Question Droid, Factory or NPC?

I am thinking of creating a Droid sidekick for my Character who is in law enforcement. The Droid would be an old(er) HK-84 assassin droid modified to a protocol droid per cannon but with added programs to function as an administrative assistant, Security/Bodyguard. It would retain combat abilities but its main purpose would be as a foil for my character and not primarily for combat. I am not sure if I need to do a Factory or NPC submission. I view it as an NPC Companion but it will have some abilities not found in a normal HK droid so I am not sure.

If it is going to be a character, then i would do NPC. If were just a random unnamed droid then go to the factory.

If it's a modified canon droid you'll need to sub to the factory first then the NPC character to the Codex. If you want to go the NPC sub route anyways.

Ok, I'm still a little confused. It is basically a cannon droid with administrative assistant functions added. Would that constitute a new droid that has to go thu the factory? It would be unique as I am not planning to sell it.

Oh then why didn't you say canon droid turned admin assistant? That's much more clear.
