Space Borne

Spongy Hide: To absorb ambient energy in space and convert it to food, the Dov's hide is very squishy retaining moisture such as poisons or pollution/chemicals. It can fill slightly with gas allowing it to expand and float up into the atmosphere. The gas produces is highly combustible to sparks or heat.
Hollow Bones: To fly around from a planet and into space the Dov has easily breakable bones.

Estimated Population: 6 million estimated
Diet: Ambient energy, meats, nuts and fruits. They are deathly allergic to chocolate and Tova fish
Communication: Squawks
Culture:
Regarded within the culture of the Asobi system as a master hunter and bird of prey. They are prized by trainers who can get them when they are young enough to be taught. They were hunted out of fear in older times for their size and the belief that they could snatch children away from the villages. Now they are semi protected or at least controlled populations with over hunting them illegal and punishable to allow the species to repopulate itself after their homes have been destroyed in the name of progress.
Technology level: Does not use technology
General behavior:
The Dov are usually seen traveling between the asteroids of the Kazehana asteroid field. They float from asteroid to asteroid looking for the mining stations or the passing ships. Searching for the cables and ones inside. They are birds of prey and go after the things smaller then them. When near planets they will wrap themselves into a cocoon of their wings and tail to protect their body from reentry heat that might ignite the gas sacks in their body.

On a planet they are very territorial flying over areas and if they encounter each other they will attack using their beaks and claws to tear into each other and fight. The females of the species more protective of their nests with eggs. The males often trying to kill the young for easy food. With larger predators they are able to swarm and attack in packs if they believe they can beat it. Colossus Wasps being one of the largest predators in the asteroid belt.

When swarming with others and attacking they use wolf pack like tactics buzzing the target from different angles until it is tired and distracted while focusing at the weaker points or open wounds to make them larger. The same swarming against larger predators can be applied to smaller to medium sized one on different planets. Against ships they go after the connections of communications and arrays.

On worlds near cities and villages they are careful usually larger and targeted for their meat to feed the families in ancient times. They don't often venture close enough to be seen but can be found in the deeper forests usually at nests of their own making or creatures they have eaten.
History:
Once a more common site in the space between the worlds and souring through the asteroid fields. The Dov were hunted down to near extinction by hunters and fear from the locals. Now slowly they have become a semi protected species to repopulate them. Not being feared as much anymore. The Dov have flown across the system spreading their shadow over the different worlds and moons but influencing some of the people. Hunters use babies to teach them to retrieve prey. More powerful then hunting dogs and more loyal with the right training.

The Silent Sisters of Shri-Tal and the Paper Mages of Cazador, two different orders that serve the same purpose but go about protecting their worlds in different ways. The Paper Mages developing combat styles based on their swarming and skills. The SIlent Sisters using them as pets and weapons to attack as their ancestors did with the Taung and their strills. There is an exotic market for them being sold around the galaxy through the invisible market hub on Shri-Tals moon that has made them more valuable for hunter guilds with their ability to be loyal or carry sensors.
Notable Player-Characters: None
Intent: To create a space based predator in the Asobi system that can fly around.
