Name: Drasnidi
Sentience: Semi-sentient.
Homeworld: Lirra
Language: Drasidian
Average height of adults: 1.5m
Skin color: Blue, Brown, Green, Red.
Hair color: N/A
Breathes: Water Vapour.
Strengths: - Aquatic: They can breathe underwater, and are well adapted to the underwater environment. They can also see for long distances underwater.
- Quick & Nimble: They are very fast, and have a very good reaction time.
Weaknesses: - Can't breathe oxygen: Can only survive underwater, or in steamy environments.
- Fragile: They can very easily be injured or killed, as they had no need for protection , evolutionary.
Distinctions: Breath's water vapour. They can do this directly in steamy environments, or by using a special organ, nicknamed "the kettle" by human settlers. This organ takes on water, and then boils it internally, releasing the water vapour. This process is very energy intensive, but is fuelled by the combustion of the minerals they eat. If they don't eat, they'll suffocate very quickly. They have 6 limbs - 2 webbed legs, 2 human-like arms (3 fingers) and 2 flippers.
Average Lifespan: 40 years
Races: 5 races. Blue Spikes - A blue skinned Drasnidi race, marked by the spikes on their head. They are very aggressive, and not that intelligent. They often hunt smaller creatures, unlike the other races. Blue Pods - A very social culture, and by far the most populous. Its members tend to stick in groups of up to 20, and care for all members of their group. They have blue skin. Mud Lurkers - A rare, solitary race, that live in the sinking mud plains of Lirra. They try and drag things down through the mud, and drown them. They often attack passing vehicles, posing a great nuisance to many other species. They have brown skin, and small red eyes. Grenon's - A race that live in the swamps on Lirra, and are quite technologically advanced. They live in houses, constructed underwater, and use large net-like tools to find minerals. They have green skin. Red Mutants - This race was the result of a failed experiment by a scientist on Lirra. There are only about 200 of them. They are 4 times the size of normal Drasnidi, and require many more minerals to survive. They have red skin. They all live in one Mineral pool near an abandoned settlement, but their population is dropping.
Estimated Population: They are only found on Lirra. There are ~1,000,000 Drasnidi on Lirra.
Diet: The minerals on the bottom of the mineral pools( to breathe). Blue pods + Grenon's: Algae, plankton, fungi, insects, chand'ers (A root vegetable that grows near the side of pools.) Blue spikes: Same + small fish. Mud Lurkers: Same + anything they capture and drown. Red Mutants - Food flakes. (Given to them by a family farm, who think them to be holy.)
Communication: Several distinct whistling noises are made, conveying basic intentions to each other. Grenon's also use a language made up of connected circles, to write with.
Culture: Blue pods: A strong community culture, that has strong group bonds. Each group will live in a mineral pool, and harvest the minerals there. They all have equal standing, and make decisions as a group. Younglings are raised by the entire group. Blue Spikes: Aggresive, fighting culture. All males train to be stronger, so they can defeat the current chief, and become the ruler. Women belong to each male, though the Chief can take as many as he wants. Younglings are raised by their mothers. Grenon's: A family based system, where each family lives in their own "house". Younglings are raised by the whole family. One leader is chosen to represent 30 families. These leaders oversee their people's lives. Once a year, all the leaders come together, to discuss their groups.
Mud Lurkers: Solitary life, live on their own. Once every 4 years, they will all move towards a huge rock in the mud flats of Lirra. There, they mate, and then leave. The Younglings are left to fend for themselves.
Red Mutants: Live a slow, relaxed life in their pool. Mostly solitary, but do greet each other if they meet. Most of the race are infertile, and they are thus dying out. The 5 children that have so far been born, where raised by their parents.
Technology level: Primitive. (But Basic technology for Grenon's)
General behavior: Blue Pods: Swim around, catch/find food/minerals. Talk to each other. Blue Spikes: Get food/minerals, Train, practice fighting, kill stuff. Mud lurkers: Sit in hole, dig for minerals/food. Grenon's: Swim around, catch food, collect minerals, build things, talk to people, chat to friends. Red Mutants: Wander around aimlessly, eating food flakes, collecting minerals.
History: Lirra is a peaceful world, but mostly due to the lack of other life. The mineral pools of Lirra though, were one of the few places where life could flourish. Over time many creatures began to appear there, including the Drasnidi. These predecessor's of the modern species, were very similar, though they could in fact breathe oxygen. They mostly stayed in the pools, though some wandered out onto the mud flats, eventually becoming the Mud-Lurkers as they are known today. Many tunnels were found at the bottom of the pools, making travel to other pools possible. Thanks to this, population rocketed, and even the swamps became filled with Drasnidi. Things continued normally, bringing us up to nearly the present. One day, settlers from across the galaxy came to Lirra, though they didn't bother the Drasnidi. Even the wars fought on the planet largely left them unharmed. Then, one day, a scientist, wanting to study them, captured a group of twenty. He ran tests on them, and exposed them to all kinds of chemicals. The result was the Red Mutants, but the scientist, finished the experiment, dumped them in a nearby pool. They were nurtured by the nearby settlers, and continue to be helped to this day.
Notable Player-Characters: None.
Intent: A interesting species to interact with the TU presence on Lirra. Also made to bring some life into the rather plain landscape.
