- Extremely Rapid Healing
- In the heyday of the Old Republic, they were known to heal extremely rapidly from blaster shots, slugthrower bullets, and lightsaber strikes. Even carving a Drengir in half with a lightsaber ended up doubling the problem, as the two halves of the Drengir would each become an individual body.
- Bio-toxins and Poisons
- Drengir thorns are infamous for their secretions - most notably in their application of pain. While no known chemical composition has yet been defined, it is assumed that as studies of the Drengir begin increasing in volume, that details of specific compositions will also begin to appear.
- Shadow in the Force
- A single Drengir touches the Force in a way that induces fear and dissent simply by being in its proximity. A small collective of Drengir can blanket a planet in fear and disrupt even a Jedi's calm and their steady connection to the Force. An entire swarm of Drengir are capable of projecting this Shadow before they even make planetfall, throwing the planet into disarray and ripening their prey for the harvest.
- Force Disruption
- Light Side - With the Drengir being so heavily steeped in the Dark Side, any Light Side user going up against a Drengir will find that familiar cold fear trickling up their spine, much like fighting a Sith or other Dark Side Force user. It takes a cool and collected mind to stand firm against it.
- Dark Side - The Drengir are drawn to Dark Side users as well - their meat is the ripest of all, and their Shadow will gladly stir up latent dissent and discord in their prey. An individual Sith might find their will and ability bolstered, but an enclave of Sith will find their cohesion rapidly dissolving under inter-personal anxiety and fomenting betrayal.
- Root-mind
- Surprisingly, their connection to each other is not based on the Force. How they are able to communicate almost instantaneously with each other, even over vast distances, is yet to be truly understood (without becoming part of the hive, that is). What is known is their gestalt root-mind allows for every member of the Drengir hive mind to connect to every other member simultaneously, creating one giant consciousness that unites them all.
- Purely Organic
- While they are quick to heal, they are just as quick to destroy. If it can damage plant life, it can damage a Drengir.
- Vulnerable to corrosive atmospheres - or the vacuum of space.
- Primitivist
- No known (standard) technology means they are required to scavenge starships and other material in order to travel from planet to planet.
- Constant Force Presence
- Their innate Force connectivity means Drengir require the Force in order to move and survive. Dampening this connection will invariably harm them.
- Consequently, anyone capable of detecting Force presences will be able to find a lurking Drengir without issue.
- Diet: Carnivore, particularly Force-users
- Communication: Verbal, Galacic Standard Basic; telepathic, through the Force as well as their gestalt root-mind
- Technology level: None, but capable of utilizing technology as well as any other sentient when necessary
- Religion/Beliefs: None
- General behavior: To a being, they desire nothing more than to consume. Aligned with the Dark Side of the Force, they seek to sow dissent and devour their prey.
There is much theorized and known about the history of the Drengir. However, in modern times their awareness and participation in the events of the galaxy at large has been comparatively understated.
The Drengir have participated in the shadows of conflict for the past several years, most notably (and possibly most recently) on Tython, where their nidus grew to critical mass. While it is impossible to provide an exhaustive history of their presence in the modern galaxy, it is generally assumed that the Drengir as a whole, to date, have been somewhat disorganized and not a particularly noteworthy threat. As of late their most recent presences have been more or less vanquished, though this may not remain the case for long. Rumors have persisted that the Drengir continue to spread to all corners of the galaxy, and have begun popping up at inopportune times, overstaying their welcome, and consuming all in their path with insatiable hunger. Rumors also persist that the Drengir have been assisted, in whole or in part, by Sith who also seek to spread fear and anxiety throughout the galaxy as a whole. As of the current year, 902 ABY, there have been no confirmed sightings of Drengir swarms, but it is impossible to fully dismiss their presence, and doubtless they will crop up again in some form or another.
