Duel on Dantooine

Dantooine-SWGMB.jpg
A couple days ago, Daella and @[member="Diana Moridena"] managed to smuggle themselves onto the Imperial world of Dantooine. Posing as workers on a ship bringing farming machinery to the agricultural world, the two Jedi managed to slip into the wilds of the vast, underpopulated world unnoticed. A little use of Jedi Mind Trick allowed them to remain incognito.

The goal of the pair was the ancient Jedi Enclave on the world. Now, it was a mostly forgotten relic left to ruin. The journey to Enclave took several days. Yet, the Jedi had the resources to make the journey. Their conversations on the way to the Enclave mostly involved small talk.

Eventually, Daella and Diana could see the Jedi Enclave Temple near the horizon. A vast expanse of grassland separated from the ancient home of the Jedi Order.

Wearing a dark olive cloak and hood, Daella took down the hood as she turned to Diana.

Despite the achievement of avoiding detection all the way to the temple, Daella said, “I got a bad feeling about this.

Diana stood next to her bladesister, her clothing not of normal Jedi robes and fine linens, but instead what a smuggler would wear. She wore a short leather coat, some pants, and a belt with a blaster placed slung on her thigh. In the small shoulder pack she had were her three lightsabers, and her sword Tyrfing lay slung beneath the pack. It all looked like she was a normal person...well with a sword, which had been the whole point.

As the two women came in sight of the Jedi Enclave a feeling came into the pit of her stomach and a frown settled on the girls face. When Daella spoke Diana couldn't help but agree. They were in the middle of Sith Space, surrounded by hundreds of enemies with no help.

If they got caught, they were dead. Still the mission was important, and Diana would see it through. “Yeah.”

Diana said quietly in agreement with her bladesister. She did not stop for long however, and quickly she began to walk again, heading straight for the Enclave.

Before Karin Dorn had even set foot on Dantooine, she knew.

Had they managed to find out her daughter's identity? Surely not. Had she been so sloppy? The Sith Master could sense no death, no stains of personal tragedy. This ruled death out, well death on this planet at the very least. The question was who had taken her? No situation came out beneficial for Karin. Half a century of creating enemies had now potentially backfired on a catastrophic level.

Why? Where? Who?

Distracted by panic the plant woman had previously ignored it, but in the darkness there was a slice of light and it wasn't welcome here.

On an ordinary day, Karin would have investigated it, approached it with mild caution and curiosity. Not with aggression and the will to destroy. Use your words. Unfortunately, everybody has an off day once in a while, no matter how great your rank, and when your beloved daughter goes missing from her supposed safe haven well, that's just throwing the poodoo into the fan.

Where would those of a light side persuasion risk going on a relatively quiet Empire owned planet. One with an abandoned Jedi Enclave to boot.

She hired a speeder.

@[member="Diana Moridena"], @[member="Daella Apparine"]

Without incident, the pair of Jedi continued their walk toward the Jedi Enclave. The grassland remained empty throughout the trek with gentle brushes of the wind being their only company. Daella clutched the collar of her cloak and hood. She kept her eyes upon the temple.

After nearly an hour, the Jedi Enclave was just before the duo and no longer a spec on the horizon. Overgrowth covered the temple’s entrance. The doors remained cracked open. The structure still held itself up in the same manner as it had been for thousands of years. Yet, it could be certain to the Jedi duo that it was hollow and devoid of life.

Most of the riches the temple could have offered was already removed. Yet, the Jedi sought something hidden deep within the archives that required passcodes that only they carried - or supposedly only them, at least.

Before @[member="Karin Dorn"] could have arrived though, Daella and @[member="Diana Moridena"] entered the ruins of the temple to begin their exploration.

Diana moved through the enclave alongside @[member="Daella Apparine"], the two Jedi cutting through thick vines and moving through broken ruins as though they had done it countless times before. The Enclave was old, even in this galaxies standards. Thousands of years ago the most powerful Jedi at the time had traveled through here and trained, his name long lost in history but tales still holding strong within the Jedi oral traditions.

The Jedi Knight could not help but marvel at the sights and sounds around her, watching the ancient Jedi etching with great care. Diana lost herself within the enclave, smiling at the wonderment of it all. She could not feel @[member="Karin Dorn"] come towards them, unaware of the darkness that was approaching.

“The Archives should be further within the Enclave.” Diana said as she looked at a small piece of flimsy that had been given to her by the Jedi Council.

Quickly the two Knights passed through the Enclave, eventually coming to a small clearing just outside of the archives. Diana marveled again at the ancient architecture, the massive open ceiling in the room allowing the sun to shine through. This Enclave was far more...light than the other temples the Jedi had, life seemed to flow through it.

The Jedi Knight seemed happy for a moment, forgetting the war that ravaged the galaxy.

Perfect moment to fit in a montage here.

Find me the most inappropriate song possible and I will set it as the backdrop for Karin's rip roaring rampage of wrongful revenge. Alliteration only makes my powers grow, you know.

The Sith sought logical thought on her journey. Would it be so ridiculous to link the fist force signatures found on Dantooine to her daughter's disappearance? After all this was a planet that held history with the Jedi, it wouldn't be so ridiculous that they were here for the Enclave and not for Evelynn. At the same time Karin was aware of this galaxy's balance, how coincidences came few and far between.

Closer and closer she drew, like a moth to the flame, regardless of whether or not their presence had anything to do with her daughter's vanishing act they had chosen the wrong time to play explorer.

Karin finally reached the Enclave, finding thick butchered vines a slight against her new plant form.

The very waves of darkness began emanating from her being. A quite literal darkness that began to creep through the Enclave, infecting, spreading, the woman used that confusion, the mortal fear to feed the ancient Sith magic. The intruders would not only begin to encounter a physical darkness but a blanket of literal doom bringing eventual feelings of horror and despair. The more Karin considered her sweet daughter, frightened, alone and in the hands of enemies the more malicious the waves became.

Darkness.

Slowly, she began to traverse through the Enclave. Ominous deliberate footsteps echoing.

@[member="Diana Moridena"], @[member="Daella Apparine"]

Unlike @[member="Diana Moridena"], Daella remained halcyonic as the duo ventured deeper into the Jedi Enclave. Her eyes wandered around as she examined the barren interior. Each step created a hollow echo that traversed the entirety of the temple’s Grand Hall. Their journey guided them toward the vault of the archives. Yet, they were unable to reach it.

As soon as @[member="Karin Dorn"] stepped into the Enclave, Daella sharply turned back toward where the Jedi came from. In one fluid motion, Daella removed her dark olive cloak and hood with her left arm and drew her lightsaber hilt with her right hand. She tossed the cloak to the side and turned fully back toward the entrance. Underneath the cloak, Daella had worn a white hoodie with a brown jacket over it and tan pants. Then, Daella ignited her yellow-bladed lightsaber.

With the already dim temple darkening, Daella’s lightsaber remained as one of the few sources of light. Daella’s grip on the hilt tightened. Her glare sharpened. She remained silent and still. Yet, Daella’s thoughts and the effect of Karin’s Force Fear remained known only to Daella.

Diana felt the waves of fear almost immediately, her reaction was much sharper than @[member="Daella Apparine"]s. In one quick flurry of motion Diana turned about towards the entrance Enclave, her mouth agape and her eyes popped open to the size of dinner plates. Diana had felt fear before, in fact she felt it often. When she had faced Velok her heart had been nothing but fear, when she had been on the run from Domino and the black Sun she had been terrified.

This however was something different. The feeling of fear was palpable in the air, and Diana without thinking took a step back from whatever the source of the feeling was. As her foot landed she frowned slightly, finally gaining control of herself.

She looked to Daella, watching her actions and frowning slightly. She nodded to herself, almost unconsciously. With a quick snap Diana shut her jaw and pulled Tyrfing from it's scabbard. They were in the middle of Sith Space, whatever was coming for them was serious business.

In one fluid motion Diana dragged her pack from her back, opening the cloth sack and tossing it behind her just in case she later needed her lightsabers.

Then she stood next to Daella, her blade at the ready.

Wave after wave the darkness pulsed out of her.

Karin Dorn had a philosophy about Sith magic, if it didn't hurt then you just weren't doing it right. The sacrifice of body and mind produced the purest sorcery. Wrench up your own fears from the darkest recesses of your mind. Slavers. Focus them. My sweet girl. Feed on them. Your sanity irrelevant, your very terrors are what fuels you. Scared. Abandoned. Hurt. Dying. Dead.

If it weren't for the very fact that Karin too was standing in the Enclave the Sith might have brought it down around her. Fortunately she was in despair, not suicidal.

Darkness intensifies.

The whispering torment of her aura grew stronger. This was her game. She approached the armed women with no mind to even equip her own lightsaber but to let her sorcery do the work for her. The longer the two women were exposed to the power the more likely they were to be infected, morale robbed, will to fight gone. Hopelessness reigns.

"W̤̹H͏̡̣̩̞̞͈̝̣̟̀Y̴̠̝̯̥͕̱͜͡ ̧͇̘̠͕A҉̘̼̳́R͓̘͔̫̱̩ͅE̡̛̯̩͈͔̹͕̺ ̧͈̘̙̙̜͖͙̲̘Y̸̥̲̰̩͎̪ͅO̶̦̘̞͎̲̗͚͎U̳̺̯̕ ̴̩͔̗̲͇̬͇͡͡H̴̺̀E̲̕R̻̲͖̦̥̮͇͞Ȩ̸̱̜͓?̡̞̦̮͡"

As @[member="Karin Dorn"] approached the Jedi, Daella glanced at @[member="Diana Moridena"] with a still face. A single bead of sweat dripped down the left side of Daella’s face. She turned back to Karin.

Then, Daella gripped the lightsaber hilt with her left hand as well. She held the hilt just in front of her chest with the blade pointed at a forty-five degree angle forward. Yellow light washed over Daella’s face - thus making it clear to Karin. Her sharp eyebrows were angled as she glared at the Sith. Her jaw clenched, yet her mouth remained relaxed.

Karin had made the dark side of the Force well known in the chambers of the Jedi Enclave. No doubt, Daella could have felt something just as much as Diana did. Daella’s blue eyes glanced once more at Diana with minimal movement of her head.

Once more, her focus returned to Karin. Daella gritted her teeth for a moment before opening her mouth. A roughly refined voice pierced through the darkness to ask, “Your name - now.

Diana slammed her jaw shut, her teeth clacked and began to grind against each other as a feeling of absolute terror wormed its way into her heart. For a few seconds she was completely immobile, unable to even think on what she could do. She scowled slightly, her feet dragging backwards again as she instinctively tried to move away from the source of her fears, the green woman.

Finally she heard Daella's voice break through the silence of the Enclave. The strong resolve within her Bladesisters tone made Diana snap out of her own fear.

The Jedi Knight shook her head and looked at the green woman, expecting and answer to @[member="Daella Apparine"]s question. Diana took up a stance as well, twirling her sword in her hand and letting the blade land so it was held backwards in her hand, she then pushed one foot forward and the other back, as if she was prepared to pounce.

The Sith in front of them was powerful, but despite the absolute terror she felt she would fight to the last breath.

It was amusing to see them both. One the picture of fortitude, the other trying not to turn to jelly, it almost heart-warming to see fearful one find strength in her companion and when I say almost I mean that it's terrible and you're both awful.

I hate you.

Of course, Karin Dorn was the lover of the mood whiplash and no matter how full of agony her heart may have been she would forever commit to the dramatics. Of course, being that the pair of them were extremely poised to strike continuing to blast waves of darkness at them would not have been the most beneficial of options. You've got to change up the game.

As if it had been an illusion the smog of the dark side dissipated and Karin Dorn stood there, arms folded, the very face of disappointment. The woman did not respond immediately, she let the demand settle in the air her eyes focused on @[member="Diana Moridena"] instead of the speaker. It was a good thing she had come armed with a predatory gaze, a look that could send a chill through your core.

“You will mind your manners here!” the Sith suddenly snapped, finally directing her attentions towards @[member="Daella Apparine"]. “You come to my domain, skulking and sneaking, brandishing your blades at me, at me?!”

She sounded like their mother.

“I am Karin Dorn,” the woman said slowly and deliberately before unfolding her arms so she could interlock her fingers together. If they were aware of the Sith hierarchy then the pair would realise that this was Lady Dorn, one of the Emperor's Three Lords and that they were in her sector of imperial space.

“Now, if you would be so kind, I would like to know your names and your purpose here on Dantooine.”

The coming answer probably wasn't going to be 'kidnapping your daughter, lol' but it never hurt to ask.

As soon as the darkness subsided, Daella slowly exhaled as she maintained her stance. When @[member="Karin Dorn"] began to speak, Daella released her left hand’s grip on her lightsaber. She took a sharp step forward with her right leg.

Upon Karin voicing her desire to know the Jedi’s names and mission, Daella raised her yellow lightsaber with her right arm. She pointed the blade straight at the Sith, despite now knowing her name. Daella’s eyes widened and her chin rose slightly.

Daella Apparine!” she yelled as if Karin stood fathoms away, “And we are Jedi!

Then, Daella pushed off her feet and dashed toward Karin. She offered no warning before her attack. She gritted her teeth as she sped toward the Sith, with her eyes still wide. As she rushed toward Karin, she would attempt to horizontally slash across Karin’s chest from Karin’s right to left if she got within striking distance of the Sith.

This time Diana did not take a step back, instead she stared the Sith directly in the eye. When one was overcome with fear there was only two possible outcomes. The Humanoid system was built either for Fight, or flight, and For Diana Moridena there was only one real option, fight. She gritted her teeth and gripped her blade tightly, getting ready for the inevitable fight that was about to break out. She heard @[member="Daella Apparine"] call out, and then saw her dash forward.

Diana nodded, more to herself than to Daella or the Sith, and then she quickly followed behind Daella's footsteps. She dashed forward in an instance, her feet only touching the ground once or twice as she moved besides and then passed Daella.

Unlike her bladesister Diana stopped at the Sith's side, sliding towards @[member="Karin Dorn"]'s leg, hoping to cripple her and end the fight before it even began.

Oh my.

I guess the time for talking was over, or perhaps it had never begun, no, it totally never began.

Were they that genre savvy? Did they have her pegged for a talker? Perhaps the blonde one had no hope in her weaker friend, that she would be manipulated too easily through words. Maybe they were just a violent breed, constantly in the shadow of death and destruction.

“Goodness...” the woman muttered, her voice thick with disapproval.

Not wishing to be sliced up like a potato making its journey to become the fries the Lady Dorn reacted. It was a predictable move, but not wishing to be crowded by the pair of passionate Jedi she utilised a rather mild force wave to hopefully knock back both of her assailants. I mean, if they cracked their skulls against the walls of the Enclave then that would have been a bonus.

But it was early days yet.

@[member="Daella Apparine"], @[member="Diana Moridena"]

Once @[member="Karin Dorn"] pushed Daella away with the Force, Daella flipped backwards at least one rotation. Her body flew up just a meter yet had been pushed back several more. She landed back on the floor with both her feet and her left hand in a three-point stance. She slid a short distance. Once she came to a stop near a wall, Daella lifted her head up.

Glaring at Karin once more, Daella narrowed her cold eyes. She breathed out once more with her mouth forming a small “O”. She quickly righted herself and stood tall. She still not quiver nor seem to have any wound - at least not yet.

With her back slightly hunched, Daella began to take slow steps toward Karin.

Sith,” called out Daella with a loud voice. She raised her yellow blade up once again and held out her left arm at just below chest height.

Your powers hardly affect me,” she claimed, “This misdirected passion only weakens you, whereas a pure will only strengthens me.

Diana flew back just as Daella did, she however did not flip, preferring to steady herself with the force and land on the ground several yards away from the Sith Lord. She frowned slightly as Daella spoke again, eying the other woman with a curious expression. Daella usually did not speak this much during a fight, it was odd to hear her do so.

The Jedi Knight turned to @[member="Karin Dorn"] again, gripping her blade until her knuckles were white. She had to end this fight before it dragged on too long, for all they knew she had already called for back up and hundreds of Sith troopers were already on their way. Daella and Diana had to leave here soon, Dantooine was no longer a friendly world for the Jedi.

She moved again, becoming a blur.

Diana ran swiftly across the hard duracrete, her feet padding softly on the ground as she headed towards the Sith. As Daella called out again Diana hoped to use the other Jedi as a distraction, and quickly Diana aimed Tyrfing towards @[member="Karin Dorn"]'s leg, once again aiming to sever the appendage.

No cracked skulls, a pity.

She returned the fierce gaze of Daella with a dispassionate eye. This woman was the worst kind of Jedi, difficult to manipulate, impossible to reason with. The duty bound ones were never a pleasant experience. At least they tended to be chaste, that was always a refreshing display.

Karin hadn't been watching the mild-mannered one. Rookie error.

The blade cleaved through her leg like butter. Separating the limb at the thigh with a surprising amount of ease for the speed it had been wielded at. The Sith gasped, falling backwards with (miraculously) a modicum of grace. Pain erupted, sweet glorious agony. Torment was good, torment could incite, inflame. Feed me.

Initially it may have sounded as if the Sith was sobbing, understandable, the woman had lost the majority of her leg. Of course. You know what's coming. I mean, the paragraph started with initially. Come on.

“...aah...haa...”

The woman's hands began to crackle with dark side energies.

“....HaaAA....hhHhaaAA...”

From the freshly produced stump, oozed the murk of her sorcery as if it were a black treacle-like substance being poured into a cast. As the limb regrew Karin's pale green flesh began to de-saturate, as if she were draining herself of her very life.

“HAHAhAhḩ̕A҉̧h̸̢à͝À͡HA̶̧̢ Ḩ̬͈͕͚̻̹͘A̟̳̖̼̳͚̙̩͜A̶̼͕͚̖̗̻̦̦A͖͍͜͞H͖̳̭̬̦͓̟̕A̕͏̺̠H̸̡̺̠͔͠A̶̵̰̼͢ͅA̢͏͓͔̝̜̩̭ͅ!̨̺͎̯͚̙̮͎̦

Lady Dorn rose from the ground, her newly regenerated limb black as night, still oozing malevolent sludge. It was a hideous sight to behold, even the smell of it in the air was heinous.

“THIS. MISD͞҉I͠RÉÇ̵ TED. PASS̵I̴̕͘O̸͝N͠.̧͞ WORKS A TREAT҉. , N̴͞O̸͜?͏̧ “

Still brimming with those vile energies, Karin turned to face the Jedi who had made a terrible mistake in lopping off her limb. Of course the woman had backed off by now, but how was she to predict this turn of events? If there was terror before now it had grown into unfiltered horror. With her palms upturned the Sith raised both hands high into the air. Cackling, gurgling.

Electrical energies exploded from both of her hands, the force storm branching out in a strike that wouldn't leave either of the Jedi out. Share the force storm, taste the rainbow.

@[member="Daella Apparine"], @[member="Diana Moridena"]

No reaction came from Daella as @[member="Diana Moridena"] dashed toward @[member="Karin Dorn"]. Yet the moment Diana sliced off one of Karin’s legs, Daella jerked her head slightly back and tilted her chin up. She gave an alarmed look as Karin fell back.

As Karin began to regenerate her leg, Daella began to charge toward the Sith. She gripped her lightsaber tightly. Yet despite her speed, Daella could not reach her before she unleashed a mighty storm of lightning.

Once the arcs of electricity graced Daella’s skin, the Jedi halted in place. Her muscles twitched and tensed up. She gritted her teeth once more in a sure sign of pain. She hunched over with her eyes on the ground for several moments.

Finally, Daella lifted her head back up once more - giving Karin a resolute glare.

You… have… no… direction,” yelled Daella.

Then, Daella pulled her right arm back with her lightsaber. With a single motion, Daella flung the weapon forward as she endured the brunt of Karin’s attack. The golden blade whizzed through the air. It flew straight for the Sith Master as it vertically spun mid-flight. It could certainly bisect Karin if unimpeded.

The lightning struck Diana like a brick wall, painful blue and purple sparks of lightning rushing over her skin and through her very bones. The Jedi Knight let out a scream of pain as the arcs of Darkside energy ravaged her body. The Radiation burns on her skin grew hot, her teeth seemed to glow, and her eyes flared up with a wild surge as the Lightning ran its course beneath her skin.

This was just as before, just like when Velok had tortured her, when he had nearly killed her.

Diana let out another yelp, and dropped to her knee's in pain as the Lightning continued. The clang of Tyrfing when it struck the ground resonated throughout the open Enclave hall and Diana's screams of pain seemed to break the very air. The Jedi howled in despair, yet managed to resist ever so slightly. With impossible determination Diana raised her palm towards something opposite Karin, the bag that she had earlier dropped.

She summed a last desperate pull of the force, calling one of her lightsabers to her and igniting the blade. The sent the lightsaber slicing towards @Karin Downs, hopefully bisecting the Sith along with @[member="Daella Apparine"]'s Lightsaber.
