OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: As the Draelvasier tend to shy away from the "technology" of the galaxy, they have their own methods of transferring information, storing knowledge, and educating their youth. The goal of this submission is to go into greater depth about how this process is achieved and to serve as a broad method by which these activities are performed.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: Draelvasier Artefact
  • Links: The Bryn'adul, Bryn'adul Social Culture, The Draelvasier(In particular, the Records/Media/History which is what this submission is working to clarify.)
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Holocron Name: Draelvasier Education Artifact, Education Artifact, or a specific name detailing the subject matter such as "Battle of Teth Education Artifact."
  • Alignment: Neutral
  • Origin: The creation of the DEA (Draelvasier Education Artifact) shell is performed by a Seer - Force Sensitive Draelvasier. The subsequent information stored within the DEA, however, may be implanted by any member of the Draelvasier race. In particular, these devices are accustomed to copying and sharing memories.
  • Affiliation: The Bryn'adul
  • Gatekeeper: The Seer who constructed the shell serves as its Gatekeeper. This means that the appearances, patterns, and personality traits of Gatekeepers may change depending on the artifact's creator. Typically, these Draelvasier will heavily embody the tenants of the Bryn'adul creed, however, and it is unlikely that any would allow access to a non-Draelvasier.
  • Description:
The method by which the Draelvasier race manages to communicate over vast distances may vary depending on available resources. Whether by transmitting signals across the stars to one another utilizing vast arrays, or whether dispatching a courier, the information will inevitably end its journey by being encoded into one of the many artifacts utilized for much of the race's information.

While these artifacts allow for the almost instantaneous perusal of material, there is still a great deal of artisanship and work which goes into preparing them for the general population. The artifacts are usually capable of providing enough information to fully cover a topic unless it is particularly extensive, but the information encoded within must be done so by an adequately-trained force sensitive or else it risks either corruption -- it will be unable to be understood -- or else it will lead to a great deal of confusion and detriment for its reader.

Upon receiving information, the inscriber must meditate on what they have learned, and imprint these memories directly into the force-imbued artifact. Any breach in concentration could lead to unpleasant or unnecessary memories being attached to the artifact -- as they transfer directly from the scribe onto the device -- and thus eliminate much of the efficiency of the finished product. While all members of the Draelvasier race are capable of reading and of interacting with these tools, it is a necessary step of the creation process for a professional to organize and prepare more extensive or complex memories that will be used by the general populace.

In the event of failure to properly organize these memories, they may come out jumbled and completely out-of-step. For instance, an encoded artifact that would normally grant its user knowledge of the inner-workings and maintenance of a rifle may transmit memory of the rifle already being disassembled as opposed to showcasing how the machine would need to be taken apart. While such "reading" is nigh instantaneous for its reader, then, a substantial amount of time must be spent carefully collecting facts and impressing them into the device.

News about events taking place throughout the dominion of the Bryn'adul also requires this same level of coordination and effort. Without it, tactical analysis by an Emissary for multiple battles may be accidentally condensed into a single analysis and thus confuse any forces who might've reinforced them. Due to the important nature of many of these artifacts, and the importance of clarity in their message, it is somewhat rare to see less than critical knowledge encoded by any professional scribe.
DEFENSES
  • Accessibility: An artifact must be held directly against a Draelvasier's flesh in order to determine their DNA. Afterward, it is common for a numbered tenant to be requested -- vocalization of that portion of the Bryn'adul creed is sufficient to open the device.
  • Security: Given the common use of these devices, most possess few security features. Failure to properly recite a portion of the creed, or to pass the DNA test may simply result in the device not responding until its qualifications have been met. Particularly high-value artifacts may instead be designed to wipe themselves upon such failures, leaving them as little more than artistic paperweights.

CONTENT INFORMATION
This may vary greatly depending on the nature of the artifact. Those utilized for personal reasons may include an individual's history, their record of service and conflict, any memorable encounters that they had throughout their lives, and other aspects of autobiography. Artifacts may also be utilized to pass along messages with a greater amount of context to a situation, including any emotional attachment that a person may ascribe to the message. It is not uncommon for such artifacts to hold entire conversations possibly spanning several years of continued back-and-forth interaction.

More organizationally focused artifacts may contain technical knowledge on any type of common Bryn'adul armament and its proper use, knowledge of their creed and brief philosophical discussions on how best to exemplify oneself in pursuit of it, and discussions on strategic and tactical knowledge. It is through these easily accessible programs that the Bryn'adul are able to continuously churn out able warriors who are fully informed of the capabilities and capacity of both their weapons and their war beasts.

Particularly arcane knowledge such as the use of force techniques may also be ascribed into these artifacts, but they are unlikely to be kept in public locations along with others. These artifacts would typically be held within exclusive Seer-only rooms or structures in order to prevent non-Force sensitives from unnecessary use of them. Highly classified items would also be transferred with greater security, and may not be visible to each and every member of the Draelvasier race.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Initially few in number, the creation of these devices has increased substantially in recent times due to the increasingly high rate of casualties -- as expected for a race which devotes themselves to so much conflict -- and the subsequent necessity of in-depth information across multiple star systems. Eventually, the creation of these devices reached a point where it was possible for individual members of the race to requisition them for personal use. Since then, they have been utilized in a variety of ways including the transmission of highly classified strategic information, the passing of knowledge from veterans to their youthful compatriots, and even the glorification of an individual's exploits in support of the Bryn'adul.

The Seers continue to churn out great quantities of these devices, allowing for internal affairs to be conducted with efficacy and speed, and allowing the Draelvasier to more adequately reinforce their civilization against the tide of technological inferiority often utilized by the "civilized" races of the galaxy.

Hello! I'll be doing the primary review of this sub. Since I'm a trainee codex judge, this will require a secondary approval.

This is very well written and I love the concept for this artifact. I see no problems with this and I only have one small request before passing this on for secondary review.
  • Please add the Draelvasier to the Links field, since it is relevant to the sub and being a custom species readers might not recognize them.

Thank you for your review, and for your compliments. I've gone ahead and complied with your request (I thought I'd already put it in there, but apparently I totally forgot. Whoops.)

I hope that the submission is now suitable. :)
