DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Built-In Encrypted Comms: This droid has built in encrypted comms to continue receiving orders and transmitting results in text form, even from a sizable distance. Note that this droid does not have a vocalizor or anything like that, and its lacking in the personality department. All its transmissions are rather strait forward.
  • Semi-autonomous Heuristic processor: one of the great liabilities of slaving droids to one brain is if the brain goes down--so do the droids. the Droideka Mk 2 does not have this problem, it will continue to do what it is told until either the task is done (e.g: the beings are dead) or until its batteries die.
  • Scanners: With a wide array of scanners, this droid has a lot to offer in terms of intel.
  • Faraday cage: Copper wiring protects this droid's electronic bits, it is safe from all but the most devastating EMP and Ion strikes.
DESCRIPTION
In its day a few Droidekas were something to fear, their ability to deploy within areas of high conflict rapidly made them deadly, if not out right terrorizing. But, sadly, in the hundreds of years since the Clone Wars, the creation of the Colicoids has been reduced to the scrap heap of ancient, but in its day lethal, tech.

But not if RMIA has anything to say about it. After examining the previous droid's build and what made it great along with what made it a vulnerability. The weaponry was upgraded and for a price increase, the RMIA's Droideka Mk 2 was created.

The droid has a lot more to offer in the terms of weaponry; nothing can be blocked by a light saber here and deflected back at your friendly forces. There is an upgrade on this droid for a small payload of Flechette rounds and Rocket Darts. These can be used up as quickly as they can be reloaded back on base. The shield unit has been upgraded to include a ray shield, but of course, even this can be overpowered and shorted out with enough thrown at it.

The real problems come down to two things: Battery life and deployment. First, the max battery life for this model is 3 hours (with the shield running) before you have to go back and re-charge it. That's pretty small in terms of battle droids, so we don't recommend just having them wait around for a long time on guard duty. Second, is the deployment issue. From rolling to sheilding there is a 3 second delay that is able to be exploited. The Durasteel plating on this droid is able to stop a glancing shot from a blaster or glancing blade strike, but not any direct hits. So, the enthusiastically prepared foe can counter this. If you decide, 'hey, who needs that rolling thing anyway? Droidekas can walk after all,' You would be right. The only real problem is their max walking speed is 5 km/h (3.1 mph), which is your average human's walking speed.

All in all, its just a modernized take on a classic droid.

Strengths:
  • Rapid reload: The droideka Mk 2 has some sweet new features that its predecessor never had a chance of, the Flechette launcher and the Rocket Dart. Both of these mounts were designed for quick reload by RMIA so that these bad boys could maximize their damage time and minimize downtime.
  • Blitz speed: The rolling speed of its predecessor, the plain old droideka could hit speeds of 70 km/h (43 mph). This new and improved droideka Mk 2 hits speeds of 90 km/h (55 mph).
  • Powerful shielding: The Droideka Mk 2's shielding is just as powerful as its predecessor's, without the kinks in its armor, the droid's shielding is able to withstand hits from lightsabers, heavy lasers and so on--however, even the droideka's shielding has its limits.
Weaknesses:
  • Splatter shot: These droids are meant to destroy whatever stands in their way with extreme prejudice. They pull no punches and they spare nothing. So if they are shooting into melee, chances are both sides will take damage.
  • Vulnerable moment: When the droideka goes from rolling mode to set up for combat there is a window of 3 seconds of total vulnerability. Despite the designer's best efforts, these 3 seconds could not be undone. The only thing protecting the Drodika at this point is the durasteel plating.
  • Batteries: Its not easy running a deflector shield this gorgeous! The Droideka Mk 2 is only able to run for 3 hours before needing a recharge. That's small in terms of all droid hours.
