunite easily. It's also reccomended not to wear this material directly on your skin, or close enough that liquid metal can burn through your clothings- as it's likely durig the course of a battle, it will melt. Unless your enemies have horrible aim, and you only get hit by the occasional blaster shot, that is. Also, since the metal is highly malleable even the lightest slugthrower weapons would shred through it like tissue paper. Lastly, Dunite it also a wonderful conducter of electricty. Great for wires- but if you get electrocuted while wearing this? Not so great.

In short; it's amazing at dispensing and dissipating heat in small quantities, such as blaster fire. Large quantities of heat, kinetic force, and sharp objects are it's weaknesses.

If this material is worked into armor, and was struck by something hot (like repeated blaster fire or just plain heat) what would be the effects? For example, would the material retain the heat after dissipating the blaster bolt, effectively cooking the wearer? I'd like to see a summary of some limits to this.

[member="Silara Vantai"] - If it was to hot for the material to dissipate? It would melt. If the metal is confronted with a heat it can't dissipate, it'll melt. Effectively burning the heck out of whoever's wearing it. Despite it's heat dispelling properties, it does have a low melting temperature. If it's confronted by heat's it can't dissipate, it'll melt fairly easily. The trick is to give it a heat it can't dissipate. A blaster bolt is small, so it can dissipate a blaster bolt. A lightsaber, or a pool of lava, is not.

Basically, it's tin with special properties.

Hope that answers your question, and ty for judging this! :)
